Another possible CDC no-sail extension?

I am hoping that the testing becomes more widely available soon. I'd bet that if testing is required for cruise travel someone enterprising will find a way to make it easy and cheap or free. FedEx the samples overnight to a local lab or something like that. I'm told the samples can be tested up to 24 hours after they are taken.

I would think the US lines could follow the protocol that European lines that are currently sailing. They have rapid testing at the pier prior to boarding. As you said. someone will come up with that here.

a business also has a responsibility to be ethical and stand behind the done deal you agreed to when you accepted final payment. Believe it or not, that is a binding contract. If you have to cancel do to circumstances that makes it unavailable is one thing, to do it to make more money is probably illegal. They get away with it now, they set a precedence and what’s to stop them from doing it every cruise? As the ships fill up, why not just cancel the people who booked at a lower price and resell it at a higher price?

I don’t think the loyalists and early birders would stand for it, at least in this “me” attitude which seams to reared it’s ugly head during this pandemic.

I agree with your post. However, just to throw this out, what about the situation when the cruise line decides to charter a ship and cancels all of the previously made binding contracts for the only reason of making more money? Maybe charters should have to be booked before a sailing is opened up for reservations.

That’s nice but I’d rather live in my area. Lol. I had a Satellite office in Hollywood for many years. Didn’t care for the traffic. I was born in Miami but was out of there pretty quickly.

My brother and his wife are probably 20 minutes from PC. They used to grab those cheap sailings that would often pop up in email.

I agree: no passengers allowed to book inside cabins. Lock the bookings. Offer the inside cabins a chance to pay more to upgrade.
They don’t want to base the cabins on money spent on a cabin. There are inside and ocean view cabins that cost more than a balcony because of how many the cabin holds.
They also want their casino players as most of them spend way more than their cabin was worth.

Yes that is definitely one part of it. The panel also recommended a first test prior to arrival. So in theory everyone would be tested twice before boarding the ship.

Perhaps I have conveyed my thoughts wrong. I never said or meant raise prices... my example was to select who gets to cruise on the fully sold ship.

Once I got on a carnival cruise, doors to cabins standing open. I went to the cabin I booked, unpacked, shut the door. Found out I had been moved. To carnival was a upgrade, but not to me. Used a carnival pvp to book who told me, read the cruise contract. In order to board you have to click and agree to their terms. It says they have the right to change your cabin.

I'm sure to be a binding contract you probably have to also click to agree to rcl terms and conditions. I'm betting in the small print it says they can change whatever they want. Ports can be changed, your sailing, your cabin. Who reads that whole contract, most click and agree to get to boarding pass.

Testing before and at boarding... if rcl does that, that answers my question about doing a b2b. Yikes.

Mandatory insurance, another yikes

Going on a cruise vacation with these types of restrictions in place in not a vacation. This is for addicts who are addicted to the travel planning process and point accumulation process.

Is that a recent change? We live in Florida, have annual passes, and have had as many as 6 reservations pending at one time. A couple of those are tied to a weekend we are spending at Disney next month. Maybe it makes a difference if you are staying in a Disney hotel?

I too am a Florida resident and when I log into my disney experience it will only allow me three reservations for entrance to a park at one time. As soon as I use one another will be available. I don't even know how many years we have been annual pass holders. being a Florida native I can't tell you how many times we have been but it's the finances deal. Once a year would be more than enough for me!

Which restrictions are you referring to?  The ship-excursion only policy?

You are correct, it is an addiction for many.  I've been on more than 60 cruises and I know the feeling, but this whole thing has made me reevaluate my priorities and what is really important in my life, (and cruising is low on  the list.)

I have a L&S Oasis cruise booked for November 2021 - plenty of time to see how cruising operates when it eventually resumes.  If I like what they have to offer, I'll continue to cruise and if not, then I won't.  Either way my life will go on.

Cruise stocks are up in futures trading this morning in anticipation of positive news from the CDC.  According to CNBC just now, Barclays upgraded cruise stocks and they are up in futures trading this morning while the general market is down.  Hopefully the no-sail order news will be out soon -- whether good or bad -- at least we'll know something.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/25/stocks-making-the-biggest-moves-in-the-premarket-costco-astrazeneca-novavax-harley-more.html

"Carnival (CCL), Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH), Royal Caribbean (RCL) – Barclays upgraded the cruise line stocks to “overweight” from “equal weight.” The firm said that although the call may be early, the risk/reward profile is attractive and anticipating that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may make positive comments about a return to cruising when it addresses the issue within a few days."

I am as well.  We are near Home Depot off SR 44

Well, add about 15-20 minutes extra time to our ride to PC. I play around on some of those roads around you. Turnbull, Glencoe, Pioneer, on my motorcycle rides to places like JB’s and Goodrich. I avoid the Interstate as much as possible. We live up off 40 and Timber Creek (Breakaway). We just bought a lot in Plantation Bay, Prestwick Estates and hope to start building in the next year. We ran out of garage space here with all our toys. The new house will have two 3 car garages.

Most all of them.

I am afraid once they start this it will never go away.

Which ones refer to those who are "addicted to the travel planning process?   Can't say that I would plan any more or less with the restrictions I've read.

You probably don't have to do much research into independent tour operators or concern yourself with renting a car and planning where you are going to go with it.
