Live from the first cruise in the Pandemic

Thank you German cruiser! Your trip sounds lovely.

If these first attempts at sailing again bring me hope – with 3 cruises still on the books – I can only imagine the relief the thousands of crew members sitting in their home countries feel, knowing that ships are slowly beginning to stir again.

As for the QR code.  We went to a country restaurant last week, tables miles apart, with the code card at the table which you access through your mobile.  But the people at a neighboring table apparently didn’t have a phone or couldn’t make the code work – so the staff brought a large chalk board with all the menu items written on it. A neat solution though clearly not practical with 1000 passengers!

Exactly this.....

Again, thanks to the OP for this timely review....there is hope.  🙂

Hi Germancruiser.  You are getting so many questions!  We are all here feeding from a fire hose!😄  Here is one more.  Can you comment on the crew members?  Do they seem ok?  Happy?  Overworked?  They are of course a large and very important part of the return to cruising operations.  Thank you!

Who do I have to speak with to get a German Passport in order to sail again???

LOL

Continue to enjoy your sailing @Germancruiser

bon voyage

Well first, Bo, you'd have to immigrate. 😁
Which might be a little difficult in the midst of a pandemic.

And your US passport would need to be within 6 months of expiration.  This is a problem since passport renewals have been held up indefinitely.  Luckily my dw sent her's in in January and got the new one in about two weeks.  Just before all Hell broke loose!

What can you tell us about the mask situation.  Are they being worn?  When?  Also, what about using the elevators?  Is everyone wearing masks on the elevators?

As for dinning......  how are the tables spaced?

mnocket, you wil find in post 28 that Miaminice translated the mask rules that are on their website.  Very helpful!

Germancruiser, I can't thank you enough for your wonderful and insightful posts!  Cruising has always been my "happy place", and since I can't cruise yet, travel too far, or even go to a restaurant for inside dining, I've been spending a good amount of time on CC, and your blogging is giving so many of us so much hope!  Enjoy the rest of your cruise;  I'm enjoying following along!  Stay safe, and stay healthy!!

That is my point.. many people can touch a card left on the table and I'm not seeing any difference to touching the menu!   I guess if the card is sellotaped to the table then the phone can be held above it....?

Celebrity has the app that contains the menus.  If they roll the app out to all the ships then everyone would have the menus on their phone or tablet.

You Don t need a german passport for doing these first Cruises with Mein Schiff 1 and 2.

I am Danish, and it is No problem with a Danish passport. You should only have allow to travel to Germany from your country.

So you scan the QR code at the  table but then how do you get the information on the screen?

Does it it connect via Bluetooth to a central transmitter on the ship.

I always put my phone on flight mode so I do not get any charges

Well, you don´t need to touch it - as some mentioned above.

However, if they do it according to the German regulations also in place for restaurants etc. (and it sounds like it) tables and everything on the tables is sanitized every time after a guests leave.

That being said, by now it´s a well known fact that risk of contact contamination with Covid is minimal - contrary to gastrontestinal deseases.

German restaurants use laminated menues that are disinfected immediately after the guests have made their choice. You can feel safe at any time.

Thank you so much for your live report  GERMANCRUISER !!

Enjoy the rest of your cruise to nowhere and take care

Yeah I read it.  That was the post that prompted my question.  It laid out the policy.  My question was about compliance with the policy.  Thanks for trying to help🙂

Wondering if this ship has a casino and, if so, how they are handling social distancing at the tables and slots.

Appreciate your time and efforts.😃
