Regal Princess- not happy so far...

As has been pointed out by others...you're punishing the wrong people. The crew that shares in the tip pool includes: cook, kitchen personnel, Maitre D', all the waiters in all the food venues (the lady behind the ice cream counter, the coffee bar, international café,the laundry room, the deck swabbers and many more. Please don't punish everyone for an insult and pore treatment from people who aren't in the tip pool.

And as has been pointed out, handing tips to 2 people with your tips at zero puts your $$ in the tip pool anyway.

 

Yeah, the cab driver was rude to me so I stiffed the waiter at the restaurant he drove me to.

regarding outdoor fun you gotta do the NCL breakaway. it's superior for all outdoor activities vs regal. now if you have a rainy day, you are screwed. theres no place to sit inside the breakaway. the atrium holds about 20 people comfortably and is a total joke. where else can you go? there's nowhere. literally. buffet perhaps

 

i researched regal and was very happy last year on my canada cruise. i choose it FOR the indoor seating as i prepare for bad weather. i liked princess live and just generally having lotta indoor seating. i found the regal a much happier place when it rained vs the breakaway. also while i didnt get the headcount. the ship felt empty all the time. i literally wondered where the people were except during the drill.

 

on the contrary. the BA was totally mobbed at all places at all times. the narrow walkways etc were not fun to navigate at peak times. for such a big ship i felt closed in

 

the regal has a fantastic atrium/ int'l cafe and tons of indoor seating around the piazza. i wish she sailed more out of NYC. how can we change that?

Saying no was fine. I said no thanks and left, main issue was the combination of the whole experience- meant to be a surprise, a $320 surprise, and something special for our first day. Missus doesn’t travel too well so I wanted to start our trip off with something nice. Instead it was an expensive awkward and rude time. Plus as I mentioned, they implied she was overweight. Basically did up a program, and suggested hit the gym....

You say your wife doesn't travel well, so why book this type of trip? I agree the comments by the spa personnel were wrong. Removing tips for everyone because the spa was insulting to you is wrong. The fact you didn't research the trip and ship enough to know what to expec I feel you set yourself to fail.

So now your waiter & "Room-Lady"(seriously?! Room-Lady?)have to turn in those tips to the pool as you now cheated them out of hard earned wages. Concession staff(spas/jewelry stores/art auctions are NOT employees of Princess. Seriously, next time just please STAY home:mad: Room-Lady is all the info. most of us need.

depends on the attitude of the person. We prefer room attendant and often will ask if can pick he/she up anything while we're ashore.

Obviously ships have become hotels to some people. They’re calling decks floors, cabins, rooms, and stewards, room attendants.

I cruise for the enjoyment of being on a ship, myself.

Whatever cruise lines have water slides, rock climbing, bumper cars, bowling alleys, ice skating rinks, sky rides, zip lines...I RUN the other way...Princess for me

 

We only cruise Princess, but it's interesting to dock next to one of those ships, just to watch the little cars going around their overhead track, folks doing rock or rope climbing, etc.

I haven't followed all of this...To the original poster: It sounds like you have traveled and enjoyed cruising, but I am not sure about your new fianc'e.

It seems you want to impart this enjoyment on to her, and hope to enjoy some cruises or travel together going forward.

You must have had some pretty great intentions and high expectations!!!

I do hope that the two of you have settled in, and are enjoying your cruise!

I would def. want to report the negative experience, file a complaint. (wouldn't expect a response!!!)

But, def. move forward and focus on enjoying the great parts of this cruise together!!!!

It sounds like a disappointing start to what should have been an amazing vacation, but I hope that this did not ruin the entire trip for you. I hope you were able to enjoy some more lively entertainment at the bars, casino, or shows, or at the pool?

I hope the stops were enjoyable and that you enjoyed your meals. I really like the Royal class ship, but agree that as a whole Princess is not a party ship.

To the original poster I would say: research. The Baltic is far north and can be cool even in the Summer. It is not really for outdoor activity much of the time.

People tend to travel there on that short of a cruise because of the amazing ports and history. The spa is an independent operation; Princess rents them the space...I never go near it because of the outrageous prices. At home in the US I get a massage every couple of weeks by a professional for 1/3 the price...moreover it is part of their job to sell you more. You may have been much happier on a Caribbean Cruise on a Cardinal ship. Mike

Haven’t received anything back from my complaint, so I just took all the gratuities down to $0. Tip my waiter and room lady personally instead. Yeah rest of cruise is good.

 

Your cabin steward and waiter will have to hand it in anyway as you removed gratuities, them's the rules on Princess. So really, they got nothing.:rolleyes:

“stewart “ started when a cruising newbie posted about his experience and mentioned “Stewart” cleaning his room. It was probably at least 10 years ago. People picked it up poking fun at him. Or her, but I doubt it.

Back when cruising was more posh, stateroom was used more frequently, mainly because it has a more elegant ring to it.

Cabin goes back to sailing ships and describes our small quarters better.

There are many environmental groups "screaming" for a total ban on balloons :). I wonder how many complaints cruise line's have received from environmental wacko's about using balloons.

Agree, there were lots of helpful advice but OP is set on getting what he expected vs. what is offered. Doing research to set expectations in anything is very helpful to avoid disappointments; nothing is perfect for everyone.

Even though spa is run using a contractor, it is sold through Princess, it is paid to Princess, it is marketed with Princess brand, employees have Princess name tags, so the fact it’s run through a subcontractor does not let Princess off the hook. Your argument could be made for the stewards as well as they are actually employees of a contractor. Again this does not let Princess off the hook for bad form from the contractee.
