Another question for someone aboard.  What are they calling the "VIP Gaming" area on the Alaska cruises?  This is the lounge that is next to the casino.  It functioned as a Crooners when we were on the Majestic in 2019 but I just wanted to know if there is an official name for it.  I'm preparing the officer invitations for our Meet & Greet on the August 8th sailing and was hoping to use the venue name rather than just say VIP Gaming area (lounge next to casino).  Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer!

Someone has reported that it is now a Vista lounge

No salmon?    Say it isn’t so

Salmon is on the menu every night - Princess Favorites on the right side of the entrees.

I half to say, I'm a bit underwhelmed with the menus for dinner the last two nights, especially for the Captain's Welcome dinner.

As you are now on the ship, forgive me if this was asked already, but with the WiFi and purchasing it pre cruise versus onboard for platinum/elite, was the price the same or is it actually more ?  I did see posted somewhere that it was more if purchased onboard but no cruises had actually sailed since that change was made.

Thanks, Diane

The person was referring to the lunch menu in the dining room on embarkation day. We've seen the menu with the salmon and the one without. I always get it if it's available, along with an appetizer size portion of the ravioli.

Same.  I remember fancy, fancy on Alaskan cruises, but that was 15 years ago.

Ahh, understood.

When Princess first announced these cruises they said there would be an Alaskan-themed menu. Haven't seen that yet; perhaps when they actually get to Alaska tomorrow.

Agreed. No lobster. No prime rib. Something is different.

On our past Alaska cruises lobster has been served on the final formal night.  We'll see if it's still in the budget!

Not even a sirloin steak.

Thanks for your reports. Did you notice whether you can still order a steak from Crown Grill in the MDR? You used to be able to do that for a small upcharge.

There was Alaskan cod on the menu the first night that someone posted. When I took Alaskan cruises in 2019, there were several other Alaskan menu items, including a delicious seafood bisque, Alaskan seafood chowder, and Alaskan salmon. When we were on an Alaskan cruise in 2012, they had a seafood buffet one afternoon by the pool with a huge salmon a s the centerpiece.

Found this info released July 2, 2021:

Alaska Seafood

Passengers can enjoy a destination-themed dinner in the main dining rooms and Alaska seafood menus in the specialty restaurants throughout their cruise, including fresh salmon, King crab, and halibut.

Maybe more of the specials are in the specialty restaurants. That's disappointing. I figured Princess (and the other cruise lines) would look to spoil cruisers on the first few cruises back. Doesn't seem to be the case.

Hopefully someone onboard can confirm. However, I did notice that both the embarkation patter and the OceanCompass map of the Majestic Princess in the Medallion app refer to that area as having a Double Down Bar.

Yes, I was referring to the embarkation day lunch. Sorry for the confusion and for posting when I am not onboard right now. ☺️

I'm wondering if anybody was able to use their QR Code as vaccination proof. I and curious if Princess has the proper technology to read those particular codes.

I don’t know about the vax codes specifically, but they use tablets for check in. Definitely the right tech for QR codes and taking pics of documents.

I remember eating the best salmon of my life on the Lido Deck at a Salmon Bake after Ketchikan.  I wanted to go back for more but didn’t want to be a glutton.  It has spoiled me for other Salmon.

We're on the 8/1 sailing. Can anyone tell me if the Olympics are on anywhere? Bars? MUTS screen? A few years ago we were on a New Years sailing and most nights they had bowl games on. Was wondering if they were going to do the same here. Thanks

I read that too but there is already a Vista lounge aft on the Promenade deck.  So I'm hoping someone onboard can clarify.

See post 472 in this thread (page 19 or so)

See post 638 on prior page.  There shouldn't be two Vista lounges on the ship which is why I wanted to clarify.

Only Aft.  Use to be a gaming themed room, but when we were on the ship. certainly some of it looked like a Vista Lounge.  They probably removed and changed the Majong gaming tables.

On my version of the Medallion app it shows the area outside the casino as Crooners Gaming Lounge. I wonder what the difference in the maps is? I know someone said there is a piano player outside the Crown Grill in their bar. Can someone confirm if the Crooners or martini bar is now the bar outside the casino? We always felt this area was more of a hallway/pass through than an actual lounge on Royal class ships.
