Sun Princess Buffet

Recommended Posts

Im just not a germaphobe and was always quite happy eating at the buffet. Its nice to browse whats on offer without thinking Im holding the line up, pick as big or as small as I like without having to say "more please, less please" all the time.....plus, the most important thing....I get to put items on my plate where I want them.
Servers dont want to listen to my meal time OCD....but I like my plate arranged the way I like it.

Its why I always used the buffet and not the MDR.

Now all the germaphobes have taken over and ruined it

I can just picture the Zoom call with the decisionmakers trying to come to final resolution as to who should win the war: the germaphobes or the OCDs.

OCD won’t kill you but germs can make you sick enough to wish you died.

The average buffet is perfectly safe for everyone.

Now what we have happening now is people are becoming petrified of all normal human germs and are doing everything in their power to stop contracting any whatsoever.
Sanitising everything all the time is only harming you.......so that when you DO ingest a germ you will get much sicker, much quicker than someone like me who doesnt do all those things because my body is used to it.

It staggers me that most people just cannot grasp this concept. The more germs you take on, the LESS sick youll become.

Noro? It happens often on ships and I’m sure they are trying to counteract that especially with these first few cruises.

That would be a PR Nightmare.

I love the buffet and have no fear of sucking in another's germs (germs are all over the place so you might as well deal with it). However, I don't mind being served, etc. - as long as the food is good.

Im not one that minds either but i am hearing from you tube reactions that the Sun might not have the process well manned and it is causing lines and backups. Even going back to just get an extra condiment means standing in the line again.

I loved the buffet on Sky, it was so easy, no lines ever.

Noro generally spreads among elderly people very quickly due to several reasons.
They have weaker immune systems due to age primarily.

The majority of people with a normal healthy immune system will not be floored by Noro....they will, however, if they are super sanitised and have weakened themselves that way.

Buffets dont cause Norovirus

It's beginning to sound like there are to many experts on this thread. I don't care about Noro, Covid or anything else.

Simple question; Are they serving food at the buffet or is it self serve?

I spent a month on the CB and the people I knew who got Noro were in their 40’s and it wasn’t pretty.

to mitigate the spread Princess had staff serve in the Buffet.

There could be something to what people are saying about buffets being less popular after Covid because, just one example, most Las Vegas casinos have removed or are removing their buffets and they are not coming back which is a shame in away.

Crew served buffet versus self serve takes too much extra valuable minutes from the total vacation time.  My cruise mantra is “On a cruise every minute counts.”

I like to walk through the buffet first to see what is being offered then jump in line if there is one. Now it sounds like I have to get in line and guess what is being offered or second guess my choices.

I always walk through to see what is being offered and then go back to the back of any line and take my turn. It stinks to just be in a line and get something and then later on in the line discover something else that you want much more but don't get it because you don't want a plate full of food that you won't eat.

On the Sun, isn't the buffet a series of stations with Italian, Mexican, etc. at each station , not all pushed together as on the other ships?  You can still walk down the line of stations and see what is offered and then get in line at your station of choice.

Ever since the introduction of the Royal class ships it's been that way. I can't see them changing back to the old style of a single line serving. The open serving stations have been proven to be the best way.

I would rather have ready plated food or served to us by staff than wondering if the person before me washed their hands before handling service utensils. 😉

I know.....there are numbskulls who do not know how to conduct themselves in the buffet. Even handling the serving ware after one of these lovely people picked something from between their teeth makes buffets unappetizing. 🤢

Buffets don't cause norovirus but buffets spread norovirus.

Norovirus 2024: Highly Contagious Stomach Bug Is Spiking In US (today.com)

An entire school closed down because of Norovirus. Elderly people and people with compromised immune systems are more likely to die because of norovirus but it affects all the same (I believe there was someone from Cruise Critic a couple years ago who's partner died of Norovirus a couple weeks into their bucket list world cruise). 24-48 hrs of making the bathroom your living area.
