Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

I totally understand your concern.  I'm 'hopefully' leaving on a cruise on Monday.  Had my PCR test earlier today and was told (by Kaiser) that the results would be within 24-48 hours.  Fingers crossed.

How was the PCR test?  Was it a uncomfortable brain tickler?  We scheduled our test with Kaiser Sept. 7, 3 days before our Sept. 10 Ovation Alaska cruise.  They don't do the rapid antigen test.  Trying to avoid PCR.  There is no rapid antigen test available at any CVS or Walgreens in the area at all.  Even if it's far away, it's still really difficult to get an appointment.

First one I've ever had and was not sure what to expect.  It actually wasn't as bad as I had feared, but it definitely makes your eyes water, and make you feel like you want to sneeze.  No pain.  They swab the back of your throat and up both nostrils.  I asked about the rapid antigen test and was told they aren't doing them.

I still remember my first Disneyland visit they still had the coupon book using the A-E system so I must be OLD…

Add me to that “old” group.  My first trip to WDW was in 1973. Stopped there on a road trip to the Orange Bowl with a couple of my college fraternity brothers. We were traveling in true Cheapo Dad fashion, sleeping on the beach and meals of homemade chocolate chip cookies from our mothers.

A faded photo of the castle in 1973, taken with my Kodak fiesta camera.

By the way, it cost me $5.75 to get into WDW with the 8 adventure tickets.

Glad to see someone actually using a convection oven. I have friends who scared themselves away from it.

Our old oven went out last summer.  We replaced it with a double oven with the main being convection.  We love it.  First oven with convection.  If I preheat the oven with the stone in it at 550 for about 45 minutes, the pizza is done in about 7 minutes. I like it cooking cookies because of how evenly they all cook.  One thing I haven’t tried is using it like an air fryer.  Have you tried one like that?  I guess I need to google it.

Another thing that is new to use is it has an induction stove top.  It is great.  Turn it on high and you can have boiling water in just a couple minutes.  Had to get new pans.  Pots and pans have to be magnetic for it to work.  I still am looking for that perfect pan for it.

I didn't realize they throw in the extra throat swab.  No charge.  Now I definitely don't want the PCR.

DD2 is here visiting with her boyfriend.  Micheline and daughter wanted to go to the spa.  Boyfriend and I had no interest in getting a facial.  Boyfriend and I wanted to fly in a powered hang glider.  Micheline and daughter had no interest in anything like that.  Perfect solution...they went to the spa while we went flying.  It was a LOT of fun.  I'll definitely be doing that again.  Sorry...no spa pictures.

I’ll let you know what I find out. I’m looking at the Sept 13th Freedom cruise since Mike has 5 days off then.

Just a suggestion, if you have never had a covid test you may want to get one just to see the process and help alleviate anxiety you may have about how it all works.

I have done a couple PCR tests and all of them I did myself sitting at the drive thru window of a CVS pharmacy.      They pass thru the drive thru tray a brown lunch bag with the kit.    they walk you thru step by step.   you insert the qtip yourself so it's not painful since you do yourself.   it kinda tickles and feels weird but didn't hurt at all.     you rotate the qtip around for something like 15 seconds in one nostril then repeat in 2nd nostril then place qtip (head down) into a test tube, close it up, put into a plastic bag that is labeled with all your information and drop it off at one of those white lab boxes they have attached to the wall of the drive thru.   wipe down the lid with a wipe they provide in the test kit and drive away.

That looks like something I would love to do.  I bet it was a rush when you left the ground.  Floating around in the air is so nice.  A friend of ours has taken us up in his air balloon.  Fun.

Every other week out state Dep. Of Health has an update meeting for physicians in the state. They seem to always mention what is going on in Israel. You folks seem to be a barometer for what we should shortly be expecting here.

Makes me wonder then why Israel went with a 5 month span and US is going with 8 months.  But then again I’ve wondered about many things in the past 16 months 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow! That's really digging deep in the archives.👍

I have similar yellowing picture from my first Disneyland visit in the 70s with my parents & my uncle's family. Back then seat belts were more "optional" for kids so the whole clan loaded up the station wagon for a road trip with 3 of us hanging out in the back of the station wagon area.  Can't do that nowadays. Fond memories...
