vicnsue Posted October 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2019 It has been at least 15 years since our last Princess Cruise. I have heard a rumor that Princess is no longer making up beds with a top sheet. Has anyone experienced this? We have been sailing with Celebrity the past few years and thought about giving Princess another try, but are having second thoughts if this is true. 1964pilot Posted October 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2019 I always ask my cabin steward to add one to our bed.
ehogan Posted October 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2019 Just returned from the Crown and we had two top sheets, one on each side of the duvet.
Rare phonejock Posted October 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2019 When you first met them, Just ask the steward to make up the bed with a top sheet. The only issue I ever had was years ago, when the steward made up the bed with a top sheet...on TOP of the duvet. A quick word and it was fixed. I am still laughing about it. 2
skynight Posted October 16, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2019 If your ship has the new bedding yes. Believe most ships have this bedding. https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/princess-luxury-bed/

lois1112 Posted October 16, 2019 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2019 I got off the Sapphire last month , and as a previous poster stated I had 2 top sheets around the duvet. I could remove the duvet and have just the sheets i I ha wanted to
JF - retired RRT Posted October 16, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2019 Yes. Not really a duvet cover. The 2 sheets are just sandwiching the duvet. Fine with me. No reason to request another top sheet.
Qcruise Posted October 16, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2019 They change out the duvet comforter on top between guests.......part of the new bedding
wheezedr Posted October 16, 2019 #10 Share Posted October 16, 2019 They stopped doing top sheets a few years ago. When my wife meets our room steward it is the very first thing she requests and it is always taken care of promptly. Just one more thing you have to attend to. Steelers36 Posted October 16, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 16, 2019 IMO, the only ships needing extra top sheet have been Regal and Royal of late as they were last to get the new Princess Luxury Bed. Once that turnover is completed this year, then the old top sheet issue should just melt away.

Yes, on the Royal Class ships, they do not put a top sheet on, just the duvet. This is way to hot for me to sleep under, so always ask for a top sheet to be added on top of the fitted sheet. This was always done without any problem, except for one time. Steward did not seem to get the idea. Finally, he did and all was well. Sky booked in January 2020...YAY!!! satxdiver Posted October 17, 2019 #14 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Last cruise in June the two top sheets had the duvet (or whatever it is called) in the middle. I believe this has always been the case as far as I can remember.

FritzG Posted October 18, 2019 #17 Share Posted October 18, 2019 On the Pacific last month our steward said that they use top sheets now because there were so many requests for them.
TM Posted October 18, 2019 #18 Share Posted October 18, 2019 We don't really like the duvet. It is too heavy. So we always ask the room steward to remove it and replace it with a top sheet and blanket. Never has been a problem and replaced cheerfully.

Steelers36 Posted October 18, 2019 #20 Share Posted October 18, 2019 Every ship but Royal/Regal has the Princess Luxury Bed and Regal/Royal should be at 100% soon. Therefore have built-in top sheet. Unless like @TM you don't want the duvet.
Colo Cruiser Posted October 19, 2019 #21 Share Posted October 19, 2019 On the Crown currently with an actual top sheet. We didn’t have to ask. I dislike the ones attached to the duvet.
Brisbane41 Posted October 19, 2019 #22 Share Posted October 19, 2019 I honestly cannot recall Princess ever not having a top sheet on their beds. There was some trend a few years ago when the GFC hit hard and hotels were trying to cut costs they started doing away with top sheets claiming it was some "modern trend", however on going to hotels I would demand they put one on immediately if it was not there and would regard it as a failure to deliver the product and service I paid for if they could not provide one and demand a full refund. It always worked and I got the top sheet within minutes. I think the trend quickly disappeared as I have never encountered a hotel since that does not do top sheets. All cruise lines I have been with have provided them.

DW is also very sensitive to fragrances and only uses fragrance-free detergents and soaps at home. She has never had a problem with cruise ship laundries, linens or towels. Hotels can sometimes be a problem but its something we just live with since it is not practical to be traveling all over the world hauling our own linens, towels, etc...not to mention doing our own laundry. Hank The big problem is that the laundromat vending machines only have the dreadfully stinky All detergent. If you plan on washing clothes I recommend bringing your own detergent with you.

If we are on Princess, HAL or Celebrity we get free laundry and will happily let the ship do the work. We pack "heavy" which also works to reduce laundry. Princess laundry is a bit slow (sometimes 3 days) but that is not a big problem on long cruises. Hank
