I have always enjoyed foreign sport cars.  As a teenager I tried to get a loan to buy a Jaguar XK-E.  It looked beautiful  My friend liked rebuilding Triumphs.

My first car was a triumph herald soft top. I thought I was the bees knees driving it with the top down. Unfortunately it had such big gaps in the top it use to let in the rain and the snow. But I loved that car

The station we go to is charging $4.29 a gallon and they are the cheapest in the neighborhood!

Over here it's around £1.55 per litre, so if my maths is correct, around £6 an American gallon or $7.60 a gallon 😱

They're saying that heating costs will be three times the cost next winter

Jaguar and Aston Martins build some of the most classically beautiful cars in the world.

Hubby's retirement car is a soft top Jag, idea was to take it to the continent and drive it around those Italian mountains,  then covid hit ...

Maybe the fact that he loves his vehicles more than he loves his family explains why he's my ex!  LOL

Any possession, no matter how expensive, is just a thing.  Things can be replaced.  People cannot.

I learned the new phrase "drop top" last weekend.  Apparently, Brits don't use the term "convertible"? One more difference between English and English.

Another one that the English say but is actually French, is it a coupe or a coupé?

March Madness soon 🙂

Hoping Virginia Tech gets in, the school is about 1/2 hour up the road in Blacksberg, Va.  They are really playing well lately and think they might do well if they get in.

I didn’t realize you were that close.  We’ve spent a fair amount of time around there over the years. My youngest DD went to Virginia Tech for one semester before transferring to URI and my oldest DD graduated from Roanoke College, so lots of drives up & down I-81.  It’s a beautiful area.

I hope@singinalotCrystal had a wonderful time at the AMC awards tonight.  I don't know if it was televised but I saw a bit online, of Kelly Clarkson singing "I Will Always Love You" to Dolly that brought the house down.  Amazing performance.

We watched it and really enjoyed it. Pretty much an interruption-free show. It was only live-streamed on Amazon Prime.

Yes, very close, Christiansburg/Blacksberg about 30 minutes from us.........and have drove by Roanoke College many times which is about an hour north of us where we take our cats to a Veterinarians for Cats.

The drive on 81 is so pretty with mountains to the left and right of the highway. Pretty soon those pink bud trees will be out in bloom. You see them in the areas between North and Southbound median strips between the highways between Christiansburg and Roanoke. Really beautiful.

I do have an unrelated food question concerning soft shelled crabs. :classic_biggrin: I am looking at Hooked on our Navigator cruise next month. Deep-Fried soft-shelled crab. We have the UDP, so I could just order, but it sounds kind of creepy. Are they really not crunchy at all? (There is no shell?) And they taste like regular crab? I love crab. But I am also a picky eater.

Not creepy at all.  Delicious!!  The crab have molted off their hard shell and have yet to form another.  At the wonderful taste of crab without all the work!

My late dad's first car was also a Triumph Herald in 1962.

My first car was a Mark 1 Ford Escort in 1973.

My husband Bill was a judge at the Concours shows (invitational and otherwise) for many years. One year I just took photos of the different car grills, because I am not really a car person. Most interesting part of the cars. (photo-wise) :classic_biggrin: It was while we were still working, and it just got to be too much. He recruited another dedicated car guy and restorer to replace him, and gracefully dropped out.

There is no shell. They were just starting to grow a new one.
So no crunch, and they’re delicious!

Those pink bud trees might be redbuds, but I’ll bet they’re pink dogwood.
Either of them is a beautiful sight.

I met a lot of interesting people when I was doing the restoration of my 1970 Boss 429. I bought it with the engine block in the trunk and it was literally a rolling shell. The story went that it was traded in the 80s for some construction work and the new owner stripped it and never got any further.

It took over 3 years and I bought parts from collectors, people who made one off air intakes because you could find them, a custom factory replacement exhaust system date coded to the time to which the car was made, seat belts and shocks date coded as well.  All cottage industries, so to speak. I found an oil pan in Vegas  from a guy with a motor cycle repair shop, who repaired it from its damaged state. I found a camshaft at a boat shop, to which the owner was saving for decades.  I found a new old stock rim blown horn still in the box when it was ordered in the early 80s. I even bough an unused replacement engine block from Brooklyn NYC, sight unseen, as the original block had been bored out already and was not salvageable.  I wired the money while the block was headed by carrier to Buffalo. That’s just the surface of the build, but I got to meet a lot of people along the way.

It was the build quality that helped me to take first at a concourse and be invited to Amelia Island.

LOL, that’s for sure. I’d have to think about how many cars I’ve owned over the years but I can easily say just 2 sets of golf clubs. I’ve always made the comment, I’d love to be cruising… in a car or on a ship.

One last Concours photo, from today’s paper.
I think this would be more fun for running around the neighborhood than a golf cart!

I have to ask this.  I’ve always shied away from soft shell crabs.  Do they remove the stuff you wouldn’t want to eat?  Like insides and head?  My son lives in Maryland now and we visit occasionally.  Now that more places are open I’d like to try some of the restaurants instead of ordering Uber eats.

I hope he is making good progress  at home. A good night’s sleep works wonders.
Happy birthday to your daughter.
That’s a cake I would love a slice of. Maybe two! 🎂

I didn't see it, but I thought Sam Elliot's comments were "interesting". He didn't like it, obviously. :classic_dry:

Apparently he is taking a lot of heat for those comments. He should have kept his mouth shut. I love him as an actor. Wish he wouldn’t confuse fiction with history.

"Rag top" works as well, although the triple-layered cloth & insulated top on my 2007 Saab convertible is anything but rags.  It's pretty thick & sturdy. 15 years old & its still solid, cozy warm in the winter with no water leaks or windy drafts and a car thief would need a chain saw to cut thru it.
