I like prime rib and carrot cake, and am eager to have both on my upcoming cruise! 😀

 

Heartfelt thanks to all who are live posting!! I will try and pass it forward by answering lingering questions when I sail. 

 

Would love to get any updates regarding the casino, ie casino host, slot availability, covid protocols, ... anything at all!

Not very long in my humble opinion. 

 

Looking at the Inside Passage (which is over 600 miles long) – the Bliss versus Majestic (Royal class) -- there is a difference in the route these big ships take.  For me, the “Inside Passage” going south from the southern tip of Alaska uses the Grenville Channel.  The Grenville Channel is possibly the most dramatic part of the Inside Passage.  Large cruise ships (Majestic) do not take this route. The channel narrows to about quarter-mile at mile 518.  Just beautiful!!  The Northern Canyons is especially dramatic 100 mile stretch of the Inside Passage which begins at Boat Bluff Lighthouse.  The almost 90-degree turn is too sharp for large cruise ships like the Majestic so they use a modify route.  Once you approach the Queen Charlotte Sound large ships (Majestic & Discovery) traverse west of Vancouver Island and smaller ships (Emerald & Sapphire) enter the Queen Charlotte Strait then the Johnstone Strait with very beautiful scenery as you head toward Seattle or Vancouver.

 

Chengkp75 has many comments on the Inside Passage.  If I remember correctly, the problem with these very large Princess ships (Royal Class) is their rudder/propeller configuration – especially at slow speed.  Plus, the fact that Princess Royal class ships (Majestic & Discovery) have somewhere around 3.1 acres of sail area (the amount of surface exposed to a wind blowing on the side of the vessel), and Southeast Alaska Pilots Association were concerned about getting cruise ships through narrow parts of the Inside Passage. Also, British Columbia, Canada -- made the decision that they would not be allowed (Princess Royal class ships) to transit Seymour Narrows, which meant that ships had to sail west of Vancouver Island.  It should be noted that Princess is in talks with BC to change this decision.

Yes, the Majestic route is to the west of Vancouver island. I hope their talks on changing this route occur before our June cruise! That being said, I look forward to cruising on the Majestic on whichever route she takes🛳

I think that all of us have been frustrated to some extent with the DMW on the Medallion App. Seems to me it will be hard to have the same servers each night, for instance.

How'd it go last night? 

How does the waitstaff feel about it?

Thanks so much for this info.  Do the disembarkation papers mention what time your flight has to leave from SEA to qualify for Luggage Valet program (where they take your luggage to the airport and you don't see it until arriving at home airport)?

Also, it occurs to  me:

 

Are all three MDRs treated equally relative to DMW?

Do they open and close at the same time?

Is any one being used for any particular type of dining?

Where is the Club Class dining, as I'd guess it consumes a lot of empty tables?

Someone posted it has to be flights no earlier than 11 AM.

 

(Info was from a source other than disembarkation papers.)

Previously they were providing plastic straws with mixed drinks but it sounds like that is finished with. 😒

I brought metal straws on my cruise a couple years ago. Sadly I left one in my drink and of course it was taken before I realized I forgot it.

I didn't see cards and games on the patter.  I enjoy bridge (usually started at 11AM) and will be very disappointed if that's gone.  Do they still have a Texas Hold'Em table in the casino?  If these are both gone then I will have to reconsider trips with many sea days.

Our first cruise with Princess will be next June with a 15 day connoisseur tour starting in Fairbanks. Reading this is giving me some insight into Princess and what we can expect. We did a 7 day Alaskan cruise with NCL in Sept. 2019 and cannot wait to go back and see more of this beautiful state. 

Thanks for taking time to answer all these questions and for helpful Princess tips.

get some agave straws (that A-Z website has em) they feel like the plastic but are fully compostable.  no plastic involved.

One word of warning about linking your reservations... Princess has stated something to the effect that if somebody tests positive for Covid or develops symptoms, they AND THEIR ENTIRE PARTY OR CLOSE CONTACTS  will be subject to refused boarding and or quarantine.  That COULD put you in jeopardy if your booking has been linked to theirs!
