Remember: You need to cash out any winnings the day before your cruise ends.

Technically, it is the final night of the voyage.  If you are in the Casino that night, there are frequent announcements about cashing out before they close.  Often have extended hours that night, but depends on the crowd.  I did read once or twice about someone getting money back who was not in Casino last day/evening and forgot.  But, I would not want to count on that.

Lots of good advice here.

1. Currency depends on where the ship is or is going but charging to your account is probably the simplest although I do use USD when it is available..

Do they change the bill readers on each machine for the currency in use aboard?

You have the option of either charging it to your cabin or putting in cash.

I personally take cash and if I run out and want to play a bit more I charge it to the room.

Then later, I will take the cash I have brought with me and pay the charged amount because I really do not like having a balance on our account.

It is so easy to spend it in the casino when all you have to do is push the right buttons and its charged to your account. Be careful!

They either reprogram or replace.  I remember there was a delay in opening the casino on a transpacific from Sydney where they changed from one currency to another.

Thanks in advance, you can probably tell I've never gambled before either lol.

That is an interesting statement. If you are thinking of using the slot machines you may want to read up on how the modern casino slot machine games are played. You should also read up on the various card games and roulette rules and strategies.

And they frequently offer classes on the various table games.  Also, there are always casino personnel available to help you if needed.

No--And if the ship is operating in Australian waters the casino uses AUD$.  The machines I saw while down under only used shipboard account. When we left for the Orient they switched back to US$.

Also fun and a good way to limit your losses is to sign up for the slot and blackjack tournaments. Used to be $20 buy in.  And then ... well - you never know!

If you get a coupon book check to see if they have a BOGO for casino 🙂

Hi, I am fairly new to cruising and have never used the casino on-board. My friend and I have booked a cruise on the Regal Princess and fancied going to the casino, but I'm struggling to understand how it works? I see pictures of fruit machine type games which is I'm sure all we would have a go at. But how do you pay? Do you need £1 coins? $1 bills? Etc. I didn't want to get onboard and then need to buy cash, I'd rather take it with me. Thanks in advance, you can probably tell I've never gambled before either lol.

If you want to Double your money take it out of your wallet or purse, fold in half, put it back in your purse or wallet and leave the casino immediately......the casinos always always always win.........

If you give them enough money...

They will give your your next cruise at a discount rate, to give you the opportunity to give them more money.

It is very thoughtful of the cruiseline to do this!

As a blackjack dealer in vegas once told the table I happened to be sitting at:

"They didn't build these hotels on the backs of winners."

And, I thought I was negative at my job!

Along that line of thinking---On of my favorite dealers used to say "The less you bet, the more you lose when you win" 🙂  and you thought all the deep thinkers were politicians 🙂

Also, use the Casino as a free ATM with benefits.  If you get cash back or points on your credit card - those will be earned as well.  Go to a machine, create and charge your casino account, play a bit, cash-out and go to the cage to get cash.

All the machines on Princess will take US cash $1-$100.  As noted, payouts go on your casino account.  The tables (BlackJack and those other games) with a live dealer will take cash or can charge your casino account for chips.

NB:  the casino doesn't count your losses or even your winnings for future perks - only your "drop":

"For a casino, the drop is the money (or credit) exchanged for chips."

Also what you charged on the slots or other tables.  So the more you churn through - even if you never play much of it, will be counted towards your drop.

If I’ve understood this correctly…

So I could exchange $1000 for chips but not play a single game - then cash them in at the end of the cruise and that $1000 would still show as my drop? And the bigger your accumulated drop, the more chance you have of being offered a future casino credit?

Nope - doesn’t work that way.  Casino tracks how much you play (amount x duration).  If you play for 5 hours a night, but you’re playing $0.10 per bet, or you play $100 per bet, but only for 2 min, you’re not very valuable to them.  If you play for 3 hours every other night, and you bet $5 per bet, doesn’t matter if you win or lose…. Eventually you’ll lose, and you’re likely to return after losing (or winning), so they know that they WILL make money off you in the long run.

Have sailed in US, Europe, South America and from Australia to the US. All in US$.

There are sailings from Australia that the on board currency is Aus$. This Aus$ currency information is clearly noted in their information.

postcardswansea asked about chips. Looks as if the response is about slot machines, not the gaming tables where chips are used.
