With all of the cases of Covid that are breaking out again,  what do you think are the chances of the CDC and then cruise lines reinstating the mask rules and social distance rules.  These new cases are among people who have been vaccinated so the totally vaccinated ship could be a problem for CDC.

Two passengers tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on 7/23 aboard Crystal Serenity sailing the Bahamas (7/17-24):
https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2792216-two-covid-cases-based-on-testing-today-on-serenity/
They were fully vaccinated and tested negative upon embarkation. Other than quarantine for close contacts until testing negative, there were no disruptions for other passengers.

While information is sparse, a site that is not particularly fond of cruising gives details that RCI’s Jewel of the Seas reports that 2 passengers initially tested positive around July 17 (sailing Cyprus and Greece), and now at least 6 crew (as of 7/21) tested positive. The article says the information was confirmed by an anonymous (to the public) crew member. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2791538-covid-on-the-jewel-july-10-sailing-and-thoughts-on-the-sailing/

As of July 20, RCI’s Independence of the Seas reported 4 crew members tested positive, and more than 2 dozen were quarantined at the time the article was written. Their first sailing is set for August 15 from Galveston.

Nieuw Amsterdam is currently “orange” (on 7/21 it was “yellow” but when updated on 7/22 went back to “green”). It is unclear why, as no announcements have been given to passengers. A couple of passengers have been tested with negative results, according to this post:

NO, unless the cruise line makes unvaccinated people identifiable, or segregates them.

Israel has discovered that vaccines begin to  wane after 6 months.

Unless boosters are eventually available for everyone , "breakthrough" cases will become more frequent.  There is a concern that "long Covid" may occur on some breakthrough cases.

-The small UnCruise ship Wilderness Explorer in Alaska had seven fully vaccinated people (4 passengers and 3 crew) with mild, cold-like symptoms tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The ship had been in Ketchikan last weekend and the passengers had planned to isolate in Juneau, and the crew aboard the vessel.

-A Viking Jupiter shares their experience from the July 20 sailing (3 positives, 71 quarantined...see especially Post 16, 64 & 69). On previous sailings, there had been communication to passengers if there had been a case, but not on this sailing. All passengers on Viking are vaccinated.

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2792980-on-viking-jupiter-we-are-not-feeling-safe/

from the Thread: “There were 3 COVID+ persons and at least 2 of them had been on a bus the previous day on a long excursion. Viking, as per their protocals, quarantined the entire bus loads of people until they could get a negative test. Viking is also required to alert the government of Iceland, which they did who required that they all remain in quarantine until their health officials could board the ship and preform additional tests - nasal, not spit, on all of the quarantined passengers. This was the night before disembarkation, around 8pm.  Most of those passengers with early morning flights missed their flights and Viking was working to get them home on later flights. I'm hoping that all with their 3rd negative tests are either continuing to travel or are home....

-Another previous Viking Jupiter passenger shares some thoughts after missing a port in Iceland:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2793060-our-experience-viking-jupiter-with-covid-positive-passenger-tours-and-packing-list/

see the linked review in the Thread, as well, to read about quarantine in Iceland for close contacts.

-See Post 21 and following for SARS-CoV-2 positive passengers’ experiences. They were aboard Carnival Breeze, disembarked 7/29, and are in a quarantine hotel at their own expense. No announcement was made to other passengers. I know some lines, Celebrity for example, have been notifying passengers when cases arise. Although the CDC has several Carnival ships coded Orange, public reports of positive cases  aboard Carnival seem rare (see Post 105 for what Carnival told this passenger). With HAL being in the Carnival family, I wonder what their policy will be (Nieuw Amsterdam has currently been coded Orange for 2 days straight—should update again this afternoon—but no announcements have been made. Perhaps it’s related to the test sailing and not the current sailing?).

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2793141-vista-now-orange/

As HAL cruising resumes, I find that seeing how situations are handled in various places and by various lines has been helpful in knowing what to expect going forward.

Would you please stop reducing the font size in your posts. It is very difficult to read. At least use the default size, which is adequate.
You have had a few posts lately that are in the default size, and those are appreciated.

Thank you.

Will do my best, thanks for the feedback! Because I don’t want CC to time out & lose my post, I type longer information in another document and paste it. But when I do, the font doesn’t look right:>) So I re-size it to the largest size available. I’ll try and see if a different Font has better results.

All the Best!

Ever since CC moved to this new programming, I haven't had a problem with timing out at all. Both posts (haven't done a long one in a long time), and reading threads where there is a lot of catching up to do, were a problem in the past, but haven't been under this new format.

Or, what I used to do under the old programming, was hit 'refresh' every once in a while. That stopped the timing out.

Hopefully, that's a little reassurance that you should be fine typing to the thread in the first place. Might make things easier all around.

Thanks for the tips!

In the meantime, for reading previous posts, text size can be increased on computer internet browsers by using the Zoom tool that varies from browser to browser, but usually has a % to increase + or decrease - . Many phones also have a text size adjustment feature.

I do have my browser set at 110% as SOP; it's just not nearly enough with the posts you pre-type. It's fine with the default setting you have also used.

I also know that reading can be increaseddecreased on an individual basis, using the arrow keys with either or the alt or ctrl keys (which one slips my mind at the moment).
But I operate under the principle: If you don't ask, you don't get!

-As of yesterday’s update by the CDC, Nieuw Amsterdam continued to be coded Orange for a third straight day, for reasons unknown to the public.

-Six passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s “Adventure of the Seas” tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 as part of routine, end-of-sailing testing (7/24-31 sailing).

“‘Four of the guests, who are not traveling together, are vaccinated, three are asymptomatic and one has mild symptoms,’ Royal Caribbean said in a statement provided by Sierra-Caro. ‘Two of the guests, who are in the same traveling party, are unvaccinated minors and asymptomatic.’..The six passengers and their traveling parties will be flown home from Freeport, where the ship is docked, on Friday (yesterday). Sierra-Caro noted the passengers will be medically evacuated and taken door to door from ship to home via private transport to a private plane and then home. The transportation will come at no cost to the passengers....”

When you copy and paste and the font is small, you can select all and increase the font.  It would really make it more readable for many. 😉

Thanks! It was a glitch with my phone maxing out the size...tried another way and edited it, and it seems to have worked with the larger font this time around after trying once again. 😉🤞

YAY. 🙂

I don’t use a phone for CC but on my Ipad or laptop, if I select all and then choose size (circled in green), I can increase the size of the print of anything I copy and paste or post 😉.

Thanks for the tip! That is indeed what I was using after selecting all after the copy & paste, but on my phone the size would max out at 12 and I couldn’t keep scrolling (unlike my computer). I tried various things, and “double tapping” got it to progress to the larger available sizes. Yay! Thanks for everyone’s patience.

I totally agree.  Even before the Delta variant, and now the Lambda variant that apparently is as bad or worse, but not getting much written about it, we decided both the crew and passengers had to be fully vaccinated.  Now, with the breakthrough cases, we'll probably wait a while longer.

The link for the cases aboard Serenity (7/24 sailing) was left out of the previous post (364):

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2793638-two-positive-cases-serenity-724-cruise/

One of the positive passengers aboard Adventure of the Seas’ 7/24 sailing details their experience here:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2793830-i-tested-positive-for-covid-on-adventure-724-sailing/

It is well worth a read. The passengers who have tested positive aboard Royal Caribbean and Celebrity have reported vastly different scenarios than those aboard Carnival (one example is that Carnival passengers in isolation have even reported room service charges, perhaps this was a mistake). See this

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2793777-thank-you-carnival-for-going-the-955-route/

and also Post 356 above in our Thread here. Carnival usually doesn’t inform passengers (and after reading multiple posts, apparently some crew, too), while RCI does inform, for the most part. A major difference is the current policy of isolation (quarantine hotel at passenger’s expense vs. medical transport directly home at cruise line’s expense. For now.).

Some passengers aboard the 7/24 Nieuw Amsterdam sailing reported being lumped together in port shuttle buses with passengers from other lines (making some uncomfortable, as Serenade of the Seas was coded Yellow at the time, and not all were following mask guidance in Sitka). Something of which to be mindful when transportation into town is needed.

That was my understanding, also.  But, someone on our Christmas cruise roll call mentioned that she would be cruising with family including a 6 year old grandchild.  So, which is it?

It could be both. As soon as the Pfizer EUA for children ages 5 to 11 (the next group) is approved, you would begin to see 5 to 11 year olds on cruises about a month and a half after they get first doses. The approval is said to be coming in September or October, so a 6 year old on a Christmas Cruise is totally possible and within their current policy because it does not define an age, just 14 days past second dose.

We have a Christmas cruise booked with an 11 year old. We have insurance and a land-based plan B if the EUA takes longer than expected or if HAL changes their policy and we have to refund or rebook. We are only interested in 100% vaxxed cruises.

This decision is further solidified now that Delta is has arrived and I am reading current threads on the RCL, CCL, and Celebrity boards where they are trying to juggle the V/UV and all the policy/testing changes. People are pissed. Carnival is scrambling this morning and just changed their policy this morning to everyone ages 2 and up masked in all indoor spaces starting on August 7. Lines are also having issues with ports that require 100% vaccinated passengers, so people booked on the Allure of the Seas in two weeks and beyond are being told if they are not fully vaccinated they cannot embark because the ship cannot make a port call without that requirement satisfied, regardless of who gets off in port. It is my belief that having everyone vaxxed (even if that means some ages of children cannot sail), it makes logistics easier for the cruise line and I imagine it reduces the amount of anxiety onboard. I know I would be anxious on a cruise with unvaxxed passengers and kids, and I am a parent of one. This is just my personal opinion, and I know that everyone has a different comfort level depending on their own health.

Having just spent some time on the Carnival boards, let me correct that date. It is August 14, not August 7th. And yes people are pissed; that is an understatement.

You have to wonder of other lines that are part of Carnival Corporation will also soon adopt a similar policy.

Not to beat a dead horse, but there are two dates. One for masking and one for presenting a negative test at check-in. I was referring to the indoor masking policy in my post, which indeed is August 7. The testing requirement begins August 14.

From the CCL updated website:

MASKS & PHYSICAL DISTANCING (Effective with sailings departing August 7, 2021)

We strongly encourage all guests to wear face masks when indoors, particularly guests who are unvaccinated, including children under the age of 12 who should wear masks in public areas, except when eating or drinking. All guests age 2 and older will be required to wear face masks in elevators and in designated indoor entertainment areas, all retail shops, and in the casino, except when eating or drinking. Guests will be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in our main dining rooms and in the Lido Buffet area and occasionally in other designated areas where larger number of guests may congregate (signs will be posted). Additionally, masks are required at any indoor activity with children under 12 years, (i.e., Build-A-Bear®, Family Harbor, Sky Zone®)
