Things are certainly improving here, too.

My county in Texas has been down to 0 new Covid-19 infections for 14 days now.

Great! Yesterday it was big news that two towns (with their districts) in Rhineland-Palatinate - they are Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and Pirmasens - were down to a seven day incidence rate of - wait for it - zero! All over Germany there were eight with zero. Today we have an incidence rate in the German municipalities ranging from 82.4 to zero, for Germany as a whole it is 16.6. Particularly good is the fact that in the last 24 hours only 10 deaths have been reported. Monday is always under-reporting due to the weekend, but weeks ago 50 on a Monday would have been under-reporting and have sounded good.

Personally, I am not helping out the events people yet, but I have talked to them and they are able to stage outdoor events with 100 spectators again. The number of people allowed will rise soon.

The website cited by SuiteTraveler reported "In Florida, there were -26,123 newly reported COVID-19 cases and 292 newly reported COVID-19 deaths on Jun 11, 2021"!!! What does that even mean?

Their map has great swaths of Florida reporting no cases whatsoever.  What kind of inaccurate reporting have they done for other states?

Two weeks ago Florida - with no advance notice - began reporting only once a week so I know it is difficult for all the websites reporting daily statistics to adjust their reporting.   When I look at the official Florida report for the week of June 4 to June 10 there are 12,157 new cases and 40 deaths state-wide, which is a definite improvement but nowhere near reporting 0 or a negative number of cases.   One (out of 67) Florida counties reported 0 cases - Liberty county, population 8,800.

There has been a lot of controversy over how cases are counted in Florida.  I'm not certain how reliable those number are.

But the numbers are believable for my county as I watched the number of new cases get down to 100, then 50-something, then 25-something and then down in the low teens and single digits, followed by 0.  The other thing is people here wanted to get vaccinated and everyone who could took advantage of our vaccine hub in February through April. Now the vaccines are widespread and easy to get and people continue to get vaccinated.

Daisi I now have visions of a large group of plants obviously attentively listening to you the discussing the situation. Actually if our weather lasts much longer we will be in the same situation. CA

Well @Canal archive, my raccoons listen to me when I tell them we have the window open so no fighting...and they also know how to set off the security cameras so I feed them...no reason why my plants shouldn't listen to me as well!  We finally got some rain this afternoon...my bird bath has a bit of water in it now.  Hopefully the rain barrel will have a bit more with the run off from the roof.

Hope the rain crosses over the pond for you guys, and in Germany as well.

Thanks, happy to receive what you can spare. The weather report says that there will be some rain as a result of the heat, coming Friday into Saturday. Sunday and Monday should also give some drizzle, so not looking too bad.

I’ve just looked at the weather and they are threatening thunder storms and the air is so heavy we need a really big one. Oh and were not canaling on the Nivernais in France this year we’ve had to cancel boo hoo. CA

Thunderstorms it could be in parts here, too.

I am really sorry to read about the canal cruise. This is to do with the extension of the restrictions, right? So frustrating.

Unfortunately, I cannot go to England before my government lifts the strict quarantine regulations for Britain, as I just cannot quarantine on return. So it will be August at the earliest, but I reckon it could be October as my colleague will be on holiday in September.

Now that the warm weather is here I feel it again, this longing to be on the island. It hurts a bit.

Looks like neither of us will be crossing the channel for some time. :classic_sad:

Over being busy at work I have not been able to catch up with vaccine news. I am still waiting for an appointment by the way.

So, again, bad news about the AstraZeneca vaccine. Anybody surprised? The EMA (European medicine regulators) have added the capillary leak syndrome to the list of potential side effects. The UK regular is also looking at it, but currently does not issue a warning: https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-medicine-regulator-looking-capillary-leak-syndrome-precaution-astrazeneca-2021-06-11/

Right, back to housework and football! Germany playing France tonight. 🇩🇪 Here we go, here we go, here we go! Let us beat Les Bleus and send them back to their baguettes and cheese!!

Actually, they could leave me some baguette and cheese and Corbieres wine 🍷, but do not tell anyone, I might get angry words and stares at the beer garden. 😉

Yum, Corbières! And reasonably prices too. But I'm always in the mood for Gigondas.

Found some great Corbières around where I Iive years ago, but have not bought a bottle for a while now. Currently more feasting on Syrahs and Tempranillos.

I am not familiar with the taste of Gigonda. Hmm, I will have a look at a local well-stocked supermarket shelf...

Over the past two days, my county has gone up to 104 new Covid cases.  People here travel between counties a lot and many, many people are going on vacation to other states and Mexico, so although we had a little over 2 weeks without any new cases, there are enough cases in counties nearby that people can still catch Covid and bring it back here unfortunately.  😔   But, just the fact that we were able to get to zero for two weeks gives me hope that we can do that again.  Despite the gain here, overall cases in the US have declined a further 20% in the past 14 days.  I hope this trend continues here and abroad so that soon we will have eradicated this virus from the face of the earth.

Sorry to read that, SuiteTraveler. Here in Rhineland- Palatinate the two districts with zero incidence rate have also lost that status. But all districts are below 50, so that is good.

Like you say, it is good to see it is possible to get as low as zero. It will happen again. Overall, the incidence rate is still falling in my state.

We are ally going in the wrong direction but it does seem to be slowing although one report says that the scientists are tracking nearly 30 variants. Most of the newer sufferers are young adults none are double vaccinated but now we need to get the kids covered. Chin up all we will get there. CA

Let the UK be a warning to us in Germany...

...is what one health experts says. And if I may add, to Europe. Portugal is seeing an increase in cases especially in the Lisbon region and they think it is the Delta variant: https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/lisbon-ringed-off-weekends-portugal-fights-virus-surge-78337824

Will it lead to a fourth wave in Germany? It is in our hands - why on earth would I take my mask off indoors if the infection rate in my region is not zero?? Why would I stand close to someone outdoors if there has not been a case in my town for a week?? The writing for more damage being done before we are vaccinated is on the wall.

A friend's secretary is in hospital with presumed complications from a Covid-19 infection. She is not even forty.

Be careful out there, it is still a far too dangerous world.

P.S.: It is hot in Germany. My flat is still at 27 Celsius and it is 10.45pm.

We had a little rain today, we needed it. The specialists have discovered another existing aid to help some recover its one of the anti-virals, expensive but if it saves time in hospital and other drugs etc then the cost equals out. A lot of our problems are due to multigenerational living and people refusing the vaccine. CA

Fußbaall!!🍻 👏

It did not work that well against France, but today Germany has won against Portugal! It was an exciting match with unusual goals. I did not watch all of it, but the bits I watched were enjoyable. I do enjoy watching healthy-looking men running around a football pitch...

We need this - especially the men in our midst. It was so good to see the English and the Scottish fans being the human animals (that is a positive comment) they are, screaming and letting off steam yesterday. Oh, it is good to see international football back.

No figures, no comments today from me otherwise about the situation. I just feel like not talking about it.

Weekend work for me is back and I actually enjoy it.

It is boiling hot here, 31 Celsius in my kitchen and when the pain has gone I will be able to appreciate my dentists efforts to restore my gums. Sounds worse than it is but the heat is affecting me.

Hope you all have air-conditioning or similar devices, I just stand in front of the fridge with the door open when it gets too much.

Have a good Sunday.

It has actually never occurred to me to try that out, thanks.

Thunderstorms are forecast for during the night for Rhineland-Palatinate, I hope it does not get too extreme.

It was mentioned during the game how hot is has been in Germany.  At one point in the 2nd half there was a brief cooling break so the players could get some water.  Never saw that before--then again, I mostly watch English Premier League games, where it's usually raining or cold no matter the season!

On the flip side, during the Spain--Poland game it was mentioned that Seville was cooler than the typical 90+ degrees F normally seen in June.  Germany should give Spain its heat back!!

The mid half break was introduced a few years ago would you believe by the premier league, apart from anything else it was when Fabrice Muamba had his heart attack on the field. Although we don’t or haven’t had excessive heat as in the rest of Europe the enclosed stadia allows the build up of heat.

Our Scots lads are great the kilt is fine as long as it’s made from traditional cloth, weight, but if it’s made from modern lighter weight fabric and it’s worn traditionally, oh my days, cover your eyes girls. CA
