The only time I've ever been denied my CCL s/h credit was on my Zuiderdam sailing, which a significantly-reduced (not free) casino fare.  My upcoming Zaandam is also a casino fare and I'm guessing I'll be denied again.

 

it's rather frustrating because Carnival gives them to anyone who owns 100 shares - even people sailing in comped cabins.

 

Oh well.  I bought low and have received lots of OBC over the past 9 years or so, so I'm not going to complain too much.  It's just a little frustrating when the various lines under the CCL umbrella don't handle it in the same manner.

I’m confused by this.  Do you have a casino discount or a casino fare offer?  If it is drastically reduced it sounds like the special casino offers that are sent out?

 

I get the casino discount (it’s a nice discount that’s helpful, but I wouldn’t call it significant) and have never had a problem getting my CCL OBC.

No, they don’t give it to anyone who owns 100 shares as you have just experienced.  There are certain conditions that do not qualify for the OBC.

 

You know people in a complimentary cabin that are able to get the CCL OBC?  That seems very strange since it would be contrary to the policy stated to me 🤫

A bit OT, but does this February 28, 2020 date cause anyone to think that the CCL shareholder benefit is being changed or eliminated? With the recent change to the amount of OBC given for FCDs, it makes me wonder.

I had a different OBC request denied for an upcoming cruise for the following reason:

"not applicable to bookings made under mariner/campaign fares". I wasn't aware that I booked such a fare (or even what that is), perhaps they are getting more stingy with OBC?

Was surprised and delighted that Carnival brand has approved my $250 for January, 2021 departure.

Carnival brand also approved $50 CCL benefit for dirt cheap 5 day sailing with 2 days' notice.

That is interesting that you got the OBC for your Jan. 2021 departure.  The Carnival stockholder benefit sheet I recently printed out says "the benefit is only applicable on sailings through July 31, 2020."  We have an Antarctica/Solar Eclipse cruise booked for November 2020. We received our OBC for our upcoming Circle Hawaii cruise next month.

Kazu - I've never received a "free" cruise on Carnival from the casino.  But I know that people on the Carnival board have stated that they received the s/h OBC even though they paid only taxes & fees for the cabin.

 

My casino offers are through the cruiselines (I don't have any land casinos around so no comps from them).  I occasionally get a mailing from HAL for free/$99/pp; $199/pp, etc. starting with inside cabins cruises on very limited sailings.  Usually, by the time I get the mailing and go to the website to look for a free cabin, there are none available.  Surprised I get them at all as I'm not a high roller by any means.  On Carnival, I don't even play enough to get the free drinks card.  But I only sail HAL every few years so luring me back with these offers works!!

 

Anyway, I was able to book my upcoming cruise ($199/pp + taxes & fees for an inside) under one of these offers.  I'll submit my shareholder request at the beginning of the month, but I'm not expecting it to be granted.

 

As for when to request the credit, I typically wait until I'm within 60 days of sailing.  On rare occasions, I've also read on the Carnival board that people who submit their request way far in advance have been denied and told to resubmit closer to the sail date.  The thought is that you're supposed to own the shares when you sail, not just when you book.  And, of course, there's the renewal thing mentioned above.  So they typically don't apply it until they've renewed the benefit (which they always do but there's no obligation for them to do so!).

We got the casino free email about a month ago.  I called HAL and could get a 'free' inside cabin.  You had to pay the $200 each for taxes and fees.  We upgraded to balcony.  For the 11 day Rotterdam we ended up paying about $55 per day per person.  So we took it.   Neither the welcome back ZPM nor stock credit will  apply.  This is first cruise with no OBC.

i do like the casino.  Not a drinker but enjoy the slots.  Last cruise I hit two nice bonuses on the machines.  I did play more than normal but I came  home ahead.  I got on email for with a casino promotion of about 20 to 30 cruises.  Half started with free inside cabins and the others started at $99 or $199.  Then you could upgrade to whatever level you wanted up to neptune suites.  They had no Neptunes for our sailing available.  Had no plans to take a spring cruise but we head out in a month!

Casino offers and discounts are only sent out to people who have played a fair amount in the casino.  However, it is possible that others may get one or both if they have a solid history at a land based casino.

 

A casino offers generally comes via regular or e- mail.  These are often for free cabins (pay taxes and fees of course), but may allow you to pay a bit more for higher level cabins.  Most times these deals are ONLY for guarantee cabins.

 

A casino discount is for a reduced fare on most (not all) cruises and you can select any cabin you want.  I have seen these discounts run from 5-30%, but could be higher for major players.  I like this deal as I can pick my cabin and I still get any existing perks - extra OBC, free drinks, free grats, etc - that HAL is offering at the time.  Also, I have always been able to use my stockholder OBC and future cruise deposits with this discount.

We have been getting that Shareholder credit for more then 20 years.  The dates have always been extended year to yearalthough we have known others to be rejected because they simply applied to far in advance.  But, as was mentioned by other posters, we suspect the OP was denied because of the "restricted" fare.  We usually apply for our shareholder credit about 6 months prior to embarkation and have never been rejected.

I noticed you wrote "Carnival brand", not Carnival. Was the OBC credit possibly accepted by Princess? Princess used to allow you to book excursions in advance and not have the charge show up until you were onboard. When they stopped this practice, there was much grumbling from their customers. They compromised by allowing you to use OBC before the cruise to pay for excursions. The time limit seemed to be extended to make this work more efficiently.

Was this for a cruise on Holland America?  I called HAL World Cruise Reservations last week to inquire if I could submit my info for a 19 day cruise in August 2020 and was told to call back in April.  Presumably after the shareholder benefit is renewed.

Like I said, I don't gamble a lot.  I do spend quite a bit of time in the casino (that's usually my evening entertainment), but if I'm lucky, I can spend a few hours at the Roulette wheel and not lose it all in 30 minutes, like I sometimes do on the slots.  But I'm not throwing down $100 bills all night and betting $25 chips all over the board every spin!

 

I've sailed a few "Premier" casino sailings on Carnival.  Those are special sailings where those invited get free drinks in the casino while gambling and they have special games throughout the cruise.  

 

So, that  may be why, once I sailed with HAL once and didn't book again for a couple of years, I suddenly got one of these offers, which I used for my Zuiderdam sailing.  It's been over 2 years since I sailed on K'dam, and probably know I'm sailing on other lines and want me back.  At least, that's what I think is happening.

 

I asked my PCC why they couldn't send me these offers via email (I'm signed up to receive special offers) rather than snail mail so that maybe they wouldn't all be sold out by the time I get the mailing, but no one seemed to know.

 

Anyway, if I remember, I'll come back and let you know what the response is when I submit my share info.

Did you give them your email and ask them to reply?  If you didn’t you don’t hear anything back.

If you booked with HAL you should be able to see it when you log in (it will be added to you OBC).  If you booked with a TA, just ask for a new cruise confirmation.

Thanks.  No I did not ask for a response.  I did book with a TA.

 

Will it show up even with a TA after the 90 day payment deadline on the HAL site?  If not I will have the TA send me a statement.
