Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

We are looking to try a Celebrity Cruise next year in Europe.    As a newbie to Celebrity I am looking for some opinions to my following questions.

My Brother has never cruised before so I want him to fall in love with cruising and hopefully him and his Wife will join us on future cruises.

1.    Your thoughts on Equinox   (for reference we enjoy Radiance class on Royal - ship size, more of a classic cruise ship and all the windows).

2.   Is it worth buying the AI upfront?    The cost is approx. $700 more per cabin.   Eric and I are D+ = Elite+ with Celebrity.   Looking at 9 night sailing and Yes, we will want internet to stay in touch with family, work and CC.   We will have 3 sea days (plus boarding day).

2a.    Is it better to buy one of those european packages for our phones while at port thenwe could just purchase onboard wifi for the 3 days at sea?

2b   Yes, we will want specialty coffees and will have cocktails during the day while at sea (including wines at dinner) and bottled waters.       We do Not buy the DBP with Royal since we are D+ and Casino Prime.

Any other things I need to know about Celebrity would be greatly appreciated.

If it is $700 per cabin on a 9 night I would definitely do it.  Your elite+ status will only get you drinks for a few hours a night, think 5 to 7 but not positive, from a specific list.  Think old diamond lounge list.  The bigger question would be do you need to upgrade the drinks package. Celebrity has 2 levels and for some included packages they only give you the lower one, about $10 max for drinks.  The higher gets you a higher included price, martinis are not fully covered with the lower package.  Same goes for internet, at least when we were in January, 2 levels and depending on what you need you may need to upgrade.  Upgrade prices for both vary greatly but you can usually get some good sales.

Your thoughts on Equinox

Debbie, we were on Equinox 10 years ago. The food was the best we had and the ship was beautiful.

Can't help you with the drinks, since the last time we were there we had the AI.

The wifi of the AI was good for checking email, FB, etc. You're both "eligible" to 240 mins free wifi and we didn't take it in one "block", we logged in and out, mainly we needed it for the sea days.

If the AI now includes the drinks, it is better, since the "free" drinks are limited to 5-7PM...

Pls. let me know if I can help you with the itinerary.

1.    Your thoughts on Equinox   (for reference we enjoy Radiance class on Royal - ship size, more of a classic cruise ship and all the windows).    LOVE THE EQUINOX. My favorite of the S Class! Been on it several times. Very happy it is being home ported in PC for a little while.

NO. Not for us. We are Elite Plus with X. Lots of discounted offers pop up. Call always for E+ discounts. Better (WIFI pkg) via phone than what you see on cruise planner. We don't drink, so no packages. We get complimentary coffees, specialty coffees, iced coffees, teas, etc (no liquor in it). Bottled water is not complimentary.

2a.    Is it better to buy one of those european packages for our phones while at port thenwe could just purchase onboard wifi for the 3 days at sea?    Don't know about European Pkgs.

Bottled water is not complimentary. Captain's Club Happy hour will get you some drinks, wines, bottled water, soda. Casino will get you every thing you ask for while playing, irrespective of you being E+ or anything less. Don't forget the Captain's Club Elite Breakfast every morning. It is a continental setting and sometimes as a buffet but mainly served.

Any other things I need to know about Celebrity would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to LOVE the Equinox!

Never been on Celebrity but definitely worth getting EU calling on your phone.

We often pick up a signal on port days a couple of hours before arrival and a couple of hours after departure.

Beware if you are going to Turkey it is not in the EU.

In Kusadasi port(compound )there is a place where they sell electronics the crew go to face time their families on computers and we have paid to use the shops phones to ring home.

Thank you Graham.    We are looking to do a 9 night sailing departing from Barcelona and sailing Spain, Portugal (with an overnight in Lisbon) and Morocco.

My intended post went poof in cyberland...sigh.

2nd attempt: @aussielozzie18  @FromSea2ShiningSea Your pictures never disappoint!  A true feast for the eyes.

@lenquixote66 Lenny I hope your spirits lift soon and that posting in here helps.

@dani negreanu That picture of you looking out at the sea should be framed and hung so you can experience a bit of that serenity at home.

I also wondered about luggage and switching rooms on a b2b.  I knew this would be the place for good advice. AND do we have to go to our 2nd cruise muster station to sign in?  Different location.

Yes, you do have to do muster station for each cruise.

Definitely try to have a couple of nights in Barcelona.

Morocco is not in the EU but you might get a world plan to include it for phone/internet.

RE:    Celebrity....with the perks we get as Elite+ 240 minutes of internet should be fine for us if we get a EU phone pkg for when we are ports (except Morocco).   Just torn on the beverage package and whether to do the AI for Eric and myself or wait and see about black friday sales if we book  cruise in coming weeks.

Brother and SIL probably should purchase the AI and upgrade to premium drink pkg.

Just get back from Atlantic City, somehow I misplaced my money🤪Charlie came home with his though.  We were invited to my host’s birthday celebration.  They served a lovely dinner of filet mignon and shrimp and scallops.  I was expecting the usual buffet setup so this was a nice surprise.

Maybe your car is the same and your stepdaughter's phone has priority?

You are correct! After checking to see which phones connect to my car, the Samsung Galaxy A50 (step-daughter) is 1st and Samsung Galaxy S10 (mine) is 2nd.

I always assumed it was listing phones in alphabetical order, not priority.  Problem solved & corrected.

Thank you again for your technical knowledge. Should you ever want some part-time, post retirement work, you'd be a valuable addition to Best Buys' Geek Squad. 🙂

@brillohead Debi and @BonTexasNY Bonnie, thank you for asking about Merv.  He’s a faithful one alright, always making sure I know he’s around.  Some days more so but for the most part, I deal with him pretty well.

These are Beautiful pictures!

Congratulations to my New York Yankees for winning AL and going to the World Series. Soto will be a very rich player very soon.

I was out late the last 2 night's so I recorded both games to watch when I got home. The back & forth scoring & late inning heroics from both sides got to be too nerve-wracking so I watched the game while fast forwarding to the end.   People may think that winning the series 4 games to 1 was a easy cake walk but it was anything but.

While Judge might be the face of the Yankees, Soto & Stanton have come up huge for them.

We were out also and watched Yankees when we got home , rarely stay home Saturday normally at someplace with live music. Soto and Stanton were great ,

Congratulations to the Yankees.Would you rather see them play the Mets or the Dodgers?

I as you know am a Mets fan but in my opinion a Dodgers vs.Yankees WS would be a classic.

The New Yorker in me would love to see another subway series between the Yankee & Mets but I'm sure the executives at MLB  & Fox Sports would prefer Yankee-Dodgers. Two traditional rivals going at it one more time plus the East Coast vs West Coast, Broadway vs Hollywood angle would capture viewer & ratings on both sides of the  country.
