Thank you Graham. It is particularly sad as he was only in his late 30s. He was our page boy 36 years ago. My cousins only child

I am so sorry, Sue.  My sincere condolences to you and your cousin.  Losing a child is the worst..my nephew died at the age of 32, and our best man lost his son at the age of 17 due to a horrific accident.  Our friends joined a group for grieving parents, which has helped some.  My sister, unfortunately, chose not to go that route.😢

I count myself as really lucky that I had my parents almost "forever". Dad was 85, mom - 93. Both -- cardiac arrest. Painful, shocking, but swift.

Sad as it is, "swift" or in your sleep is the best way to go.😔

I lost my Dad 22 years ago this past Sunday, he was only 67 and was sick the last 5 years of his life.  My Mom is 85 and has had a really tough year.  My parents always said, do what you can, while you can because you never know.  We try to remember that everyday.

My mom said the same thing to us after my dad died from his injuries on the job.  We didn't have much money back in 1981 when my dad passed, but we began saving, thanks to a friend who worked in a bank...she opened accounts for the 30 of us who began planning on going on a cruise.  It was our very first cruise, back in 1982, on the SS Norway.    Dad passed at the age of 61, mom, at the age of 92, but her last 10 years or so weren't good.  She had had 2 strokes;  after the second one, she lived in a Nursing Home, and eventually had some dementia.  I sure hope I go fast when it's time for me to leave this earth..

And it is amazing how our perception of what “old” is, changes over the years.

It's true. I always think it's so strange to look at pictures of my parents or grandparents when they were far younger than I am now. Somehow, when looking at them, I still think of them as always being older than me. Weird.

True that. My Dad died from complications associated with dementia. It was a long and tough haul, with my Mom bearing the worst of it - she did her best for years - was his sole caregiver till she knew it was time for outside help. Would try to jog his memory with showing him picture albums, taking him places they frequently visited, doing simple math problems on paper (he was always a wiz with numbers), etc.

It's so weird the way it works - like throwing every scrap of memory or knowledge from your brain into a big pot, stirring it all around till they're all mixed up. Then often totally unrelated and disjointed scraps of all that sometimes come forth as a partially coherent thought.  Like a jigsaw puzzle where none of the pieces actually fit together anymore.

My Dad once asked my daughter where she's living now, so she told him (she was still in High School), and then after he thought about it a bit he said, "I have a son that lives out there". NO connection between who she was and who I was. He used to say to me, "you're my buddy"...and, you know what? That became good enough.

I think about him every day and simply know - from things that have happened since his passing - that it just seems he's watching over me. Some very uncanny things have happened over the years. He was a WWII vet, and German prison camp POW for the last 5 months of the war. One time he was at the dinner table and had that very thoughtful look on his face. Then after a good many minutes finally said, "well, I'll tell you one thing...war is hell". That was it. Nothing else. I guess that said it all. To this day I wonder exactly what memory he was experiencing right then.

Your mom is right, live life while you can. My dad was 73 and my mom 91.  He died in his sleep, she, unfortunately, was killed while crossing the street. She was still very active and still driving!

I lost my mom at 64 and my dad at 85.  My father in law was 67 and my mother in law is still going strong in her 80s.  We learned to live your life while you can but don't go hog wild as you may be around for a while., it's all a balance.

I am reading a book now called The Measure about people getting strings that tell them how long their life will be.  Not too far into it yet but interesting how different people react, some looking some not.

Due to some bad weather, our flights got rerouted, and we didn’t get to the hotel until 1 am.  By that time, we are dead tired, and we are told…..You can go into the casino, and we will let you know when it is ready.

There was a large “Adult” entertainment convention going on, and there were a lot of them at the hotel and casino, so maybe that had something to do with the room delay.

Once a room was ready at 4 am, we did get upgraded to a much larger suite for our stay.

Wow, I can't believe that they did not have your room available at 1 am & you had to wait until 4 am. I guess housekeeping works 24/7 cleaning rooms as guest arrive.

I wonder what would have happened if you arrived at 4 or 5 pm.  Nice that they gave you an upgrade.

How does thirty years fly by so quickly????

I find that time flys by more quickly the older I get.  When I was a kid, a month seemed like a year. Now a year feels like a month.

A woman who won on the Amazing Race in 2019,I believe is a niece of someone that I know .My youngest daughters in-laws had friends ,a couple who were on Amazing Race many years ago .I rooted for those contestants.

A few years ago, there was a twin sister team on Amazing Race. I worked with one of the twins briefly years before. We never kept in touch afterwards but it was weird to see someone I remotely knew on a reality TV show. Afterwards, I wished I had kept in touch.

So much for my brush with fame.😃

Have you every been to Disney in Florida. It's really amazing the projections they can do on Cinderella's Castle.

Wow I have not seen that. Very impressive. Disney has always been in the forefront of visual technology.

Does anyone know Raye (as in RFerrington -- intentionally not tagging her) ?

She was a frequent poster on Bella's, as well as on the general board.

Never here, but I knew her "name" even before I've started this thread.

Just curious, since I've always appreciated her posts.

I had a major handsome teacher for 8th grade science.  At least I THINK it was science.  All I remember was HIM.  All of us girls just stared at him starting the first day of school and continued to do so for the rest of the semester.  He often sang in class and we girls just sat there swooning.  After his teaching stint that only lasted that one year, he became an actor and had parts in an old TV show starring George C Scott, "East Side West Side" as well as in "The Waltons" among other tv and movie parts.

He passed away in 2012 at the age of 79.

Rest in peace, Mr. Ratner (stage name Victor Arnold) Oh that face!

She's listed on the Bella Cruise but those reservations could have been made over a year ago.  I hope all is well.

LOL. Not only was your room not ready, the previous occupants hadn't even checked out!  Apparently, they were "distracted" and lost track of time. 😆

Only in Vegas.....

In the early 70’s the company that I was working for in Manhattan had many part-time employees who were trying to make it in show business. They came to NY from all over the US seeking fame and fortune.

Time goes by much too fast for me .Today I was talking by phone to a neighbor about New Years Eve.I told him that I was in Times Square only once to see 1963 come in .I cannot believe that it has been 60 years.
