We have been in Split a good number of times , have toured the city and surrounding area always with our wonderful guide  and good friend Ante Batarelo . Last September while cruising on the Oosterdam in the Adriatic Ante suggested a day going through the mountains South of Split through the St Jure Tunnel to the impressive Biokovo Mountains to the Nature Parkland where they just finished building a new Skywalk with a glass floor about 1260 mtr above sea level to have a good view of the Islands Hvar and Brac . It was too bad it was a little bit cloudy.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll remember Holy Innocents day; I'm often downloading something but always scan for viruses. I will call a friend today. Interesting quote. The meal looks good, but I'm going out for Indian food later. I'll pass on the drink and wine.

I haven't been to Split.

It's 40 and the sun is shining! The snow and ice are melting finally. I had trouble getting to sleep last night (maybe due to the big Mexican meal I had and the strawberry margarita, my first alcohol in months), but finally got a good night's sleep. I'm going with BFF for Indian and meeting another friend there.

@SusieKIslandGirl Happy Anniversary!

@ottahand7 That meal looks good. I'll have to plan around my refrigerated RA med when I travel.

@RedneckBob Great sunset picture.

@lindaler Sorry to hear about missing bags!

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for the great pictures from Split.

@smitty34877 Try not to overdo it, and get lots of rest if you can. I hope the new aide arrives today and is a good one.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes. I've ordered from Bronner's but never been there. I'd like to go for the German food in the area too.

@marshhawk I hope the water issue is fixed soon.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lovely pictures from Split.

@Heartgrove That sounds awful on the Legend; I can't believe she doesn't have heat.

@HAL Sailer I'm glad you got home safely after that scary journey. Nice that DH had a good visit with DSIL.

@bennybear Thanks for the excellent photos.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

Thanks. It was so cold hear in Florida, how cold was it RNB? It was so cold I had to light a fire under that sun at sunset.

I didn't know that about Torties!  This cat was so adorable, just talking away to me non-stop. All cats in the Med are friendly, but this one went above and beyond!

The Senior Cat in Charge was the most talkative of mine. He was a large, long-haired cat with the voice and temperament of a Siamese, and he had a lot to say on absolutely any subject.

The cat in the painting yesterday was the only one I've seen in Washington.

We'll never forget when our tabby went to stay with a family with a Siamese cat.  We came back from our trip to a tabby who wouldn't stop "talking". It lasted a few days.  🤣

We were in Split on October 14, 2016, on Prinsendam, and again on August 8, 2019 on Veendam.  The difference in the crowds between the two visits was amazing.

These are random pictures from 2016, when we walked through the old walled city.  The first three are from our walk along the wall to the entrance to the old city.

I took one picture of the same place on both visits, and they show the difference between the crowds in summer and in fall.  The first is from 2016.

In 2019, at the recommendation from a friend, we visited a specialty Museum.  To get to the museum we walked along the side of the walled city and then along the street in back of the wall.

The Froggyland museum.  As you can see from the sign, the stuffed frogs, set in various scenes are more than 100 years old and were real stuffed frogs.  It was interesting, but I'm not sure worth the 10 Euros admission.  We were not allowed to take pictures inside.

After Froggyland, we continued on the back street until we could turn along the wall and enter the old city.

We found a back street with some interesting ruins.

@Heartgrove  Not sure where you are going, but probably heading south this time of year.  I have been on the Legend 3 times.  It does not have heat.  Twice we cruised south on her, and the day coming back in January, to Tampa , it was snowing.  No heat on the ship.   Cruising Alaska in mid September in Glacier Bay.  No heat on the ship.  I was wearing 4 layers to be outside to see Alaska, but only had to take two layers off when I went inside.  (And that was to fit into the booth to eat in the MDR).  Remember Carnival is the fun ship, they are not expecting you to stay in your cabin, but being out having fun.  I would suggest a heavy sweater, some long pants, and some sock and shoes.  With the cold that all of the country has been having you know that cold was not going to stop when it hit water.

And you only have to dress warmly for a few days.  Hope that helps.  Sorry.  No heat.

@HAL SailerI am glad that you made it there and back again, and are all in one piece.  It was important for you to be there.  And I'm sorry the drive was scary.  But I know you are glad in hind sight that you did not turn around and go home.  Life is full of what if's, DH was upset at the amount that we paid for firewood for the 5 days of freezing in the south.  I reminded him that we stayed warm, and if we had lost power we would have frozen to death.  We cant leave and stay in a hotel when we have all the fur babies to care for.  This way you have no regrets whatever the future brings.  Your DH and his sister were together at Christmas.

@SusieKIslandGirl  Next time you are going to be in the Atlanta area, let me know, perhaps we can have an adventure together.  Happy Anniversary!  And safe travels home!

We've had some awesome sunrises and sunsets today that put mine to shame but it's tradition for me to post them so here goes.

Today's sunrise is this morning from the parking garage just before starting my Mall Walk:

Thanks to a great suggestion from my lovely Croatian dentist, we visited the beautiful town of Trogir for our second visit to Split.   Highly recommend, it’s a reasonable taxi drive away.

Good morning all!

It's a cloudy morning, 41F but not raining at least for the moment.  It has come down so hard the last few days, I worry about flooding in other areas.

All good days today.  I guess Rich was a day early when he called me yesterday from Cozumel after spending the afternoon with a mutual friend.  It was good to catch up with him.

I'll pass on the meal, but would probably like the wine and drink.  We finally finished up the turkey last night, I'm feeling like some beef tonight lol.

The anti-nausea meds seem to have worked for DH, no problems this time -- yay!  Thank you Roy @rafinmdfor including him in the care list.

We have been to Split at least twice, in 2019 and 2021.  The first time we went to Omis and took an amazing river cruise.  The last time we just wandered around Old Town Split and had a very nice day then too.  Like all of Croatia, it's a beautiful and unusual port.

Photos from Omis and the river boat cruise in 2019:

We took a tour to the town of Omis and took a riverboat ride through the gorgeous canyons along the river.  The photos really don't do it justice, I remember thinking I'd love to do that tour again!

Checking in late, after shoveling out a few driveways and helping others with gas and propane runs.

The power came on last night at 9:58 and then went out again about 2:30 this morning. We got a load of laundry done during the 4.5 hours of electricity, before going to bed.

No estimate of when the power will be restored this time. Last night, the line-workers restored power during a storm with over 50 MPH winds and blowing rain and snow mixture. I am not surprised we lost power again and know that these workers must be extremely tired after the past few months of craziness. If weather isn't enough of a deterrent to the electrical grid, we have had a few power substations intentionally attacked during this Christmas season in Washington State.

On a side note: glad I don't have a Tesla. I cannot imagine relying on an electric car during this crazy month. How much gas would it take to run my generator to charge a car so I could make more gas runs to run the generator to charge the car?

Back home. Safely. Thankfully.

Sunday's 4.5 hour drive downstate can only be described as hellish. It took 50% longer than usual on snow packed, icy state highways and interstates none of which had even one clear lane to reach my DH's son's.

I should have turned back. That would have been wisest. But, I kept thinking that my DH's sister (DSIL) likely won't be with us much longer and who knows what or whom my dear DH will remember by next Christmas. So, I kept white knuckling it.

We arrived late to DH's son's but had a nice Christmas afternoon and evening with him and his wife's extended family including five kids ages 3-13. Such unbounded energy!

After a restful night, we left Monday for a much easier 2 hr drive to my DSIL's. My DH and his sister had a sweet visit. They reminisced a lot about farm life, the one room school they attended, and growing up. My DH didn't remember much but he eagerly looked at pictures DSIL had ready to share and she sweetly answered, "I didn't know that" to his confused stories.

Yesterday, was our 4 hr drive home. It felt much longer despite decent roads as my hands and shoulders (and probably my mind, too) were remembering the horrid Sunday drive.

But, I'm glad I managed the trip. It was an important visit. DSIL is clearly weaker, less mobile, and has less 'fight' than at our last visit. The tears shared as we left told more than any of us wanted to say aloud...

But, I'm going nowhere near the car today! Today, I've self-prescribed resting, reading -- and catching up with The Daily -- as my most strenuous activities. Dinner will be something found in the freezer.

Until caught up, I send my 🙏 and my 🎉 to those on the lists. And, to you all I wish a great end to 2022 and a wonderful start to the approaching new year.

-Melisa

I'm sorry to hear how awful that drive to your DS's house was and can certainly empathize with you.  Ours was definitely not good but yours sounds much worse.  It's important that your DH got to visit with his DSIL so I'm glad they got to spend some quality time together.  Hoping your Wednesday was very restful!

Sorry.  No heat.

This is a cruise that has been rescheduled two times before by us because of losing my two siblings this year. Two of the bookings were on the Carnival Sunshine from Charleston but we decided this time to push it out to January on the Legend. It never occurred that heat would be an issue because of it sailing from Baltimore in the winter! We also have a booking on it for one of the Greenland sailings in August. Probably the same scenario only in the opposite directions. Hopefully the week in January is not as bitter cold as last week was.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes. I've ordered from Bronner's but never been there. I'd like to go for the German food in the area too.

I remember times as a child that we went to Frankenmuth for Sunday dinner.  It always involved a long wait to get seated, but was well worth it once we were.  Now, you can make reservations and I highly recommend doing that. Today at 1:30 pm it was 90 minutes minimum wait for walk ins.  That was at the Bavarian Inn and across the street at Zehnders, the line was out the door.

Back home. Safely.

-Melisa

I am thankful that you made it safely.  And, yes, it was important to make that trip.

We are staying in Jacksonville tonight.  We have no idea if the furniture is back in the house yet.

I don’t expect to stay there for a few more days or even a week or two.  The only thing I know is that the work is done.  Not sure of anything else.  Will let you know when I know.  Not before tomorrow.

Terri

I hope it is ready soon for you and meets all your expectations.

We are having an usually colorful sunset tonight. 20221228_163311.thumb.jpg.aae7d67c54398a85f0a7ef04d3665123.jpg

We had a similar sunset last night here in Midland.

Our trip to Bronner's was wonderful.   We bought a few things, but mostly we were on a scouting mission.  Some of the fancy ornaments can be made at home, especially if you have a live in artist like Sue.  After Bronner's we went down to the outlet mall at Birch Run.  I found way too much down there that I liked.  I haven't bought clothes in almost 2 years so this was a treat for me.  I did get a couple pairs of velour lounge around the house pants so I can be like Marjorie on Mom.

Hello, Dailyites and thanks especially to Roy for doing what he does!  I won’t be posting for a while, as we won’t have internet on board, but we are having a good time in San Diego today and eating good stuff.  Tonight it’s Cafe Sevilla and happy hour for tapas.  Happy hour certainly makes a difference, price-wise.

we have enjoyed Split, the few times we have been there.  There is a good hoho bus ride, and it is also very easy to walk around.

Good evening from the Courtyard Hotel in Jacksonville.

We did not go home for a number of reasons, the primary being that we were tired and did not feel like driving for @ three hours late this afternoon.  The other, and equally important, was that I needed one more night to get my Suite Night Awards for 2023 with Marriott.

I put a call in to the Contractor after I got to Jacksonville, but was unable to reach him.  I have a feeling that the work in the house may be finished, but the “pack in” is not done.  That means that the furniture and other stuff has not made it back into the house yet.  We will see tomorrow.

I am expecting that it will take about two weeks for us to be able to move back in.  Maybe i will be surprised tomorrow.  Who knows!

We enjoyed our cruise and I am sorry for not posting very often.  While the internet is free on Oceania, it is shameful.  I just found it hard to post, getting knocked off often.  Finally I just decided to give up.  This is the ship that does the World Cruise.  I wonder how those people will feel about the pathetic internet service they will have during their journey.

We did not do much during the first part of the cruise. The first 7 days were the Mexican ports.  We were tired and really had no interest in getting off the ship and sightseeing.

On the second cruise, we did do a private tour in Antigua and in Barbados went to lunch at a local Bajan Restaurant enjoying flying fish—the national dish, and macaroni pie.  Afterwards we spent time at the beach.  it was a beautiful day.

In Martinique, we walked to the covered market mingling with the locals.  Then paid a visit to St. Louis Cathedral.

After DH hurt his leg, we get off at any other port.  We skipped St. Barts because of high sea swells, we attempted instead to dock in Sint Maarten but the sea swells prohibited us from doing that as well.

We did get the opportunity to rest, and that was one thing we needed.  It was nice to be able to celebrate Christmas in a joyous setting.  I don’t think that would have happened had we stayed home.

Hope everyone had a great day.

God Bless.

Terri

Power was restored at about 5:45 PM. Nice to have it back.

A late check in before calling it quits for tonight.  It was a good day, especially for DH.  DSIL helped with a couple of things this morning that would have been harder for us to do. DD, DSIL and I took awalk around out little community, then spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and reading.

Dinner tonight was a repeat of last night's dinner.  All that's left now is ham, lots and lots of ham.  DD and DSIL will take some home, and I've already put some in the freezer.  It will be used to make beans and ham on cold days next month.

@Crazy For Cats  Jake, that was a spectacular sunset.  Thank you for sharing it.

@Cruzin Terri Terri, glad you could have one more relaxing night.  Safe travels tomorrow.  I hope you get back in your house soon.

@HAL4NOW  Good to know you have power again.

We went to Zaccios on the West Coast. We were then able to rent chairs and umbrellas and use the beach right there.

Another really great Bajan Restaurant closer to the port, is Brown Sugar.  if you go there, you will not have dinner that night.  They have a wonderful lunch buffet every day.  it is right near the Hilton and Carlisle Bay.  You can then go there and use the beach.  Nice calm water.

If you want more suggestions, email me. Sorry for not answering sooner.
