First fully vaccinated flights Florida to NY

I am not so sure of that. People not living in the US (Europe, Asia, Australia) travel all the time to cruise from other countries with no qualms.  It wouldn't be much different if US citizens had to travel to another country to sail the Caribbean.   Freeport is only 86 miles from W. Palm Beach.  Not exactly a big hurdle to overcome to make it easy to get there with a high speed ferry.

There is a big difference for international travellers. Flights to FLL and MIA are generally much lower cost than FPO and NAS. There are also many more routing options.

Once the reviews start coming in (if they are favorable) we may see some of the fence-sitters take the plunge. Flying out of Boston I can get to a lot of these places non-stop, so the only question is whether I can fly in the day before or on the day of the cruise with time to spare. For Florida departures we always fly in the day before but for the islands I would consider taking the risk of flying in the same day. At this point it's all hypothetical for me, I have nothing booked for this year.

Yea, the flights are the big issue. Going from any major city to MCO, or MIA is easy and there are usually multiple non stop flights, so it would be a big change an a lot of extra "what ifs" added for flying to the islands.

If I have to fly to a Caribbean island to board a cruise I would just book an all inclusive or an Airbnb and stay on the island. Too many restrictions and rules on a cruise ship. It's just not worth the extra effort.

I agree. Why fly to an island to take a cruise to be nickled and dimed, when i can stay at an all inclusive resort on the island.

These cruises leaving from Nassau and Bermuda aren't going any place exciting.  A beach is a beach and Bermuda would be my destination not 2 days at Coco Cay.

Plus not everyone likes 2 sea days to start their cruise, potentially with fall/winter weather.

Granted 10-14 day cruises are not for a lot of people but the 2 sea days especially in the Winter are perfect for us..

For over 21 years we have sailed from New York and New Jersey on cruises that were everywhere from 10 to 14 days which visited all the usual Eastern Caribbean ports as well a the ABC's.

We have an eleven night from Cape Liberty in January that visits

San Juan, Puerto Rico
From 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
From 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM
St. Johns, Antigua
From 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Castries, St. Lucia
From 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Basseterre, St. Kitts
From 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

As far as your not wanting to spend a day or two before you are in warm weather ??
On an 11 night cruise from Jersey ( which is only a few hours drive for us and millions in the N.Y. area ) We spend the ENTIRE TIME WE HAVE FOR OUR CRUISE ON THE SHIP..

We have done the Florida and Puerto Rico flight thing several times as well but no longer.

If we had to fly to Florida and still had only 11 nights to spend we would have to spend at least 2 or 3 total days out of the eleven in airports and planes along with the added costs of flights and hotels.

We would rather spend our time and money ON a ship even if two days are spent indoors .

We are glad we are lucky enough to have the choices, however we do and miss when we could sail from the New York and the New Jersey area on Celebrity and HAL to the Caribbean..

I agree. I sailed from Cape liberty once and that spoiled me. I will no longer fly to Florida for those 7 day run of the mill itineraries and doing a B2B and having to waste a day returning to the embarkation port is worse than the 2 cold days at sea.  If we can't sail from NY or NJ we will fly one way to Puerto Rico and do the reposition cruise. In the past the flights to PR have been less than the flights to Ft Lauderdale and I don't mind flying in a day earlier to spend time in Puerto Rico.

Yet we always have to make a connection to get to FLL from BOS, or fly into MIA. Getting to Port Everglades is a PITA.

Those days that are too cold are no real problem'

Day one on the ship is almost always spent reacquainting or getting newly acquainted with the ship, unpacking, getting a few drinks, some food then prepare for dinner and the casino..

By noon the next day we have sailed several hundred miles to the South and almost always are walking the deck enjoying the warmer breezes of the South.

The last night is spent packing, dining and bidding farewell to our money and the casino.

Sadly many of those questioning authority in this pandemic are doing so from a position of ignorance or insufficient understanding.

Knee jerk rejection of authority does not contribute to problem resolution.

There are people on these boards who question and it is hardly out of either ignorance or insufficient understanding.

Thank you!!

Evaluating and understanding the “response” and/or action plan of the CDC is not rocket science for many of us.
It is hardly a “knee jerk” reaction when we have watched the lunacy unfold for many many months, and have viewed multiple contradictory policies.

Getting to FLL from PVD is a breeze. You should consider it.

So, again, what is the purpose of a vaccine.  You apparently have a plane full of vaccinated people and yet the mask.  Why get a vaccine if we still have to wear a mask?????

Don't forget to add in that everyone with the vaccine is scared of those without the vaccine

More like "annoyed with" and/or "angry at". Certainly not "scared of". And "disappointed in", of course.

PVD is at least two hours drive from where we are in NH. At least with BOS we can take the bus to the airport and park for free.

Three tourist were shot in Times Square NYC last week. One was a little girl shopping for toys. Baltimore is no more dangerous than any of the ports that ships call on.

It is actually. Baltimore was doing 300 murders a year in the 90s when NYC was doing 2000 a year. NYC will never do 2000 a year again. Baltimore is doing 300 once again and has less people than the 90s. They can't get the crime down.

And then we have posts like this that claim an unexplained expertise while making an unsubstantiated claim of insanity within the CDC.

My expertise has been documented numerous times on these boards (not that i need to submit my credentials)

If you do not see the some of the indefensible  "action items" put forth by the CDC, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your "expertise" to evaluate their performance.

Remind me.

I have no expertise and don't claim any.

If you would enumerate the "indefensible" action items of the CDC it might be helpful. Without that data, the post is just another CDC attack post.

All you have to do is look at the CSO for policies that fly in the face of common sense, and even the CDC's own guidance.  A public health agency can not have 2 sets of rules for the same activities and behaviors with the only definable difference in the 2 cohorts is that one is standing on dry ground, and the other is not. This is indefensible.

The director of a public health agency can not be caught misrepresenting data in a public forum (the open air transmission talk of the  last 2 days for example), and not be able to explain themselves.  This is indefensible.

These are just the 2 examples off the top of my head with out much thought.

Trust me NY is a mess. There are drug dealers who set up shop outside of Penn Station and were selling during what used to be morning rush hour. The Long Island Railroad had to build cones on top of the flat surface cement pillars to stop them from using them as a kiosk for the drug display.  Also NY is a target for terrorism.  I don't think anyone is looking to take down Baltimore.

Plus we live in the Northeast. 50 degrees is short sleeve weather for us especially if leaving in February.

Really? If you live near me in O-H-I-O and don't have the vaccine, I'd be happy to meet you maskless since I have been jabbed and am not scared of you or anyone else who's not  been!

Maybe you should delete your claim.....

Be specific. Tossing out generalities is meaningless and certainly does nothing to bolster your opinion.

What policies fly in the face of your "common sense"?

When the two cohorts are not in identical environments, of course there can be different rules. To argue that a ship at sea is the same as a facility on land is ludicrous and defies common sense.
