Live from Allure of the Seas - August 25, 2013

Thanks Marc for doing this live from the Allure! We will be back on her in April. We will be doing Samba Grill. Let me know how your dinner goes there. If you can...post pictures of the dessert there. If I remember, they have some type of trio that was fabulous!

I didn't know where your hometown was, so I looked it up. We do alot of shopping at Robinson Mall...was just there Saturday...then down to Meadows! I would assume you visit Meadows too? We are about an hour north of the airport.

Enjoy your cruise, as we will be enjoying all of your live reports!

Howdy, neighbor! I probably won't have my camera with me at dinner, I'm afraid, so I don't think I'll have a picture of dessert. Sorry!

Yup, I go to the Meadows. I used to get a lot of free play there, but they've greatly reduced it, so I don't think I'll be heading back too much after I get back.

Good morning from Allure of the Seas!

I ordered the "Surf & Turf" (whole Maine lobster and 10 oz. filet mignon). The price was up a bit since I last looked. It's now $37.50 (plus 15% gratuity, of course).

Thank you ... I had been wondering about this! The MDR options on some nights just don't excite me. I love lobster ... Don't know if I can get just the 'surf', but this sounds delicious!!

I had breakfast at Johnny Rockets this morning. I had a ham and cheese omelette with home-fried potatoes. The omelette was good, but the potatoes were over-fried and a bit greasy.

The Meet & Mingle was pretty well attended given its early hour on the first sea day.

Lunch was tapas at Vintages. We were thrilled to see Michelle whom we knew from a previous sailing on Allure two years ago. We'll be back to visit her this evening.

Then we did a slot tournament. Only about 30 people entered today. They need 85 or so to give away a cruise. Maybe there'll be more on the next two sea days. We didn't do very well. Maybe we'll try again next time.

That leads us to now. We just got back from the Thermalsuite in the spa. It was... okay, I guess. I'm used to single-gender steam rooms/saunas on the other ships and this one being co-ed made me feel on guard a bit.

Soon we'll be getting ready for dinner at Samba Grill. I'm looking forward to it!

Yes, you can. It's $29.95 for lobster by itself. The Chops filet mignon by itself is $14.95.

So far so good for the live thread.

Ginny let us AZ Cruisers know about this. We will be on Oasis with the others from Arizona in May 2015 aft cabins on deck 11. I got ocean view because I want to see the ocean not all the other people. We can go to the big secret balcony on deck 11.

Thanks again for this live thread.

I see that someone else already commented on Hampton Inn's shuttle. I'll add that we got a rental car so that we could drive ourselves around during the day on Saturday. We got in about 11:00 AM and wanted to be able to go do things (like watch Oasis set sail), have lunch and dinner, and stop by someplace to pick up some wine to bring onboard. Having a car makes all of that much more convenient. Plus, with a one-way rental, it's pretty easy.

I'll see what I can do. I'll note that the cabana they gave us is "wheelchair accessible", so it might be somehow special. It is considered an over-the-water cabana, so I'm assuming it's relatively similar, but there may be some differences. We'll see tomorrow!

I wondered whether it was going to be upside down. It's right-side up on my iPad, but when I saw the thumbnail in my gallery, it was upside down. Oh, well!

I just went into the gallery's photo editor and had it rotate the picture. Maybe that fixed it.

I read this thread on my imac and the picture came upside down. My husband read it on his ipad mini and it was rightside up lol you're not going crazy, the ipads are!

If you're a slots player, you need to accumulate 2,000 points in order to be invited to Club Royale. I don't know the play requirements for table players.

Two thousand points is how many dollars? thanks for you live update I am enjoying it

You mentioned Michelle from Vintages... I think I remember her from our cruise on Allure last September, does her father work in Vintages as well? We board in 20-some days and would enjoy seeing her again!

It depends on if you are winning or losing! If you are winning, you will be using "their" money to accumulate points. If you are losing, you will be using "your" money for the points! I know it is ALOT of play.

You get one point for every $5 wagered. So, if you're playing $1/spin, then five spins will get you a point. As was mentioned, if you win, you can earn a lot of points using the won money.

I did hit a jackpot yesterday which was quite nice, and they were reasonably prompt in paying me this time, so that was good.

Yup... that's her, although her father was working down in the Champagne & Martini Bar. She told us that Gemma would be returning on September 8, for those that know them as a pair.

Enjoy your cruise Marc. Sorry to hear your slot tournament wasn't a winner. BTW (and thanks in large part to your organization on Indy) ours on Grandeur was a winner for us!

Anxious to hear about Samba and the rest of your cruise.

Welcome to Labadee, everyone!

We're just finishing up here in the cabin before going ashore.

Last night's dinner at Samba Grill was quite good and oh, so stuffing! We waddled out of there after we were done and headed to Vintages for a bit and enjoyed some wine (especially thanks to the BOGO coupon :)).

We stopped by the casino briefly and I did ask about their rules for cameras in the casino. It's okay to take still pictures, but they don't allow video recording. That's good to know. I like to take pictures of machines when I hit them big (which hasn't happened much, but it could!).

We hung out in the Champagne & Martini Bar and made some new friends who were there for the Friends of Dorothy gathering. I'm sure we'll see more of them during the rest of the week.

I've got some good pictures for the photo scavenger hunt. The next time I upload my pictures, I'll share some of the puzzlers with y'all. I'm planning on taking a bunch more tomorrow while we're in Jamaica as I'll be on the ship while most others are off doing their excursions and stuff.

Okay... it's time to head off to the cabana! See you all soon!

I think you're confusing the "tournament" with the slot "pull" that Tom put together. The slot tournament is run by the casino host.

I'm glad that yours was a winner!
