Interesting

My TA said you need to use it for an excursion

Not accurate. It is regular OBC once on board. You can use it to pre-book a Princess excursion if you want just like any other OBC that shows up in the travel summary pre-cruise.

I believe you are correct.  My CVP that works for Princess says you can use it on anything onboard.  As a matter of fact, it just shows up as OBC on our invoices where we’ve used that promotion.

not to be obtuse, but how 'exactly' do you know what Princess will do except based on 'past' experiences - but may not reflect as current?

I've included some 'fine print' from the Princess web site.  It's not 100% clear to me that the excursion credit can be used as a regular OBC but it seems so as they pretty clearly say it can't be used in the casino... kind of implies it can be used elsewhere.  Also, I'm not exactly sure if Princess would use this credit to pay down excursions purchased prior to the cruise rather than charge them directly to a credit card.... I believe, probably yes.

$100 Shore Excursion credit per guest will be applied as an onboard credit. Offer is applicable to all guests (up to 4) in a stateroom. Guests with single occupancy will receive double the per guest credit amount. Shore Excursion credit may be used on a single voyage only, is not redeemable for cash, cannot be used in the casino, expires at the end of that voyage and is not applicable during the land portion of cruisetours. Shore Excursion credit is based on the ship’s onboard currency.

None of the onboard credit is 'supposed' to be used in the casino, but it's been a loophole to use it in the casino for as long as I've been cruising.

All I know is I now have almost $700 in onboard credit to use in a 10 day cruise, where we already have princess plus.  I see using the casino loophole in my future.

Hey, I don't mind... just copied and pasted from the Princess site.  I don't gamble, so I have zero experience/knowledge on laundering OBC at the casino.  I guess if I had hundreds of dollars of OBC I'd expand my horizons but I don't get that kind of credit when I cruise.

Many posts from current passengers confirm that the excursion OBC is just like any other OBC.

BTW, I just read that it has been extended for bookings through November 2nd.
It’s a great promo .. so glad they had it.  I booked 3 additional cruises under this promo and had 3 other cruises refared, as well.

Just chiming in to mention that both my Princess Cruise Vacation Planner and the Princess Chat person that I communicated with today informed me that the $100/person shore excursion credit could be used ONLY for shore excursions.  This is under The Love Boat Sale.  I don’t know if any of you are referring to shore excursion credits offered under something else.

An extra $200 in obc is always a good thing.  I have cruised many times with only the shareholders or the shareholders and the FCD obc.  Add another $200 per cabin, that’s a great deal for me.

Absolutely, we would have $300 FCD + Veteran OBC and an extra $200 would mean we would not need to pay for Plus. I have seen several Princess Sales over the years and this one just did not seem outstanding, especially if OBC was only for excursions.
