Performers in Eden - recycled idea?

I just watched a video on Facebook of the show put on in Eden.  The performers dress in funky costumes, looking sort of tribal, hang around near the stage area and interact with some of the passengers.  Does anyone besides me remember Celebrity’s collaboration wth Cirque de Soleil, and the Cirque-themed party nights in the Sky Lounges?  They had performers in funky costumes sort of hanging around, looking sort of odd and interacting with the passengers...   I guess everything old is new again.

Remember it well.

Perhaps the concept just never tired out?  I recall similar types of acts on various RCCL ships as well...from very tall stilt walkers to random trapeze acts seemingly falling from the sky.  I think part of the beauty of being on a cruise ship is that if one type of entertainment doesn't quite appeal, there's surely something else that pleases not too far away.  For years people have been asking celebrity to beef up its evening entertainment so as to possibly appeal to a wider age demographic.  In making the attempt to answer the call for refreshed entertainment, there are some who are bound to prefer the other way...No way to please everyone.

I’m probably not as objective as I ought to be.  Way back when, I went to a Cirque de Soleil show on Millennium.  When two of the performers made their way from the back of the theatre to the stage, they did it by climbing over the seats and the people sitting in them.  When they climbed over our row, I got clouted in the head by one of them.  I’ve had a dim view of anything to do with interactive performances ever since, because of that one clumsy performer, and now I’m biased against the Eden “tribe” because they remind me of Cirque performers.  :classic_tongue:

Oh yes..who can forget  some of these wierd things,,

I do remember them sitting in people's laps in the theater, taking people's handbags,, and also performing a mimed routine where the guy simulates beating on the woman and dragging her by the hair..,I was appalled and complained quite a bit..I was told it was a classic, very popular  sketch ,,,Yeesh.,would never  happen now with LLP..

At one point they  literally destroyed the upstairs club on Summit, built dirty looking  bed loungers, which  blocked the views and  hung rags all around ( like the  underworld in Phantom)  Cried when I saw it.   The creepy slithery  mime beings attempted to interact with guests who mostly told  them  to get lost..  on a later Summit trip, it was all back to normal.,I cheered!

Another iteration was a high cost event in the wine bar,...to also interact with the creepy mimes,,It failed  to attract interest  and was offered for free and  eventually went away..Also had stuff like that up at the Solarium...

And of course there was the soft porn pseudo sex shop a la cirque where you could buy over priced sensual massage oils,  feathers, candles etc,  That store not a big hit either,,

Hoping they confine the Edge beings to the  EDEN  perfomance restaurant and go with guitar and sax in the regular EDEN area and keep out the slithery creatures,

But there is evidently a contract with a company who specializes in stuff like this!

Wish moderators would  move  this to the EDGE threads  for continued  conversation.

It won't appeal to everyone, that's for sure. But anything has to be a welcome change from the production shows. The last one I sat through was just bad. I wouldn't even say it was high school variety show level talent.

Agree...but they should  get better material and talent rather than recycle old ideas that are no longer cutting edge,!

QM 2 had wonderful shows,  talented dancers and singers....possibly better trained and paid ???

We just watched the video and were reminded of Hair, which opened on Broadway in 1967.  With a little bit of an acid trip from Woodstock in 1969.  Not exactly innovative, Eden is.  We will give it a pass.

My exact thoughts.  I kept waiting for "when the moon is in the seventh house.................!!"

Doesn't look like Jupiter is aligning with Mars on that one............well maybe peace will guide the planets someday.

Well, Arcade Fire (the band who originated the rock song in most of the video) did ask fans to wear costumes or cocktail attire to their shows about five years ago, so I guess it's sort of appropriate. But mostly it just reminds me of how sci-fi movies from the late 70s/early 80s depicted the future.

Watched the whole video, OMG.....horrible....

Looks like a collaboration between Yoko Ono and the Marquis de Sade .

"...playful afternoons to sinful evenings."  I'll do my sinning in the Casino or my stateroom..  LOL.

Something similar was on the Anthem in the Club 270
