Will you still wear a mask?

Numbers are interesting but how many cases are asymptomatic? How many of the deaths is directly caused by Covid or from other sources but the individual was positive for Covid? What % of daily cases go to the intensive care now?

my renal specialist said the incubated cases has incredibly decreased now due to the vaccine. Many positive cases he said now are only discovered by patients in for other procedures who are routinely tested for Covid. Gross numbers may not tell the entire story.

Are you saying that Covid numbers should be lowered?

I have been wanting to say that since we are discussing cruises and since the CDC is still requiring testing to board a ship and requiring quarantining if we test positive on a ship, each and everyone of us should have a vested interest in staying masked as much as possible in order not to ruin any of our vacations.

I do apologize if anyone had stated this already.

Are you saying that we should all wear a mask on ship even if not required any more?  Trying to understand your position.

I am not sure about wearing masks everywhere on a cruise ship.  I am just a bit surprised at the strong anti-mask sentiment.

We aren’t sailing until late June, on a cruise that was booked years ago.  It would be unfortunate and sad if we let our guard down and got sick either right before sailing or on the ship.

Most of us have successfully avoided getting sick for 2 years, and I guess I hoped that the cruising community would want to band together and be interested in trying to keep all of us healthy.

So, I will get in good enough shape to avoid elevators on the ship or wear my mask on elevators as well as the theatre.
I will also wear my mask on our long flights across the country, I don’t want to get sick traveling to a cruise.

DH often gets an upper respiratory infection after we cruise, we assume it is from the steam room in the Persian Garden.  I am sure he will also be masking up at times on the cruise.  And avoiding the steam room.

We did a UK seacation last year, and wearing a mask was no bother. In the UK now, masks are no longer mandatory, but there is still COVID circulating (and numbers high/rising) and we have never stopped wearing masks.  We have three cruises this year, and at present still plan to take and wear masks when indoors but not eating/drinking. That said, we spend a lot of our time outdoors (and don't mask outdoors).  We'll still likely maintain some social distance (as, I think, Celebrity's website still currently recommends) as well.

I don't find wearing a mask to be any inconvenience at all.

“Should we all band together to keep people healthy” sounds good in principle.  But it sounds too much like shouldn’t we all think alike?  I am not anti mask but I wouldn’t mind a place where I could take it off once in a while.  I would mask in crowds.

I am not anti-mask. You are welcome to wear a mask. I am not interested in wearing one at this point.

Me either, I will not wear a mask anywhere it is not required by law. Covid will be around probably forever like the seasonal flu, and I will be dammed if we should wear masks forever too. I am all for personal choices, you can wear one if it makes you feel better, and I will not because it makes me feel better.

I am not either, unless required by law or if a private business requests it in their establishment.  Still totally respect those who choose to continue to wear a mask.

Just off the Edge yesterday. I saw 2 people total (no exaggeration) all week wearing a mask on the ship. One in the theater and one in the ocean view cafe.  I think it was pretty telling that 99.9% of people won’t be wearing masks moving forward.

Odd that I have read this entire thread over time and don't feel that there's a strong anti-mask sentiment here. There are many here, like myself, who prefer not to wear a mask and don't plan to where it's not required. Is that what you consider anti-mask?

If anyone in this thread were antagonistic towards someone who would prefer to wear a mask, that's what I would consider anti-mask. I just don't see it.

We plan on doing similar. Like you we did a staycation cruise last year and had no issues wearing our masks to go from venue to venue. We wear masks when going in shops at home and plan to do so for the foreseeable future.

We have traveled a few times to the Far East, well before covid. Initially we were surprised at the number of people (especially on trains/underground) wearing masks but now see their point of view…Why risk catching/passing on any illness in crowded places?

We have always done an antibacterial wipe over TV remotes, door handles etc on boarding as an anti noro protection too…Takes seconds but offers peace of mind.

We are not willing to spend the rest of our lives locked up scared of catching something but equally we are happy to abide by what we see as some simple common sense actions to reduce the risk of our holidays being compromised by ill health.

Everyone needs to do what they are comfortable with…

First of all, one must differentiate between "anti-mask" and "anti  mask-mandate." They are two different things.  The anti mask-mandate people in the US will need another campaign to complain about once the Fed govt and TSA eliminate the air/train/bus mandates in a few months.

As far as anti-mask, that's another thing.  Without mandates, everyone knows masks are personal choices.  I can't imagine any normal person being against others wearing masks if they're not required to, any more than they would be against others wearing underwear or socks.

Also, anyone planning a cruise from 2021-2022 has had to undergo the rigorous vaccination, booster, testing and masking requirements of the last year or so.   So most of us get it.  We do what we do because we want to cruise.

In your picture, you do not appear to be wearing a N95 mask.  So thanks for protecting others but you are not protecting yourself very much if at all.  That may be why it is not an inconvenience.  A N95 is usually tight enough that it is bothersome.   Have not tried the KN95 that is recommended but will if traveling for long periods of time.

Indeed. With the exception, of that photo we wore (and wear) surgical masks. You cannot really tell in that photo, but there was no one within 200 m of me when I took that photo. Those are also not N95 masks.

I am well aware of how uncomfortable N95 and FFP3 masks are due to my work. Whilst a surgical mask will afford me less protection from you than an N95 or FFP3, I will continue to wear them. Contrary to your statement, they do afford the wearer some protection. Some protection is still better than no protection.

I don't think the numbers are fake, but the most likely to die from COVID are the elderly (by a huge margin) and those with one or more existing illnesses/conditions. The numbers aren't useful without some interpretation.

And I would estimate that roughly 75% of Celebrity passengers fall into the category of elderly, including my 70 year old self. We can debate percentages and it varies by sailing but its a large percentage.   Thankfully all onboard are vaxxed and many of us also boosted.

You stated masks were no bother.  Then you have now clarified that masks that do not provide  protection are no bother.  Have not seen any data that supports that the "surgical" mask is effective.  There is some speculation that it helps because it is a reminder to all to be careful and do things like not touch your face and social distance which is indeed "some protection" but could be achieved without the surgical mask.

Totally respect everyone's right to do what they are comfortable with.

Some ideas cause hardships like the crew still wearing masks.

Safe travels to all.

I'm pretty sure surgeons wear surgical masks so THEY don't infect the patient.  They're not intended to keep the surgeon from being infected in the operating room.

The same is true with Covid. Unless you're correctly wearing an N95/KN95 mask (which is only 95% effective, you wear a surgical mask to protect your fellow humans from YOUR germs and contain them as much as possible to your mouth and nose and mask filtering system..  That's how they are effective.

That is exactly what my personal doctor told me last December.

What you say is true, but they are also proven to offer good protection to you as well.
