I never played golf, but volunteered at the Jacksonville Open which became the TPC, and that became The Player’s Championship.

I played Hidden Hills Golf Club a couple of weekends ago.  I was told that the original Jacksonville Open was played there, prior to the TPC on Sawgrass Stadium Course.  Nice course.  You could see that place must have a been a big deal back then.

I have never gained weight on a cruise .I guess I am in a minority .

When I was physically able to I was in the fitness center at 6:30AM exercising till 7:45 AM then back to the cabin to change clothes ,have breakfast. On a sea day I walked on the ship for about two hours or back to the fitness center for two hours. After lunch it was walking again.

On port days I always walked even if I had a shore excursion.

Eric looses weight on every cruise as he exercises a lot more on and off board then at home.     Me, I tend to gain 5 +/- pounds each cruise as I eat a lot more deserts and other food then I do at home.    At least I do lose that weight after a week or two of starvation when back home😄

Been away for a few days, only 30 pages behind so forgive me if I've missed anything.

Our 34th anniversary was the end of October and just fit in a quick trip to new spots to us.  Spent a few days in both Asheville and Cheroke both in the mountains of NC.  Visited the Biltmore estate (Vanderbilt family), various local breweries, an Indian Village and of course the local casino where our luck was not consistent with Sue and others  on here lately.  We saw lots of great fall foliage in both places and walked and ate way too much.  Adding a few pictures, Biltmore had most of their holiday decorations up, beautiful.

The last pictureis a sign we found at Dirty Jack's Green Man brewery in Asheville, found it appropriate, and personally relatable, to the retirement discussions here.

April

Happy Anniversary!

We visited Biltmore years ago and stayed one night at thier hotel. I loved it. So happy to see your pictures.

We have stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Marriot Harbor Beah Resort & Spa. It's a very nice Resort and it's at a great location. About 15 minutes from the Airport and 15 minutes from Port Everglades.

We had a room that overlooked the beautiful pool, and you could also see the ocean to the left of the pool.

We enjoyed our stay alot  !

But does it have a hot tub like yours ?????😁😁

I will look it up. Thanks.

We had a very busy day in the yard yesterday.     I cut back all my daisy bushes and some other bushes, now have 6 cans full of yard waste.    Grilled some filet mignon last with baked potatoes and creamed spinach - Yummy!

Today we will mow the lawn and do round 2 of leaves.

Nice crisp sunny morning - suppose to be around 57 but in the 60's this coming week.

I had my annual physical the other day - all went well.   Received my flu shot and all went well, no side effects.     Tuesday morning is blood work day, hopefully my cholesterol is in check, last labs said I was border line on the high side.

I have my annual mammogram and first ever pre-colonoscopy consult scheduled.

had 1 of my cars inspected last week and minor repairs done but learned a backlight for dashboard illumination would cost over $650 if I buy direct from mopar as they replace the whole cluster when it is simply a circuit on the board that needs replaced.    learned online last night there is a place you can ship your instrument panel cluster and they repair the board for $199 plus shipping.   Have more research to do.

Work has been very busy since we returned home.    Good to be busy but it was crazy busy and didn't help that we had a "know it all" customer buying his first home wanting to argue about that everything we need from him.    His non stop emails and phone calls were becoming very annoying and disruptive for everyone in the office as he screams and hollers at everyone.    Top boss will speak with him tomorrow and hopefully he calms down or goes elsewhere.

It started at Selva Marina, and moved to Hidden Hills. I like that course because it wasn’t flat. I started volunteering in the 70’s when it moved to Deerwood Country Club on Southside Blvd in Jax.
When it became the TOC, it moved to Sawgrass, with some ocean views, while the Player’s Course was being built on swamp and scrub oak land.
I was on the leaderboards, and back then, we had rails that you slid the cards through. After almost every hole there were changes, and most of the time it required sliding all the cards out and redoing them, before the golfers and galleries came. Our adrenaline was pumping for hours!

When we moved across A1A, it got much bigger, and instead of condo parties after, corporations bought tents and chalets and provided food and booze.
I switched to marshaling and used my mom skills.
Those were fun years, all 18 of them, till I wore out.
Bob, they are always looking for volunteers, so if you ever get bored…

You got me at watching the ships sail out. I booked Sunday ships just so I could do that.
There used to be an empty lot in a nice neighborhood. We would go stand and watch and wave…almost close enough to pass a cup of sugar.
Then came the year a security guard came with lights flashing and ran us off.
I guess the nice neighborhood didn’t appreciate us.

she qualified at age 48. Her dream came true and she loved working on the maternity wards.

I am very proud of her.

God Bless your Mom.  How wonderful that her dream finally came true, after such a hard life she had at such a young age.

My Mom was 8 or 9, and the oldest of four children when her Mom died of TB.  Life wasn't easy for my Mom, but you wouldn't know it.  She gave so much.  She volunteered for so many organizations since I was a child.

You sure have been busy, Debbie!  It sure is a nice day to get outdoor work done today.  I mowed yesterday, and will finally finish pruning the butterfly bush today, since the bird nest is finally empty.

Good to hear that your physical went well.  Jim and I go for ours next Monday.

It's great that you've got your mammo and colonoscopy scheduled.

Bummer about your car, and an even bigger bummer that you and your coworkers had to deal with a big know it all.

Thanks for the info. Our next flight is in Feb to Fort Lauderdale.

I get my booster on Monday. Bought Tylenol today. I hate shots.

The shot did not bother me...it was the light headache and really sore arm for 3 days that did.  But worth it.   Indeed Tylenol in the morning was a big help....and a glass of wine at happy hour.  😉

Good luck with the booster.  I got my Moderna booster on Thursday, didn't feel the shot at all but have had a very sore arm and rash on the arm since Thursday night.  I also got the night sweats and chills Thursday night, so bad, that I was hyperventilating at one point.  Friday night was better, only restless and night sweats.  Finally got a full night sleep last night and feel normal today, other than the arm.  I hate getting shots too but I wanted this booster now, before the holidays.

Drink lots of water as they say that helps.  My reminder notice said to drink 16 ounces of water prior to getting the shot.

My mother as an orphan in the 1930s had to go out to work and be self sufficient by the age of 14. She went to work in service, but her dream was to be a nurse. Eventually after travelling the world in the forces and bringing up a family, she had the  chance to train as a state enrolled nurse in her 40s and she qualified at age 48. Her dream came true and she loved working on the maternity wards.

I am very proud of her.

That is wonderful

When I was a kid I was very fat, bordering on obese. When I was 17 a guy moved to Brooklyn from Marlyland. He was in great physical shape and spoke to me about the importance of watching my weight and exercising. He convinced me to go to the local “Y” that had a gym.A year and a half later I was all muscle.I keep a picture of myself in my wallet .

I do not eat junk food .I eat as well as possible. This morning I weighed 185.6.

I go Tuesday for my booster.  Hope the side effects aren’t like the second shot as  I have a haircut scheduled for Wednesday!!

Charlie never gains weight on vacation, I on the other hand gain just by looking at food😳

I hope you do well on Tuesday too!  I had my hair appointment the week before my booster as I knew I always have issues with shots.

We still don't know what will be done with the car that was in the accident.   Last week we decided to just get a new one.  We were looking to replace it before the accident but planned to put it off until supply was better.  Not the best time to buy a car.

Not the best time to buy a car but it is a great time to sell a used car.  Did you take the vehicle to collission center?  I would get it repaired and sell it yourself, instead of doing a trade in.  Check out Bbb value online and you can sell it on your local Facebook marketplace.

I was surprised that he asked that question but there are people who are not aware that there are fitness centers on ships. My first cruise was in 1973 and gyms on ships did not exist then.Had that been the only cruise I was on I might not have realized that there are fitness centers currently.

We were able to cut stuff off around the wheel and slowly drive it to the body shop the night of the accident.   This body shop is an authorized insurance estimator for the insurance company taking car of it.  Our cruise friend will help us sell it if it isn't totaled.

We ended up buying a truck less than two months ago because of a rotted frame in my DH's suv that was found during an oil change.  Not much on the lot to choose from but he is happy with what he got.  Absolutely no price negotiating though, sticker price or walk.  We also have a car that needs to be repaired at the collision center and parts are really hard to come by.  It needs a rear quarter panel and we have been told the estimated date for the part is 00/00/00!  They will update us when there is an actual estimated date but don't hold our breath. 😞 My brother in Texas has a friend who had an suv stolen and then totaled.  They found a replacement at a dealership but the price is $15K over sticker! 😱  I hope you are able to find something without having to pay a premium. 🙂
