Odds of NCL resuming most cruises by 2022

Just curious as to why you think these cruises would be capped at 50% occupancy if all staff and passengers are vaccinated and they do covid testing pre boarding?

I believe that was a rumor going around a while back that once they start up that capacity would be limited to a certain %. Regardless of the vaccine, I believe that mask and social distancing will still be required until the virus is no longer a threat and that will mean limiting the capacity because there is no way they can accomplish social distancing at full capacity. This all all just my opinion however.

I'll take that.  Got action from me, too.  Who's going to hold the bet?

I'll take that bet, too. If I win and NCL does start back up, the loser pays me $1,000. If I lose, I pay the winner $1. That's right, just one US dollar. You see, I'm not so bold as to predict absolute disaster. Only the foolish do. 🤣

Now if they do limit the number of people on the ship, then how do they decide?

Do they go:

Suites, Mini-Suiites/Club Balcony, Balcony, Oceanview, Inside, Studio? Do they do it by price?

Most expensive to least expensive? I know that in this instance I would probably be alright with my Club Balcony but what about those who paid less than me and are in an inside cabin? Not exactly fair . . .

It will be interesting to see how they board.  I'm sure plenty of people will be running to the 'fairness police' about many things...it'll be a planning nightmare, and cruising is going to be a whole new experience regardless who survives long enough to sail.

I know folks will "fact check" the heck out of me but I just heard this morning from a medical expert (on a certain cable news channel), that 50% of the medical community believe that natural T-cell immunity is being way under reported & under estimated. He said this may account for 40% of the U.S. population being "naturally" immune from covid, in the not too distant future. Combine that with the vaccine administration (shots in arms) getting better & better, i.e. more & more of the U.S. population are getting vaccinated (another 40%), he claimed that we (U.S.) could reach herd immunity by April.

No "flaming please", just posting what I truly heard.

No flaming, just support. I like your posts generally, and this one is no different. Since my wife and I  already had Covid and recovered, it truly makes me wonder how many people are like we are, have beaten the virus and are now somewhat immune to it. Thanks for the reporting, I think you're right!

Always nice to see optimistic predictions.  I would feel better if that doctor was an infectious disease specialist rather than an abdominal surgery specialist though.

Unfortunately, I believe all this is is  the news letter just copying the schedule of the sailings that are listed as available for booking off the NCL web site.   NCL has continued to show and sell cruises ever since this has begun, then cancelling them at about the 3 month before departure date. For instance,  there is no way in the world the June cruises they are showing are going to sail, That's just slightly more than 90 days from now.  They will be cancelled in a few weeks.  This Cruise Industry News is not providing actual news.  It is only copying and pasting from NCL.

We hope so too! We have 2 European cruises booked, a 10 day in 2022 and a 16 day in 2023. Thinking positive ☺️

I remember reading months about about the passengers on the Diamond Princess and how may that we not symptomatic but still carried the disease.   https://theprint.in/health/covid-cases-from-diamond-princess-cruise-ship-reveal-pattern-of-disease/426298/

Half the infected persons had no symptoms.

That is exactly what it is, completely useless information that you can find anywhere. You or I could come up with the same thing. They do it for all of the lines the same way.

I have the 12/26/2021 NCL Encore booked and I think it will be back to normal by then, well maybe at least with some capacity cap at most.

I got a feeling with the Johnson&Johnson shot coming up soon, we will have more than enough shots to get everyone who wants one, one by the 4th of July. Will we still have cases afterward, sure, this will probably be a regular occurrence now just like the flu.

Its been really bad and I feel that the worst is now behind us. But we must still be careful.

Hope everyone stays safe and we all get back to our normal lives and vacations soon!

It's worth nothing! The key part of the article is the following, as others have noted in their own words:

Data is based on announced deployment, cruises for sale, and all information is subject to change due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Or said differently -

"we needed more clicks so we posted an article that made it seem like we have new info about when cruising resumes but in reality you could have gotten the same info about the first scheduled cruises to sail by looking at the cruise line websites"

Once the public realizes we are in a different situation than we were in in March 2020, things may change.

We have prevention protocols, vaccines, treatments, plenty of PPE and testing. All the stuff we didn't have in March 2020, we have now. The situation today is radically different than it was last year.

If new cases and deaths continue to fall, and vaccines keep getting administered, I think cruises will be sailing from Florida by August, at the latest.  Maybe even June.
