Holy markup @ candy in gift shop!

The gift ship is like a hotel minibar. There’s a captive audience buying on impulse and the prices are high.
Pack your essentials and your impulses if you want to save some money.
I assume you’re allowed to pack candy in your suitcases.

Really  a huge ripoff..limited choices. We bring our own snacks!

In contrast, the perfumes and cosmetics  stores seem to have normal dept store prices,..a few specials but no big bargains.

On EDGE, the store with postcards etc, had  nothing for children/ grandchildren, really high pricing.  Sweatshirts were around $ 85 or more..we passed. Bought a crystal ship model for grandson,  a few keychains and magnets. We will expect the same on BEYOND

No higher than at Movie Theaters.    Do the crew really want candy from you, can’t you use your OBC for additional tips so they can purchase what they need.    If they want candy it’s less expensive in the crew area.    I have never needed any additional snacks on the ship.   Candy is available where they serve ice cream for no additional cost.

Have you ever purchased items like this in the gift shop of a nice hotel?  Same kind of deal.

tr - for some of us, a 'nice hotel' is flying in day of sailing so it is one less expense... LOL

Plus, if it costs more than $75/night... meltdown!!!! LOL

Then there is the last $100 drop in fare so we can get the corresponding OBC to make up for it...

bon voyage

Note to self, stuff in the on board store is more expensive than your local Dollar Tree.  I wonder why?  😆

That said, just hit up guest services and tell them who you want to give your extra OBC to.

I found some nice things on Apex for my Niece and Nephew...quality of the clothing seemed very nice.

There are types of OBC that specifically exclude giving to crew (example: Shareholder OBC).

Maybe this is so on some cruise lines but not on Celebrity where there is no restriction regarding using Shareholder OBC for crew gratuities.

Are you sure? This is from the investors page regarding shareholder benefits and the terms specifically exclude service charges.

To the OP, I just want to say, captive audience or not, I think it's very nice you were thinking of the crew.

Not sure how you get there.  Besides, OBC provided by X is held in a single bucket for your folio, and is fungible.  Which $100 was spent for what?

Taken directly from the investors page, OBC obtained from shareholder benefit can not be used for onboard service charges. I'm not speaking of other OBC which may, or may not, be applicable.

In other words, if someone boards a Celebrity ship and the only OBC they have is from the Shareholders benefit, they may not apply this to onboard service charges.

Are you suggesting the investors page is incorrect?

As mentioned, it's the same as buying candy at a resort or a hotel store.

Apple products (at least the last time I sailed) were 2, sometimes 3 generations behind.  They were still priced at retail.

But, if you have OBC, you either use it on board or you lose it.

I used mine in the casino and bought the GF some nice jewelry.  They gave me a lot of OBC when they first started up, again.
