Celebrity Cruises to Modernize All Cabins and Suites Across Fleet and Add New Sundeck

The best news for me in all of this is that Celebrity apparently is planning to retain the "M" Class ships rather than sell them off as the Edge class ships are introduced. We just like the size and feel of the "M" class. Hopefully this means Celebrity may be adding West coast itineraries as well.

I also believe that Celebrity can find plenty of unused space, as mentioned above, where they can add to the suite experience without detracting from the rest of the clientele. There used to be waterparks and slides on the Summit, and those were removed without a great deal of fuss.

And what about the empty space below the TV on the rendition - why isn't there storage drawers/counter space underneath the TV?....

that one is easy to answer...there is nothing below the tv because what they don't show you in that rendition is the bed that will be taking up most of the space up to that wall...(there will be a small gap...1 1/2 feet?? between the bed and the wall the tv is mounted to.

Add to the N & D list

Offers nothing at ports for customers to make their own way.

( It was one of the outstanding omissions for us, other lines have given maps, advice and pointed out worthwhile places to visit for guests making their own way in port)

Yeah, this I forgot...

Holland America gives you a small brochure with all ports you're going to call.

This little catalog includes port maps, most important things to do, and individual excursion tips.

Priness Cruises offers a port information sheet and map in the daily program.

Celebrity Crusies? Nothing like that...

We've been cruising with Celebrity since 1997 on all of the ships. I never remember a waterpark or slide on Summit, or any Celebrity ships.

You have me by 6 years.....I started cruising with them in 2003 and have been on all their ships too......not sure

if the person is possibly thinking of another cruise line but I agree with you....I don't remember parks/slides on any of the ships.

There was never a water park on Summit or any other Celebrity ship. Unless you are referring to the little kiddie pool that they eliminated. Hardly a water park.

The storage in all the cabins below the suite level is already substandard. Now it appears there will be less storage. I agree, the designers should live in this arrangement for 2 weeks and see how they like it. I guess we shall all be cruising with carry on from now on because there won't be room to store anything else!

Based on the Celebrity link posted above on #14, that looks like way less storage (looks like one maybe 6 ft closet - and the life jackets and safe go where?), useless open shelves and (are you kidding!) glass doors on the closet!?! Love to see the pile of shattered glass and clothes on the floor with the next storm! I agree with others...these people need to take a 14 day cruise. Get real...

Oh oh, dislike! (n)

When a new suite retreat sundeck is due to be rolled out on all ships, that means for sure that some of the public deck space will be removed... :(

I am sure the front sundecks will be transformed into that particular suite-only-deck, and let's see, maybe they also take the observation lounges in the front of the ship from the public passengers, and turn it into a suite lounge...

After the new extra-cost burger bar, and the charging for sushi, this is the next step into nickle and diming.

The standard "mother" cruise line RCI provides more value for money so...

Sounds like you have a dreaded case of Suite Envy. I think you can be cured by leaving Celebrity and sailing on Holland America since you love it so much. I am happy that Celebrity is upgrading ALL cabins - this is not just about suites.

While I understand that some people have "suite envy", people who do travel in suites pay twice as much, if not more then that for the suite. Celebrity has to compete with Royal, NCL and other cruise lines who offer those guests more options. I believe that the new Edge, will offer more perks for suite guest in an attempt to compete with other lines.

Michael's lounge is nice as is lumanie, but that really isn't enough.

It will be interesting to see how they manage the new suite sundeck setup. I hope they don't take away all the forward upper deck space for this, as the Solstice deck has some of the best outside seating. While I understand suite guests pay more, they shouldn't penalize the rest of us by taking away all of the prime outside areas on the forward upper decks. I would like to see them better utilize the Lawn Club areas of the S-class ships and maybe turn them into more useable space.

Looking at the links, I suspect that it will be the Solstice deck that’s converted for suites only access. I dread to think how this will pan out on Reflection on peak sailings where the sundecks are already overcrowded.

It wasn't a water park. It was the kids' club area on the back of the M class ships.

Hi Linda, thanks for thee clarification. I had never even seen anything like those photos before.

I understand that all staterooms are about to get a major upgrade, and that's okay.

But it's also obvious that public space is going to be removed for suite members. And I do not like such a class system, if it is so clearlyy obvious - it has nothing to do with envy.

Other cruise lines also offer extra suite benefits, like Princess or Holland America - but as a regular passenger you do not fesl excluded so much, since you are able to access almost all areas, including all sundeck areas (except for the extra cost Cabanas, what I accept).

Even NCL is more fair with it's Haven complex, IMHO. On the enwer ships, you can access the full bow-facing sundeck on the starboard side, on NCL Jewel-Class there's an "extra complex" midships, but the common deck spaces are also open for everyone - including the huge Spinnaker Lounge.

And you can be cured by moving to Seabourn or Regent. Public spaces should be kept public.

I was too generous with my closet dimension - looks more like a 3 foot wide closet and not even all the way to the ceiling. I noticed the designer placed towels on the shelves, perhaps suggesting they've taken away storage in the bathroom as well! I'm half kidding, but think how stupid it will look with all clothes on display. And fingerprints will have to be removed from the glass doors daily. Our room stewards already work very hard. Why give them another tedious task. Also don't want someone opening my closet. I suggest a contest for real cruisers to design the ultimate cabin space. Maybe a cruise or two as the prize. Then you'd really get innovation. I'm up to the challange.

Hi Arno - HAL did finally listen after years of being behind the times and ban smoking from their balconies. They still do allow smoking in most of their casinos. Some day they'll understand that 80% of their guests also have money to spend if they're not gagging in the process.

So what do you think which deck it might be?

On the Millennium-Class ships I could imagine the deck above the AQ staterooms, were the Rooftop Terrace has been installed recently.

I think that one could be easil converted into a suite-only-deck.

But since the Rooftop Terrace is a relatively new venue and I would find it to be strange if they get rid of it after a short time, I imaginethe forward facing sun decks are likely to become the new suite-only-deck.

And still I do not have any different idea for the Solstice Class ships other than the Solstice deck at the very top of the ship...

@Arno: Yes, HAL banned smoking on the baconies in January 2017, as far as I imagine. You can still smoke in the Casino, or one dedicated outside area.
