What idiot engineer thought that up?

Probably someone that got a great bonus.

But it did little for Pontiac.   May they RIP.  Pontiac that is.

Also

Jade is beautiful!

Does she have run of the house or do you limit her access to some areas at night?

Lizzy is just 15 weeks old and still very inquisitive.

She has her own comfy bedroom at night and family room kitchen and mud room when were home.

Just wish she would stay in this kitten phase for awhile.

Take care

Jade was initially limited for the first month or so. She was so small it was really hard to find her since she was in hiding mode most of the time. However, the house is now hers.

At one time I had a Pontiac Grand Prix. The Fob definitely could be pried apart to change the battery.

I've had a friend of mine - a daughter of a fire chief - that would unplug all unnecessary appliances when leaving the house.  And I mean everything - coffee machine,  toaster, TV's, etc.

At our 2nd home in the Poconos we turn off/unplug everything when we leave except for what's needed for security cameras.  Of course when we leave our primary house don't do any of that.  Difference, at least in our minds, usually only away from, home about a week, other house could be months depending on season.

The only thing I will run when not home is the roomba, but do run dishwasher at night which is currently the only appliance we haven't replaced.

I guess this is a good time to tell y’all about our elevator incident.
When we cruise out of Pt Everglades, we go a few days early to rest up from the 5 hour drive. 😊

We always eat at Zuccarelli and at Seaside Grill in Pompano Beach.
Seaside has a flight of exterior stairs to climb, but luckily  they have an elevator for the handicapped.
It is a rusty white metal box sitting on the ground next to the stairs. The exit is on the landing in front of the door.
Dick dropped me at the elevator and went to park the car.
The door was locked and the sign said push button to enter.
I pushed the button and a few seconds later I heard a click and opened the door.
Stepped in, closed the door and pushed the button. Nothing happened. The inside was so rusty, I shouldn’t have been surprised the buttons didn’t work. We hadn’t been there since April ‘19.
Dick opened the door and asked what I was doing.
When I said the button doesn’t work, he crowded in (it’s a one person elevator), slammed the door shut and pushed the button. Of course!!
He pushed all the buttons. Surprisingly, they didn’t work any better for him than they did for me!

Another surprise, now the door was locked!

We were  jammed together in a very rusty metal box in August in South Florida.
It was hot and getting hotter.
There was an opening at the top of one wall, so we could breathe.
I pulled my cell out to call the restaurant, and No Service!!! The box must have lead in it.
No one is coming up the stairs next to us. No sounds at all except traffic out on A1A.
My 88 year old superhero husband saved the day!!!

He climbed up on the railings, one on each side of us, took my cane (which I almost didn’t bring), poked it out if the small opening at the top, and was able to poke the 2nd floor door to the restaurant.
He kept doing it till a woman came to see what was making the noise.
She went and pressed whatever it needed to unlock the door.
She came out and down the stairs and took us up a few steps to the bottom floor of the restaurant and seated us there. She said she’d send a server down.
No apology, not even an “Are you ok?”

The server did ask if we’d like some clam chowder, and comped us a sparse cup to share between us.
We ordered and ate a good lunch, after all that.
Had we not been through the trauma of trying to get our tests done the day before, we might have been upset by the fact that we could have stayed trapped in that elevator till the heat got us.
But thanks to the test screw up, the elevator seemed almost inevitable.
Needless  to say, Seaside Grill won’t see us again.
But it sure made it twice as wonderful to get on the ship!

That sounds horrible and even worse how the restaurant staff didn't even ask if okay or say anything about it.  I wonder if they were afraid to for liability reasons.

Did you happen to post a review online for this restaurant?  I would let others know.

Started the ball rolling, who knows who is covering what!  We have to wait for our health insurance and if they won’t pay than we do travel insurance.  Kids are happy, although Kayla is finding high school so different.  How is your job?  Was it hard to go back??

Hopefully Kayla will adjust over time to HS.  It is a big adjustment, totally different vibe as I recall.

I love my new job but have been very busy since I returned from our cruise since we had fiscal year end 8.31 and I'm working on all the year end accounting stuff.

Eric is missing me working with him and mortgage biz is really slow.   He keeps thinking about retiring early.  I keep saying hang in there and try to stick to plan to retire at 65 in March 2024.  He's 7 yrs older than me so I've got awhile to go.

Good luck with insurance claim.  Hopefully it goes smoothly.   😀

I did. I posted on Trip Advisor.
I said the food is good but the elevator outside is a death trap.
What I wish we had done was figure out who to notify about it.
We were so wiped out by the previous day’s panic we were just glad to have survived it all.

Bothersome, I know, but not "surprises" either....

I have always left the house with either washer and or dryer running.  My Mom kept telling me Never do that.  As I got older I try not to leave but admit I have on occassion.

I obviously missed something in this thread as if that is something new. What is the ins. claim?

My MIL does that except she is really bad as she pulls on the cord to unplug and has several outlets that do not work probably because of a loose wire with her yanking at cords.   Eric's Dad used to tell her to stop pulling, but she never listens to anyone.

I do not know if I shared. But these FOB for GTO do not give you the option of changing the batteries. When there  done you throw them out

I was still able to use the original from 2006.  There supposed to last 5 years. We got 16 years from first owner and me.

We heard that there is a lock specialist in Columbiana Ohio that replaces FOBS. Gotta find out if he programs them. If he sells them they should.

Wish me luck.

I had a good friend recently loose her key fob while shopping at a mall.  It was the only one, no spare at home.

She called an automotive locksmith who came to her car, sold her new fob then programmed it right in parking lot mall.  Expensive, I think she paid something like $250.

We have Ting monitoring for electrical hazards at the other house. Oue insurance company gave us a unit and 3 years of monitoring. It is pretty cool! 😀  https://www.tingfire.com/

Never seen them. How many units do you have in total?   Do you place them based on different circuits/breakers?

You only need one monitor and it monitors your entire electrical system and the power that is coming in from the utility. It is kind of an amazing little unit. You also receive a weekly report, and phone/text/email if it encounters any possible hazards or potential problems.

Thats great!   Sounds like something we should get for our shore house that will be vacant for a couple months this winter and one for primary home.

I didn't see prices are they expensive?

I think they might be kind of pricey. 😧 We have State Farm, and they offered a unit and 3 years of monitoring at no cost. Ours is at the unoccupied house, too. I am not looking forward to finding out the cost after that ends. But we will probably keep it, because it is nice to know when there are outages and other things that we can't always tell from the cameras.

Toby lost one and also paid about $250.The last time I drove there was no such thing as a fob.Next month will be 19 years .

Update. Linda talked to someone at Hilton Downtown Miami who was actually nice and helpful. Rebooked for $218. Sorry to drag all of you along with me. Just glad it's over and lesson learned never book a hotel through a third party.

That’s nice you are getting what you want and it’s fixed before you leave. Enjoy your cruise.

A couple of these looked interesting.  I may have to make a return trip.

🤔 I wonder if the ship has pumpkin purée? I would love to have one of the Pumpkin Pie Martinis. They do make pumpkin soup so maybe they do. 😁  It sounds so good. I love anything with pumpkin.

I would call the fire department in that area... you can still do it now, and I highly recommend you do, before something horrible happens to someone else!

The fire department is who would have to fish out the dead bodies if anything happened, so they would know which building code inspector needs to be notified to do their dang job.

I'm bored at work and looked it up.... you can email the Fire Chief from this page:

https://www.pompanobeachfl.gov/government/fire-rescue

You don't even have to write a long letter -- just copy/paste your post from here, telling the Fire Chief what the date of your incident was.  The restaurant management was notified of the problem on that date, and if they still haven't made repairs (or shut down the death trap), the potential for more incidents grows every day.

I'm not much of a drinker, but a local bar had specialty "fall drinks" a couple years ago when I was there with friends.  I enjoyed a drink of apple cider with Fireball (cinnamon booze) garnished with a donut hole!

So what have I been doing during my “break”?  Drove out to eastern CT for a beach day at Hammonasset Beach State Park.  It was a perfect 10 weather-wise, warm and calm water. It was an ideal way to wind down summer. Which, BTW, is still not over for a few more weeks so keep that pumpkin spice everything away from me! LOL.

Afterwards, I headed up to my brother-in-law (DW brother) for 6 days in upstate NY. He has a house on one of the Finger Lakes - Seneca Lake to be specific. The weather was pretty gloomy for 4 of the 6 days. Heavy overcast and lots of hit and run rain showers that kept everything damp.  This limited the amount of play time on the lake itself but had plenty of time to visit the many wineries and craft breweries in the region and other wise feast like a king! Is it really possible to gain 6 pounds in 6 days?

This past Saturday, Sept 10th, was my birthday. My 2nd bday without my DW being able to be at my side.  Family and friends’ step-up to the plate to keep my occupied. My brother took me to a Yankee game on Friday, Sept 9th where they had a special ceremony honoring Derek Jeter’s induction to the Hall of Fame.

Saturday, my actual birthday, my step daughter and a few of her friends took me to a Street fair / Block party in Sleepy Hollow, NY for live music, dancing and plenty of street-meat type food followed by a late night dinner on the banks of the Hudson River.

On Sunday, my step daughter & I went into the city for dinner and to Broadway to see “Come From Away”. I think it was discussed here earlier in the year. It’s a beautiful, touching story about the aftermath pf 9/11 with all the emotions: Sadness, humor, hope, and happiness amid the tragic day. I had seen it before a few years ago with DW (quite possible the last play we went to) and it’s ending it’s run on Oct 2nd.  Seemed like a perfect way to spend the day & end my bday weekend.

Now back to the grind.

Happy Birthday. Sounds like you had a great time.

I was thinking @Lionesssmade up the cute term cat "zoomies," but apparently it's a real thing.  I just asked my friend Dr. Google, and found several articles that discussed reasons such behavior, one of which was "Post Poop Zoomies."  They stated "Cats may get the zoomies after pooping in order to run away from an unpleasant smell."  This got me to thinking, wouldn't it be a funny sight if we humans did that??? 🤣😜

Now that explains why Lilo usually starts on the third level and goes nuts flying thru the house.  🫣

Keys - we have  2 cars both Subarus  and 4 keys being shared by 4 adults.  We make it work but we don’t have distinctive key rings as a result and there is always a key floating in my bag.  Went to the Subaru mechanic recently to collect car earlier than usual  after service.  Forgot mechanic leaves  key in car console for me so when I paid bill I automatically collected keys on counter as I was paying.  Came home, separated keys for DH and I.  About half an hour later, I went to go out again and the key I had wouldn’t open car.  Realised I had picked up someone else’s key. Drove straight back to mechanic to return key that wasn’t mine.  About an hour later, I went to drive our other car, that key wouldn’t open our car either. Realised I had managed to collect two different keys.  Back to mechanic again 🤦‍♀️

My daughter has her children unplug the toaster, coffee pot, etc when not in use.

A friend's house caught fire from a toaster. He placed a bag of groceries next to it and realized he forgot a bag at the store. While he was gone the bag collapsed and the toaster button was pushed down. The bag caught on fire.

They lost everything.
