For a really distorted view of Cruising.....In Pictures!

The author was showing her ignorance.  I read the first half and skimmed the rest.

I did chuckle that on one hand she complained about the number of senior citizens on cruises but then turned around and complained about the number of noisy children.  Bias much?

That article goes on forever! Did anyone get to the end? I sure didn't, but I did read a long way.
Full of bias, inaccuracies, and outright lies.

You said it all, Ruth.  I could not agree more.

Children are kept busy with children's programs and I rarely see them.  When I see them they are not too noisy.

I agree, that's the way it is on HAL.  From her photos it looked like cruises on Disney and Carnival, definitely not HAL haha!

No, I couldn't get to the end of the article as it was quite unfair and biased.  You can always find extremes on either side of the normal.  The author simply did that with her comparison of the ideal and some extreme examples of overcrowding/things she didn't like/unrealistic expectations.

Unfortunately, anyone today can be an author on sites like that and there aren't any real editors who will demand accountability and fairness about what is written.

It just goes to show that today's 'reporters' are really not going out and investigating the topics they are 'reporting' on.  Their editors give them the topics to write about and told how to slant it.  I no longer trust anything in the newspapers or on tv.  It's all editorialized.  There is no actual reporting involved.  Bring back Walter Cronkite

I don't see anything wrong with what the author (and that's 'author' not journalist) is doing here.  They're comparing the 'brochure' version of cruising to reality.  Who hasn't looked at a brochure and wondered...'who are those people and why don't I ever see them on my ships'.

Their take on the entertainment is a little harsh and I do think ships are generally pretty clean, but all the other points where they compare 'brochure' to reality is pretty much right on.  As experienced cruisers we know not to put too much stock in the glamorous photos in brochures, but if you've never been on a cruise before, let's face it you're going to be in for a rude awakening on most cruise ships.

I don’t know this website and it’s not certainly one I will visit.

Distorted?  Look at the comment on casinos and no tables.  Prinsendam had the smallest casino in the fleet and it was more spacious than the pic the author showed and it did have tables.  I haven’t been on a cruise line (I’ve sailed more than HAL) where there weren’t tables to play in the casino.

Someone took a cranky pill when they wrote this IMO.  Once I read this gross exaggeration I couldn’t take anymore.

If they think cruise ships are tight for room size then the author better not book standard rooms in some European or Japanese hotels 😉.  Perhaps if they had read the description of the room they wouldn’t have been in for such a big surprise.

Might be true for Seabourn or Windstar but not for any cruise line with significant numbers of kids.

I managed to make it through the article.  Toward the end, her comments about seasickness and pirates were over the top.  There was no mention of the different remedies for seasickness, and she led the reader to believe that everyone would be affected at some point in their time on a cruise ship.

I agree that she is an author/opinion writer not a reporter or journalist.  There is a big difference.

At least, one thought I had while reading her observations,  she probably won't be adding to the crowds on a cruise ship any time soon.  -- more room at the pool, casino and showroom!

Very over the top, amateurish, and complete generalizations.

I got very tired of her formulaic "You may have expected THIS, but you will get THIS instead -- of course this varies by cruise ship."

So what has she actually said?  Nothing.

Hey... I just took it at it's face value... Tongue in cheek, over the top.   But you know something?   I am going through Soooo  much travel withdrawal at this point I would HAPPILY take any of her  "but you get this" scenario's!  😁

My thoughts as well.  One of the pictures was, I think, of an NCL ship.
