What do you do if you can't cruise?

Thank you.  You made my day.  And as to “what will you do”, I’ll stay at home, cherish some wonderful cruise memories and wait this out.  The smartest people in the world are looking for a cure.  Until that happens, I’ll follow your lead and look forward to the day that we can all SAFELY cruise again.

Three of my cruises have been cancelled so far so I have to make do. I brought the beach home and sit by it on my lounge chair with my favorite brew and imagine.

I want one of those for MY backyard! Where did you get it?

Although enjoyable,  cruising is not the only form of recreation.   We enjoy our national parks system.  Seniors can buy a lifetime pass for pretty cheap.  There are 58 national parks and countless state parks. Everyone lives near one.  If you live near a big city there are many things to explore.  Museums, planetariums, zoos, concert venues,  interesting architecture,  ethnic restaurants, shopping districts all make for great day trips.  A lot of this stuff is closed now but the pandemic is not going to last forever.  Get outside your comfort zone and try something new.

You are correct there is more to life than cruising. Hopefully when things get back to somewhat normal I can go to the gym and start up with my dance lessons.

That's a neat picture on the fence.

We will open up our pool in two weeks.  We also live on some land, so walking around the property is kind of like a park.  We are in the pool every day of  the summer while we aren't working, so we'll make do with that.  Waiting to cruise again wouldn't be so bad if I knew when it would happen.  We have a cruise booked this September and I think that's a 50-50.  I haven't even booked any excursions because I don't want to get my hopes up.  Usually when I have a cruise booked, I am constantly looking at excursions and things to do.

We are going to road trip somewhere this summer, we will go to more rural states and visit national parks we would not normally go to. I have a travel trailer.

How true - cruising isn't the most important thing in my life and right now I would trade all of my future cruises to be able to hug and play with my grandson.

We have a pool and a hot tub. We are currently planting a garden, we have 2 dogs and we both love to read, play games and cards. We have been meaning to take a road trip cross country for a few years. The year is 2020.

We didn't start cruising until 10 years ago. Our happiness is based on our time together.

I realize that cruising is not the only form of recreation, but what is, in these times?

The national parks and state parks are closed.

Our museums, planetariums, zoos, concert venues, restaurants and shopping centers are all closed.

Can't go to ball games, bowling, lounges, bingo parlors, casinos, movies, gyms, race tracks, amusement parks, boxing or wrestling matches, school, church, or many other places.

They closed our lakefront, beaches and even public boat launches. You can't go to weddings or funerals or even to the hospital for non-emergency care. No parties , BBQs or seafood boils. No poker games. No horse shows, dog shows or competitions. The library is closed as are the golf courses.

Can't watch live ball games on TV and many new movies and series have been postponed. No festivals or parades. Some tourist areas are closed to the public and only let residents in.

I used to do most of these things besides cruising but I miss cruising the most and as soon as it is safe to cruise again I will be out of here.

I am lucky I live next to the Mississippi River because the bike path on the levee is about the only place I can go right now.

Since I can't cruise right now and our 09/13/20 sailing is in doubt, I go out in the back yard, and throw a big beach towel on our grandson's 12' diameter trampoline, with a big drink in hand(a FunShip Special if you want to know), listening to some JimmyBuffett on the  cd boombox, and just drift away, with the sun in my face, dreaming of the beaches of the Caribbean, listening to "One  Particular Harbor", one of my favorites of his.

I'm kind of disappointed that we haven't had a lot of warm weather. In fact, we've only had 1 day this past week where temps reached 90 F. That's usually the line of demarcation of when I switch from blue jeans to shorts. I like hot weather, don't you know....

And that's the way it is.....Thursday April 23,2020 in Arlington, Texas. Have a pleasant good evening.

If I can't go August 15, I'll look to Europe if it's open. Took a trip to London a couple years ago (about the same price as a solo cruise) and had a great time. Maybe a trip to Germany (home of my ancestors) is next on the menu. A long drawn out car trip wouldn't hurt me either.

As one poster said, some very smart people are working on a vaccine and we have a leader who is trying to cut all the red tape and regulations to bring it to us as soon as possible. Maybe within a reasonable amount of time we'll have a way to avoid this virus forever. I'm worried more about my country and whether it can survive an extended shutdown.

When I was a student, me and three of my fellow classmates stayed at my friend'd house for the entire summer playing video games and chilling in the swimming pool. Today I am a married man with children and all I can do aside from other ways of entertainment is to organize a kindergarden at home for my kids. So yeah, playing with kids, this is what I do if I have nothing else to do.. especially cruising

Depends on if the question is if you can't cruise, or can't leave the house.

When I can't cruise, I love a weekend somewhere. A big hotel in a downtown somewhere. It's fun to just get away and head to a different city, experiencing the local scene.

When I can't leave the home at all, crap it's terrible. I love being able to go somewhere. Even if local. In the meantime, walking, TV, video games. Whatever I can do to stay sane.
