Half Capacity Sailing

I am of difference opinion totally!!

The United States is being released in steps to protect us against a second surge.

I cannot see Carnival doing any cruises unless it is safe.  I also cannot see them sailing UNLESS the ship is to full capacity.

I think it will be up to the customer to make sure that they feel safe.

Nobody, not the WHO, CDC, the president, nor Joe Biden know what will happen in the next few months. I pray like SARS, MERS, and ZIKA the virus will dissipate but if it does not there is still a lot of hospitalizations and death I agree cruising will not resume.  Carnival will not make any money sailing half empty ships unless the great raise prices but right now the prices list for the late summer and fall are too low for Carnival to make money with just half the passengers.

Reducing capacity of the ship doesn't do much if they don't reduce capacity in the public areas. If they really did it i would expect every other seat in the theater to be empty. Every other seat in the comedy club as well. Every other bar seat. Every other table in the MDR and buffet. So as you cut the people in half you would also cut the seating in half.

It's not just "every other seat"....it's also "every other row".  It may end up at 25% seating...with 50% ship capacity.  I see this as compounding the problem.

Adding:  I'm still waiting for someone to come up with "the elevator solution".

That's easy. Close every other elevator and don't allow more than one elevator per floor at a time. 😂

That would be awesome.  I have no problem with social distancing.  I don't like crowds, so that's a huge plus to me.  No more arriving at a show 30 minutes early or having to search for a good lounge chair.

This is silly to think because the ship is half capacity everything will be easier.  The reason it would be 1/2 full as half the cabins would require theater seating to be likely every other row and skip two seats.   BTW how would you get to the center w/o touching or coming within 6 ft of the other's in the row.    Sounds great 1/2 people but now imagine all the deck chairs, the dining room the bars all spaced at 6ft.     Yeah sounds like lots of space but guess what everything like seats and such would be scarce too.

I think a lot of things will be paused when the next virus waves hit.  Cruises, being probably one of the last things to open up, I expect to be one of the first to be closed again.  I'm sure that will be lots of fun for the cruise lines when it happens, again and again. 🤪

I see cruise lines being made scapegoats again even though they aren't the problem.

No way they'll go that far. At that point they're telling  people "You all paid for entertainment but only half of you get it."

6 feet is too much.  That's not what's happening in restaurants and casinos. It's not going to happen on a ship. I could see them saying every other deck chair. Every other seat. Every other table. They aren't going to keep people 6 feet from each other. See the lines in a circle K where everyone is supposed to stand? they aren't 6 feet apart. More like 3 feet.

On the larger NCL ships you need to reserve seats for the production shows and some people don't get in.

But back to Carnival....they can do the same thing....make reservations necessary.....and some people won't get in.

The issue is this:  People think they will be "on the same ship" with only half the people.  Everything...I mean everything....will have to be adjusted for social distancing.  So it may be 50% of the people fighting for 25% of the seats.

But on NCL they aren't filling their ship at 50% and only filling their seats at shows at 25%. If you fill the shows at 25% you have to fill the ship at 25%.

You think 6 feet is too much....but the rules are 6 feet and everything will be set up for 6 feet.  It doesn't mean the passengers will comply.  And, if the ships do sail...I see lots of fights breaking out.

You missed my point.  You said people paid for the entertainment.  During normal times, on NCL not everyone is able to get into the theatre.  Sorry....there just won't be enough room for everyone...assuming everyone wants to go.

I got your point. Everyone on a Carnival Ship can't fit into the theater at the same time either. You're talking about reducing the number by 75% on Carnival but you're comparing it to an NCL theater filled at 100%. It's not the same thing.

I don't know if you've been out but people aren't doing 6 feet. Go to a convenience store. The marks on the floor where people are supposed to stand aren't 6 feet apart. It's more like 3. Go to a restaurant. The tables aren't all 6 feet apart. Go to a casino. They're doing every other slot machine. They aren't 6 feet apart. Maybe 2 feet. It's mostly for show. All they have to do is say we're reducing capacity by 50% in on the ship and in all venues and it sounds better. It makes people feel better.

A minimum of 6 feet is what the experts say. If that isn't happening where you live, perhaps look for new restaurants and convenience stores that care about their customers. Maybe like this Burger King? Carnival could adapt something with a new funnel hat design.

Or we have a different idea of measurements. Those people aren't six feet apart. I call that 3-4 feet. Imagine a 6 foot tall person laying on the ground between them. Then we're talking about the same thing.

Too funny!!

They make a 3 foot hat but then put the person in the middle of it. So they're actually only 3 feet away from the next person. That needs to be a six foot hat.

What people do is their own business....but Carnival will need to comply with rules.  I see, as far as the theatre, reservations and reserved seating.

FYI...I've been out.  Where I live (NYC) it's virtually impossible to keep 6 feet apart, but we try.  For us, it isn't for show...it's for survival. DH and I are covid survivors.

So....Mary & Jack are trying to do the right thing, wearing masks, keeping away from strangers.

Along comes Jimmy, had a few too many drinks, no mask, and is in front of Jack for "some line".  Jimmy turns around and tries to talk to Jack.  Jack asks Jimmy to put on a mask.  Jimmy gets insulted and "disses" Jack and Mary.  Jack wants to be macho...they start a heated argument...and before you know it...fists are flying.

That's why.

I certainly see many fights & arguments breaking out on cruise ships due to the much warranted need for social distancing. Let's use 'masks' as one example; the escalating tension over masks has spurred protests, rebellions, fights, shootings, and even one fatal shooting. There will be plenty of fighting. Its inevitable....

And it depends on where you're from. My county had 346 total covid cases. 24 deaths.

You seem to confuse reality with fear mongering.

If Carnival conforms to social distancing...the seating arrangements in the MDR, buffet, comedy clubs, theatres, lido etc will change.  People don't seem to realize that....they think it will just be an uncrowded ship...lol

For example, to keep 6 feet between lounge chairs on the lido...2 out of 3 will be eliminated.  So you have 1/3 the chairs....and 1/2 the population.  It's still gonna be hard to find a seat.

And the virus is airborne.  A good sneeze goes a long way.

Enjoy your cruise!

BTW...I'm not anti-cruise.  I'm pro-enjoyable cruise.  What's enjoyable for you, isn't for me.

Adding:  I'm still waiting for someone to come up with "the elevator solution".

You will never change the non believers. Look at the signs at the rallies outside of state Capitols, what AR 15 and nazi flags have to do with Corona is beyond me. Some of these same people who have bunkers with 6 months of food in case there is a invasion or "pandemic" The irony is overwhelming.

I don’t see too many people risking getting arrested and/or kicked off a ship for not wearing a mask if one is required. It is far more likely, as posted countless times on this forum, that if Carnival requires masks people who don’t want to wear them won’t cruise.

Personally I never wear a mask unless I am required to wear one. For example, Costco requires them and since I like Costco, I wear one when I go there. Same would apply with Carnival or any cruise line for that matter. If they want me to wear a mask, I will wear one. But when we go out to eat, which we have done a dozen times now since Florida allowed it, we never wear a mask and most other guests don’t wear them either, although the staff at every restaurant we have been to wears them without exception.

Bottom line in my book is if you want to cruise on Carnival, you have to play by their rules, whatever they may be.
