The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday October 2nd, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!   I believe in Guardian Angels, wish for more than a single day of non-violence, and have never named a car.  I've called a car names, but that's different.  The quote definitely made me nod my head in agreement.

Wow, it's dark out there this morning - the sun is definitely getting lazy, not getting up nearly as early as a couple of months ago.  And in the evening it's starting to get dark around 6:30.  Maybe it really is October.  Oh, and we had rain overnight - don't know where that came from, as it wasn't in any of the forecasts I saw. According to one of my weather apps it's still raining (no, it isn't), and the rain should stop in 9 minutes.  LOL  I did just hear on the radio that we're supposed to go down to -1 tonight, and again tomorrow, so that's likely the official end of summer.  Hopefully we'll have a lengthy autumn to enjoy!

This morning we're off to the cardiac rehab program, will stop for coffee on the way home and then after lunch DH has his coffee meeting with his band mates.  Later in the afternoon we're heading out of town about an hour's drive for their fall supper.  We used to go to a few every year, but haven't over the past number of years due to Covid, etc., but it will be nice to get to a couple again this season.

I likely wouldn't order the drink (the name is a definite turn-off for me), would like the wine, and I'm liking the menu suggestion for a dip with fruit or even toasted frozen waffles.  I won't be cooking tonight, but will be enjoying a turkey dinner with all the trimmings in a small town hall just like in the old days.  And wine when we get home.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those whose lives have been so drastically impacted by Helene.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Good morning. Yesterday I eventually got new military ID cards. Service was actually quite good despite many members of Denmarks military needing ID’s. They must be here TDY for training.
We both received our Flu and Covid boosters a couple of days ago. Both of us were fine other then soreness where injected.

Managed to get quite a few chores done yesterday but needed a nap as jet lag is better but still getting adapted to Central time.

We watched most of the debate but finally succumbed to slumber time.

In need of another cup of coffee then will figure out what to do with the rest of my day. It’s acorn season so cleaning off the driveway will be one.

Thanks for all your faithful contributions to the Daily. Bruce

Rosh Hashanah begins this evening, but the associated dip (for apples) is honey. My synagogue attendance tonight is up in the air because I have class until 7:00 (HIU closes for Rosh Hashanah but not the afternoon before).

I wouldn't want the drink even if it were called something else. For the wine, maybe the Glenora 2021 Syrah, $23.99. "Our Syrah shows elegant aromas of plum, brown baking spice, molasses and hints of chocolate covered orange. Bright red fruit flavors course across the palate with lively acidity that will give it a long life in bottle." It's from grapes grown at Chateau LaFayette Reneau on the other side of Seneca Lake.

I prefer the default font size but it doesn't matter that much to me.

Good morning from another sunny and breezy day in central Texas.  It is 65F with a 3mph breeze from the WNW.  The humidity is down to 74% with a dew point of 57F.   Our high today will be 90F which should be just about perfect.  I slept later this morning, probably because I knew I did not need to go anywhere early.  Not much on the agenda today except catching up on a few bills and doing a little more to get ready to head west later this month.  We'll have a better idea of the time frame after DH's follow up visit at UTSW next Wednesday.

Shana tovah u’metukah to all our Dailyites celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

I hope my guardian angel hasn't given up on me.  I wish everyday could be a day of non-violence.  There has been only one car in my life that had a name.  When I got my driver's license, I inherited my mother's 1956 Plymouth.  In high school my friends and I named it The Bomb.  It was built like a tank, and had limited power steering, but it had quite a few quirks.

The C. S. Lewis quote is one I love and is true.

We'll pass on the meal, and even if I could get past the name of the drink, I'd still pass.  Shiraz is the one red wine I do not like; so, it's also a pass.

We have not been to Portree or even the Isle of Skye.

A good day in US history when  George Washington sent the Bill of Rights to the states for ratification.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, DH will be glad you left the font sizes unchanged on the FR/D, since the larger font sizes make reading on a tablet easier.  Thank you for the pictures from today's port.  Thanks for updating the ship positions again.

@Mr. Boston  I'm sorry your DM did not get to see her brother yesterday.  It was good you could have lunch with his wife.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, I'm glad you are enjoying Japan, and I hope you make the next port.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope tonight you will be able to sleep well.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope today is a much better day.  ((((((HUGS))))))

Thanks Vanessa for adding me to the Celebrations list.  You are so kind!  I see you have a nice large font today, too.  I'm sure most of us will appreciate it.😉

I accept and understand your reply on yesterday comment I made on fonts.

Did not realize issues with tablets.

And I was just curious that is all.

After my father died in Florida, I was driving home, basically talking to God, and I said, I am all alone, and I felt arms surrounding my shoulders, and holding me.  Wings of an angel.  It didnt freak me out, no car wreck, I felt real comfort, and it took my sadness away.  It gave me the strength to carry on.  I had to make some major changes in my life that were hard to do, and I remembered that moment to get me through.

These days I feel more like this-

Good morning! Good collections of days, the drink is a riot, love pumpkin pie and bread but will pass on this dip. I’ve never named a car but my dad named our Dodge  van “Frank” and my parents  would talk to Frank as we’re going up a hill, “come on Frank”, lol. I guess back then (60’s) cars just didn’t have the horsepower like we do today. We went to Portree last summer on Zuiderdam, we just walked around a bit hoping to find a place for lunch without luck. A couple we met at the Gallery Bar visited the Waterford Crystal factory and said it was fascinating and they really enjoyed it. Thank your for the pics @StLouisCruisers, I kinda forgot the port and didn’t take any pics of the town.

Lots going on today over here. We have our granddaughter for a bit and we’ll take her to school, the pool plastering company is back to polish our pool and clean the tile. We had it replastered in February and were not happy with the job, bumpy and shadowed, then we had calcium buildup that attached itself to the walls and tile, what a mess. They were the ones who plastered it 20 years ago and did an excellent job. Fingers crossed with this “fix”. Also meeting with the owner of our gardening service to look at some plants that died since their planting in May. Hoping the dead tree might be warranted, either way it needs replacing.

Thinking of all on the care list, hoping those currently causing are having a great time. Enjoy the day!

Good morning and Happy Wednesday. It’s supposed to be cooler today, like I said in my post from last night, about 98ish. We will see. It was so hot yesterday when I ran errands.  One thing I forgot to mention was that I dropped my smallest cutting board on my foot, it just slipped out of my fingers. Thank goodness it’s okay, just very bruised.

When we purchased our new car we decided to name both of our cars because they are the same make and model, just so we could tell them apart when talking about them. But we couldn’t think of any good names and decided to call them by their year, so we have “99” and “23”. We’ve never named any other vehicles.

I am passing on the food, drink and wine today. I’m enjoying the pictures of the port.

Sandi @StLouisCruisers, I like the format of the Daily and Fleet Report and really appreciate everything that you do to make it happen every day and for subbing for Rich so he can enjoy his cruise. I’m not in the habit of changing the font size but will try since I know it’s easier to read. I read on my iPad or phone but only post on my phone. Thank you again!

Maxine @AncientWanderer, oh my goodness!  I’m so sorry for your injury and am glad you are doing better. It’s so good to hear from you.

Have a great day everyone!

We're on day 2 of our 3-day stay in Ft Myers (the only full day). It's sunny & HOT, with rain expected later. Typical Florida! The local news is full of Helene impact stories, which is sad. Some people lost everything for the second time, first being Ian 2 years ago.

Those are 3 good days, although we need non-violence EVERY day, and I've never named a car other than referring to them as "my car" and "your car". I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine but would be happy to visit the port. The quote is so true - good one! Once a connection can be made, friendship can flow easily between former strangers.

Took care of a medical procedure this morning, checked on our home, then went to breakfast. The anesthesia dried out my mouth something terrible, so eating breakfast was a challenge. I had to chew and chew and chew, then add water to wash it down. I don't remember that from past surgeries! Now we're relaxing at the hotel until we decide to venture out around dinner time - if not, we have leftover pizza from last night. It's been a good trip - everything has gone well thus far. Just 2 more dental appointments in the morning before heading home to Gainesville.

Good morning all!

We have a sunny day, up to the high 50's.  Fall is here!  The only thing on the agenda today is an eye appointment this afternoon.  DH will be taking me, as I'm blind when my eyes are dilated -- especially on a sunny day.

All good days, and I love and agree with the quote.  Will pass on everything, drink, red wine and pumpkin flavored snack.  The only car I've ever named is the one I have now and her name is "Baby".

We enjoyed our stay at the Yellowstone B&B so much that we booked another 4 nights in May.  Spring is really our favorite time to go, and we can't do that in '26 because of our other love (cruising!)

Prayers for all on the Care List and a big cheer for all who are celebrating!

We visited Portree on the VOV in 2018.  We took a tour to the 13th century Eilean Donan Castle. We weren't allowed to take photos inside, but really the exterior was much more interesting anyway.

I am laughing at the name of the drink.  You could probably abbreviate it to just Smelly Nelly.  It might be fun to order sometime.

When I was a teenager and just started driving, I was allowed to drive The Old White Ghost. It was a 1963 Plymouth Belvedere station wagon and the first car that Dad ever bought brand new.  I drove it to school proudly each day.   It amazed everyone that it still ran.  When Dad tried to trade it in, they wanted to charge him to take it.  He sold it for $50 and we got a new used car, a Pontiac Bonneville, nicknamed The Bonny.  Then he came home with a small Toyota that we called The Toy.  I haven't named a car since then.

I'm enjoying the cooler weather.  It is a little chilly in the house, but that's ok.  I love sweatshirt weather.

@rafinmd I hope you are settled into rehab and doing well.

@JazzyV Hoping that you are having a blast on your cruise!

@kazu Since I have taken over sleepless nights, you should be able to get some rest.

@Nickelpenny Hurry back!

Good afternoon from central Texas where it is sunny, but hazy.  It is 86F with no breeze at the moment.  I had a chance to be a messy painter today since there was a work group painting the metal barrier between the upper and lower portions of our street down toward the end.  However, I decided to let the men have all the fun.  Instead, DH and I got a couple of needed but not fun chores out of the way.  DH checked the water levels in the motorhome batteries, and fortunately, they were all right.  We also aired the tires.  After that, I got a couple more things done, but the rest needs to wait a bit longer.  I also changed the battery in the smoke detector.

Sue, I'm glad the medical procedure went well.  I hope your home was in good shape.  Good luck with the dental appointments and safe travels tomorrow.

The latest update from Roy just came in on my computer.  It is the best news yet, and I hope his recovery continues with no further glitches.

I was moved to rehab right after dinner last night, settling in by 7:30.

Sadly I didn’t sleep at all well.

A very busy schedule today with rehab solidly from 8 to 11:30 and another half hour at 2:30.

A lot of what was done was repeat paperwork but I did get to the gym in PT, walked just a bit with a cane but had time for a longer walk with the walker from the far end of the gym,  around the nursing station in the rooms and taking a break at the passage between the two wings and returning to my wheelchair.

I did the same walk with the rollator non-stop.

My afternoon PT will be with stairs.

Speech therapy included some work on breathing.

OT was a bit of a disappointment as my blood pressure was low but came up when I took a short walk.

Recreational therapist wants to try some strategies for sleeping.

I can relax now.  I didn't say anything earlier until I knew the outcome, but our older DD had on of her parathyroids removed this morning.  We just had a text from DSIL that the surgery was over, and it went smoothly and was successful.  She is in recovery and should be in her room in about an hour.  There is a mandatory overnight stay with this surgery.  Fortunately, with this surgery, the recovery does not take long.  They will be here on the 12th for an overnight stay.

I'm glad to hear all went well and know we mothers do worry. 🙂

My BFF had this surgery as did a relative and they did well too.  Also Debbie @dfish (?)

Glad to hear that DD came through with flying colors!  The first day you're tired and after that I was back to normal.  They removed two of mine, but did not require an overnight stay!  Tell DSIL to buy her favorite ice cream.  It is smooth going down the throat.

Thanks for the update on Roy.  It sounds like things are moving in the right direction for him.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I think I will skip the daily drink................too many flavors in one drink!

We have been really adventurous on naming vehicles "Red" truck and "Brown" truck!  We refer to Dave's old PT cruiser as the Cruiser.  Though I have started referring to my Rav4 as "Ravy"

We are having some beautiful fall weather, trying to get my outside fall prep chores done.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good Afternoon from a warm and cloudy day at the beach

Weather is pretty typical for this time of year. It is hot humid and then the storms come in.  I was scheduled to golf this afternoon but the course is closed because it is too wet. crazy stuff.

I sometimes think I do have a guardian Angel. There is no need for violence of any kind.

The only car we ever named was a chevy station wagon in the 80's. We called it "Blinkie" because every time you stepped on the brake. all the lights would blink on and off. Cant tell you how many times I was pulled over.  No one could fix it!

Did water aerobics this morning. Then went and got my 2nd shingle shot. The first one knocked me for a loop so hoping this one will be ok.I dont usually get reactions to anyting.

   Stay safe and enjoy today

@rafinmd, It really does sound like a lot of progress.

On naming cars: I've never named one, but when I first owned a Toyota, in the 1970s, I kept a volume of Japanese poetry in the glove compartment.
