I reckon “background” music is neither required nor wanted. I love listening to music on  the pool deck. I and others happily do this with headphones/buds, which as far as I know don’t annoy anyone’s serenity or conversations.

With the den, I’d prefer any piano music to be background only pre-dinner. The living room is a more suitable venue for some pre-dinner entertainment. Crank up the Den after theatre shows.

Really like your breakdown of when it can be "soft" and when "louder.  I hope Azamara listens (if they can hear you above the music 🙂 )

I wish they were moved back near the fireplace- not only does it make conversation difficult, but it makes conducting business at the shore excursion desk impossible!  Either change hours of shore excursion desk to not coincide with loud piano music or move the piano back to fireplace area at other end of den away from shorex desk.

I can see why they did it. Not that I necessarily agree with it, but they made The Den much larger as a seating area when they removed the casinos and the piano stuck down the far end would be odd.

I'll add to that by saying I'm not a fan at all of piped music and generally don't like loud. Having said this, there are venues on the ship where loud is prevalent. This is fine as long as there is somewhere you can escape to. Something that Celebrity doesn't understand and it's stopped me going on them.

I hope to goodness that Azamara keep the noise levels down. They are not party ships, but I enjoy evenings in the Living Room.

You are much more reticent than I am! I am not going to leave a table on a cruise ship half satisfied unless I hated the food. Plus I’m not shy about rearranging the dish to suit the way I eat. “Could I have the lamb chops without the potatoes or the gravy, please, but with some extra asparagus? And some extra butter as well, please?” From our very first cruise, I think we knew that we could ask for a whole second dinner if we wanted one, and I’ve certainly seen people do it. I have never once heard a passenger say “The food on the ship was good, but I was just so hungry for the entire cruise!” 😁

I agree, totally.  We’ve done 27 cruises and the only problem we have with the food onboard is we eat too much!

I often order the mains fish as a starter (without sides) as I’m not an appetisers person.  If there are sides included in a mains that appeal to me, but am not ordering, I’ll ask for them to be included with the dish I’ve chosen.

Like you, I’m far from reticent when letting the server know what way I’d like my meal served.   We had a wonderful waiter (Paulo) in Prime C almost every night we dined there;   one night we had a different server.  Paulo almost instructed the chef to alter a dish my husband had ordered when he saw it being prepared because he thought it was for me and knew the way I would prefer it done.  However, he copped it was for DH when he saw what else had been ordered and knew that that one would be mine lol.

I never thought about ordering just the fish or meat without the sides as a starter. What a good idea! I have ordered a double portion of a starter as a main before, though.

I’ve had similar responses before when posting this which is why I added it on this forum.

I loved the Korean chicken in Prime C so much that I had a second helping as a mains one night when I couldn’t face a full main meat course.

That's why Cruise Critic is here: to let less experienced cruisers know how things work!

I have sailed on 29 cruises on 13 cruise lines [ocean and river, mass market to luxury] – and there has never been one in which you couldn't order a double portion or a second entree, or modify the sides to suit.  That is one of the great things about cruising as opposed to land tours, where the meals are much more regimented.  On Noble Caledonia earlier this month every time I ordered a souffle or anything with creme anglais served at table, I would kindly ask the waiter the leave the gravy boat full of sauce so I could serve myself more – the answer every single time: "Of course, Sir!"

It's YOUR cruise, and the wait staff are eager to please.  But they're not mind readers – as long as you ask nicely, they will do anything in their power to please you.

I agree. The Azamara crew will go far and beyond. Great tips.

Oh my- the Prime C Korean Chicken- DH’s favorite!  He ordered it so often on our last B2B that I thought he would start “clucking” by the end of the cruise!

First night, DH had the fish cake.   I gave him a taste of the KC.  We both had it every night we dined there after that.

Sorry to break the conversations. But could anyone onboard now tell me if there are ‘actimel’ shot type drinks available at breakfast?  I’ve developed a medical condition and never needed them before so never noticed on our previous Az cruses. ☹️
Just trying to figure out if I bring tablets or my own stash of actimel shots.

Certainly did not see it on Quest but is it something you could send in a medical form asking them to get as its not an unusual item

If you bring your own, the little fridge is not all that cold. Tablets might be better.

We are sailing on 9/6 from Amsterdam to Barcelona on the Pursuit. We will be doing self-guided tours in a few ports and have done research on those ports. However, printed maps are often much more readable than either printed copies from online sources or maps on the cell phone. Has anyone noticed whether maps, brochures are available at Guest Services the night before docking at ports? We've had this information available in the past, but it was very spotty since covid hit.

Thank you,

Diana

At least some (most? all?) city maps were available at guest services on our 9 August trip to Iceland. Of course, given the size of most the towns at which we docked, a map was a pretty simple affair!

I miss the local tourist information reps that used to come onboard at each port.  Hopefully they will be able to return when covid conditions allow.  Maps are available from Guests Relations but they tend to be printed from the internet, many of them are A3 size which helps.

The reps did come on in Edinburgh on Quest last week so maybe it is slowly opening back up.  The maps were on a table adjacent to the concierge so you did not have to line up at Guest relations.  They also had the maps out for the next two ports which was great for forward planning.  I believe the access to information and local guides is handled through the port agent and some are better than others.  Edinburgh has a very well organised infrastructure with local volunteers which will help the agent tap into resources more quickly than perhaps happens elsewhere

Well, you’ve certainly made us keen.. However, the website menu doesn’t include either the fish cake or the Korean chicken. Is there a new, different menu in Prime or were these special requests?

If there’s a new menu (and in Aquilina), can anyone supply copies please.

Thanks @uktogfor suggesting #11 to return to the ship after the Tattoo, it worked perfectly!

Im glad it worked - I also did the ship some maps that they put at guest relations which I hope were useful for some guests

VERY minor changes from what we had on Pursuit July ( e.g.  no Chilean Sea bass on menu ( but it was available if asked for) in Prime C
