We fall into the "the cabin is for sleeping, showering, and changing" category so we pretty much always book interiors. When we have a balcony we never use it and my wife actually likes how dark and cold interiors get for sleeping and the occasional quick afternoon nap. Given all that, we'd rather use the savings elsewhere (like more cruises). We like to be around deck 9 or 10 so it's not too bad of a walk to just about any deck, up or down (I'm not bothered by much but I avoid crowded elevators whenever possible). If the window/seat and slightly extra room add anything, that's just a nice bonus. Enjoy your cruise!!

ZoeyVictoria Posted October 4, 2023 #8203 Share Posted October 4, 2023 I booked an interior guarantee at an excellent price for the November 2 sailing of the Independence, to create a B2B with the previously booked November 6 sailing. Last week I saw a muster station assignment, did the barcode trick, and saw an assignment to a connecting promenade cabin. I am not crazy about those cabins, and my SO is definitely not pleased. I bid on four Royal Up categories at that point. My documents became available yesterday, still showing GTY. Today I see that three of my bids are expired, and one is pending and unable to be modified or cancelled. If I remember correctly, this is an excellent indication of success, isn’t it?

Coincidentally, we had an interior GTY as part of an Indy B2B last year and the bar code trick said we were going to be on deck 3, somewhere we would prefer to avoid, so we bid on several categories to escape, just like you... and we wound up winning a promenade view for a very tiny bid. We got off deck 3 but learned we really weren't fans of promenade views, lol. It was only for 3 nights so no big deal.

The promenade would have been okay based on what we paid, but I would prefer to avoid it if possible. Ironically, the absolute noisiest snorer I have ever heard (who has cost me many hours of sleep because of the volume of his snoring) is afraid there will be noise from the parties on the promenade that will keep him from falling asleep 😂. I bid on four varieties of OVs, and it is the lowest category that is showing pending. Our preference is almost always OV over balcony because we never use a balcony enough to make it worthwhile, so we would be fine with any window in any location.

Same with us and the balcony (we've probably had this conversation before). We don't even care about the window, we like our caves, lol. That said, we recently put an an interior GTY on hold for a last minute Allure cruise in 3 weeks. While my wife was figuring out if she could go, I saw a bunch of connecting interiors and other interiors on low decks available and feared that's what we'd get... so we did a preemptive escape this time and switched it to a central park view while it was still on hold (it was hardly any more than the GTY and for some reason actually cheaper than either connecting or regular interiors). No idea if we'll even use the bench or look out the window much but we know we like the location and it's a bit bigger than a regular interior so we're happy with the decision.

My bid was actually on the very low side for the OS as were my bids on a GS and 2 bdrm GS which were really low. The fare on this one was and continued to be very high. OS was always pricing out at 18k. So my 5k all in was a very good deal !! Best of luck...you never know !! For reference, same sailing, I am in an OV balcony and got RU offers of JS 145pp minimum, GS 195pp, and 2 BR GS 245pp. There was also a spacious balcony option but I forgot the amount. I'm surprised they didn't give me higher minimums since I paid $1900 all in for a balcony. I did not win any bids (I bid just over minimum) but I saw several people on the fb group going from JS to higher suites. Then just yesterday someone went from spacious balcony to JS. I think your chance of getting a suite upgrade is better if you are already in a suite.
Rare Engineroom Snipe Posted October 4, 2023 #8210 Share Posted October 4, 2023 I have a spacious hump balcony exactly where I want to be for a 9 day cruise in November. I was offered to bid on a Junior Suite starting at $100 per person, a Grand Suite for $200 per person, and a 2 bedroom Panoramic suite for $150 per person. I do not need a two bedroom and I wanted a large balcony (about 120 square feet) so the I did not bid on it. I did not bid on the JS rooms because I liked my location and larger balcony more than any of the JS locations. I bid the minimum for the GS since I liked the locations and would enjoy the additional perks (but believe it or not, most of the GS balconies have less square footage than my hump balcony). I really like my original room. so an upgrade would be a surprise at such a low bid. Once you get into bed with your eyes closed, the size of the room does not matter. I have had some of my best cruise experiences (and sleep) in interior rooms. There are advantages to all of the cabins, just depends on your preferences. Always pick the minimum room that you would be satisfied with and never count on an upgrade to make your cruise enjoyable. 😁 1
sharktums Posted October 5, 2023 #8211 Share Posted October 5, 2023 Interesting seeing a lot of success on Indy, I wonder why it's so empty? We actually just got our RoyalUp accepted for Indy over Thanksgiving which I never expected and especially didn't expect this far before the cruise! Went from a very cheap interior guarantee to $55 a person promenade (which we like a lot) so I'll consider it a win!
SilentHill Posted October 6, 2023 #8212 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Royal keeps trolling me. Sailing on Sunday, waiting to hear on this GS RoyalUp bid I placed and I keep getting random Royal emails like crown and anchor newsletter, how much OBC we have, to confirm arrival time. Basically I get excited when I see it's a royal email, but it's never the one I want, lol. Side note: Historically, do they notify you if your offer was declined / not accepted? Or does it just disappear once the cruise is gone?

I believe the most recent version of this comes as an email very shortly (a day or two?) before departure offering you the chance to cancel your bid or, if you are ok with potentially winning affer you're already on board (e.g. in the case of a very late cancellation or no-show) to keep it active. Some people have reported being upgraded after they have boarded so, although rare, it can happen.

Ready2SailAway Posted December 31, 2023 #8217 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Just an FYI... We're booked in a JS and had submitted 4 RoyalUP bids for GS thru RS - all bids showed "SUBMITTED" when I checked daily until exactly 24hrs prior to our scheduled sailing departure time: Received 4 emails (one for each bid) advising that our bids were unsuccessful, and when I checked the RoyalUP webpage all bids showed "EXPIRED" - no surprise here, since none of that higher stateroom inventory ever became available after we booked our JS. MLAW Posted February 9 #8219 Share Posted February 9 I was booked in a JS on Adventure next week. Found out early this week that my minimum bid was accepted for the owners suite. I did not expect to get anything so super excited for our first suite experience.

moesyk4 Posted February 13 #8223 Share Posted February 13 I was hoping this would get bumped, I couldn’t find it! We got off the Oasis last week and found out a week before sailing we went from an interior guarantee to a Boardwalk balcony. I was thrilled since we bid on the lower end of mid range ($300 total for the upgrade) and the interior guarantee was a phenomenal deal to start. It was for a cabin of 4. We had bids in on our other room as well but canceled those after the first got accepted since we really just needed one upgrade.

Gtex Posted February 14 #8225 Share Posted February 14 I have never bid on an RC upgrade before. Hoping for an ocean balcony instead of a Boardwalk balcony in March. I am confused. When do they let you know your cabin number? Will we just find out when we get to the cruise terminal? What about our luggage tags? Will they send them a couple of days before the cruise?
