The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday January 6th, 2023

Good morning!

I was shocked when the first thing I read on CC was about Jacqui being medically disembarked due to sepsis. I really don’t know what that is or what causes it even after googling it, but the picture looked bad. Prayers for her recovery.

I’ll celebrate all the days but pass on the rest. Not sure what is on our menu for today so I need to figure something out soon, but it won’t be tempeh.

DGD Summer ended up spending the night again and is still sleeping. She is still giggling and carrying on about her new boyfriend Jack. She’s even planning to go out with him after school next week for a meal and ice cream. It’s funny because there are only two places that they can go to, McDonald’s or Jack in the Box, and then one for ice cream, Baskin Robbins. Her “ex” works at the last place and she is planning her entrance. Oh my, I don’t remember ever acting like that when I was 15.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to your sister Sandi @StLouisCruisers

Roy @rafinmd, I’ve noticed that Linda’s CC name is wrong on your list.  Can you fix it from “indaler” to “Lindaler”?

Annie @marshhawk, your cats are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Terri @Cruzin Terri, it sounds like things are really moving along with your house. I’m sure you are eager to get back to normal soon. I can’t wait for your after move in pictures.

Blue is telling me it’s time for lunch. Have a great day everyone!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I like beans, be they legumes or coffee beans. No one to cuddle up with here. And war orphans certainly deserve much support and care. I'll pass on the meal and drink, and take the cab sav wine.

I haven't been to Abidjan.

It's cloudy and cool here, with snow showers this AM, but no accumulation. I'm not sure if it's the weather, but my hips are really painful (bursitis), as well as my knee. I see Rheumatology next month. I'll try to get a few things done this afternoon, like steam mopping the kitchen and bathrooms. Also putting on a new toilet seat as the one on has a broken hinge after only 2 months. Great news on Damar being extubated and talking with family and his teammates!

@rafinmd Thank you for starting the thread and our lists.

@kazu Prayers for your new medical issues requiring disembarkation, and for a quick recovery.

@Seasick Sailor Lovely sunrise picture.

@ottahand7 It sounds like you're enjoying your cruise. Thanks for the food porn.

@StLouisCruisers Happy Heavenly Birthday to Nancy. How is your leg doing these days?

@Cruzin Terri I'm sure it'll be so great once you can move back home.

@aliaschief I'm glad you're in your happy place!

@marshhawk Nice to meet your "family".

@cruzn single Sorry to hear of the need for MOHS surgery; prayers that all goes well with it.

@HAL Sailer Thinking of DSIL and you and DH; I hope her sons can put aside differences for her benefit.

Prayers for all on the care list, and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay well everyone.

Thanks for your kind wishes Vanessa.  I'm sorry to hear your hips and knee are bothering you lately. I can certainly identify with those types of issues.  Amazingly enough my knee improved dramatically while we were on the Volendam.  We never used the elevators in 4 weeks and I had to struggle up many stairs numerous times a day, such as at each meal time.  Since I've been home I try to remember to "do the stairs" over and over every day but sometimes I don't get it accomplished.  Therefore I've had a little discomfort at times.  So thanks for the reminder.  Time to do those stairs!

So, between snow, and dermatologist call, it is not the best day.  Got my car washed yesterday (yes, I was another one with horribly dirty windows).  So the car will get dirty today, as I am leaving shortly for a mani/pedi.

Will try to check back in later.  Have a great day everyone!

Sorry both were positive, but glad you can do the cruise and then have the surgery on your return!  What island?

Thank you Rich, double-thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Cat Shepard, and thank you Dixie for your daily contribution! And thank you all for being here!

Yesterday we firmed up our 10-night cruise on MSC to the British Isles in September. I have been checking airfares for the three of us (DSIL, Sue, and I) every so often. Of course with all of the Holiday sales, I got distracted and found a 19-night Transatlantic cruise fare on MSC for about $200 more! Vascillating between the two for the last couple of weeks, I happen to check SAS's website and found the airfare for the three of us was $1,300.00 for their Plus (Premium Economy) cheaper than the last time I looked! We fly to Hamburg via Copenhagen and on return take the train back to Copenhagen to spend a few days. With that we booked our hotels in Hamburg and Copenhagen.

With all of that, we have attempted  to sail on the Rotterdam since it was put in service but needed to cancel twice. Now with the recent HAL sailing announcements we have cancelled our Transpacific for 2024 and will now do - the 2024 British Isles (Part Deux!) in August 2024. Sue really wants to visit there and having two chances should make sure we see what she wants to see. Tentatively we will follow that up with an 11-night MSC cruise to Norway.

Currently hoping the temperatures around here don't take a nose-dive for our cruise from Baltimore in two weeks!

Stay Safe!

- Jack

great catch on the airfare, so worth it!

@aliaschief looks wonderful! What ship May I ask?

@kazu oh no!  So sorry to hear this! Sending healing wishes and prayers!

Trivia Question: What is the most favorite beans to consume several hours before the Sailaways of HAL ships in Port Everglades? Anyone know the answer?

No answer yet? I will give you a hint. The effect of the bean sounds like a ships horn.

Passed our Covid tests and less than

2% positive. Masks are off for now. 😀  A drunken afternoon with 3 and 4 Star reception on the heels of the 5 star reception. I think that Fernando the Chief WS said we went through 300 bottles

Then the gratis wine tasting for 4+5 Star Mariners. We did get to the World Stage for the history of the Panama Canal. Everyone is having a.grand time.  Some feedback on Happy Hour scheduling on BHBs. Waited for a wee bit more.   Costa Rica tomorrow then our evening passage through the Panama Canal.  Have a weekend! RedneckBob, I am sorry but that does not help all that much.  I know of multiple varieties of beans that will help me toot with the best of the ships.  Can you give us another hint please?  Color hints won't work either as red, white, black, and brown beans all seem to work fine for me.

I have been reading some of Kazu's review.  To try and find out when and how she hurt herself, something about her arm, but cant seem to find any info.  But so far I keep reading about how important CO is .  Which we have discussed with our person who is taking us, and have opted out of for the Nieuw Amsterdam.  We have excursions for every port except one, (which has no excursions).

So tell me why I want assigned dining vs anytime dining. or dine at my time, or what ever they want to call it.  Our last cruise was on Carnival, and we had anytime dining, where the service was so awful, we switched to assigned and loved it!  I think our friend thinks early is too early, and we would miss dinner a lot, and late, well, late is too late for me.  Since he is handling all of this, when is early dining, and when is late dining.  And if you have anytime dining,  do you just show up?  Call to make reservations?  Not sure, sounds like we will be eating on the Lido alot.

Well, it has been a busy day today.   I went to the gym, came home and had a quick lunch and then went to my hair appointment.  The endocrinologist's office called and had a cancellation and asked if I wanted it.  I jumped on it!  Otherwise I would have had to wait until the end of March.

I have two issues that need addressed.  One was high calcium levels.  I had been referred to a surgeon in Ohio before I moved, but that guy dumped me because I told the office they needed pre-approval for a new bone density scan since I had just had one two months previously.  This guy sat up and said with the levels I have he wants me into surgery right away.  The surgery is to remove 3 of the 4 parathyroid glands.   It is an easy outpatient surgery.  One of my sisters had this done a few years ago.  I am glad that we are moving forward on this because when your calcium levels are high it is because it is being leached out of your bones.  I don't want that!!   The other issue is monitoring the adrenal mass I have.  He ordered all the tests we need for now.   So, I am excited that issues are being dealt with.  I look on all of this as a positive event.

@dfish, I know you say out patient, but wont you need some one to help you out for a few days post surgery?  Is there a family member who can stay with you?  Gosh.  But I guess you knew that you need to treat this ASAP, so I am glad that a good Doc is yours now.

Annie we've always gotten great service with Anytime Dining, and many times we've easily gotten the same stewards if we request it.  They seem to encourage it.  We've done a mix of "just show up" and making reservations.  Unfortunately the past few years the only reservations they give is (something like) between 5-6 or after 7:30 or 8.  Our preferred time of 7'ish isn't ever available.  But even with those issues, we still prefer anytime because when you're assigned a table and wish to dine in a specialty restaurant, the Lido, or are going to be late from an excursion, you need to let your table mates and dining steward know ahead of time so they aren't waiting for you.  I just don't like being tied down like that, others prefer if and always get assigned dining.

Debbie, my best friend is also dealing with high calcium levels and going through tests.  I don't think hers are as high as yours, as they aren't saying she needs surgery right away.  She may be having one parathyroid gland removed, though, in the spring.

A late good afternoon after a very busy day.  The biggest task was cleaning the house, and by now, you know how I feel about that chore.  Afterwards, DH and I replaced the broken handle on one of the storm doors.  BTW, if the handle breaks and just moves freely, you don't need to replace the entire handle, just the inside handle.  That's where the spring mechanism is located.

The next chore was getting more leaves out of the port.  It was windy, but not too bad except every time I started to pick up a pile of leaves there'd be a gust of wind.  I also tried to get the leaves out of the flower bed and drainage ditch.  I was somewhat successful.  Needless, to say supper will be easy and cooked in the air fryer.

A nice group of days which all deserve honoring.

Since I'm not a coffee drinker, the quote could be me if you served me coffee.😉

We'll pass on the drink and the meal.  The wine sounds good, but like Ann @cat shepardsaid, there are good cabs at better prices.

Guess what, in the last week, we still have not been to today's port. 🤣

Good Friday Morning to all of you.

I am looking forward to going to our house and opening some boxes and finally getting reunited with the things that I always have at hand.  After living out of a suitcase for the last 4 months, I am getting impatient.

Yesterday i was amazed at how efficiently the crew from Service Masters worked together.  I worked together with them doing what I could.

I am so grateful that we have good insurance. After the original glitches, they have been great in covering most things.  The only out of pocket for us is the floor upgrade, and the bathroom remodel. That in itself is costing a small fortune, but is worth it.

So, thanks for all your support.

Hopefully I will get back to regular posting soon.

God bless,

Terri

Terri, I'm happy for you that your move in date is getting closer.

Good Friday Morning Dailyites!  To make up for a missed Monday, our boss is having us work this morning to early afternoon.  Which means the dog needs to be walked before I start work, which means lunch has to be made before I start work, and I need to make breakfast, as I am beginning to sleep later and later due to having to work later and later.....

So another introduction to the fur babies, I have no idea why these two are fuzzy in the pictures, because they  move the least.  The gray square face is Neko, we found her in a box marked Free Kat 17 years ago.  She is the office manager, as she has not left my work area since I started working from home, she often climbs up on the computer while I am in the midst of talking with patrons, and if I leave my work area she will start going around the house screaming at me to get back to work..   Reminds me of my old boss.  The tan monster is Irving.  He is also 17 years old.  Neither of them are in good health, both of them are needy as all get out, and as I write, Irving just climbed in my lap to suck warmth from me.

@rafinmd. Don't know if you saw it but @kazu just posted on her live thread that the thread was dead because she was medically disembarked.

I was medically disembarked In Puerto Vallarta because of the concern of 2 days at sea and sepsis.  I may have a story to tell down the road on medical disembarkations when it is not so difficult to type.

It’s especially hard pain wise and immobile arm wise with the angle in the hospital bed.  Not sure I will ever travel solo again

Wow, we did a lot of work both yesterday and today.  Lots of boxes opened and stuff put away.

However, we still don’t have a bed.  It’s funny, we were asked what was our priority and I said the Master Bedroom.  And that is the only room that was not complete.  Every other room has all the furniture except for the MBR,  Go figure!  Any way they are promising on Monday.

There was an emergency and only one van was available.  The mattress was in the POD but the box spring is in the warehouse?????   So is the bed frame.  However, I do have a headboard.

C’est la vie!

We did get all the books in the bookcase in the living room and Jim and I will do some stuff in the den over the weekend.

So things are moving along.

I am hoping that we will be in the house by Wednesday.

Say a prayer that will happen.

@dfish It's good to hear you got new doctors who are on top of things.

@smitty34877 My RA is primarily in my hands as far as I know. The knee  and smaller hand joints have osteoarthritis. The hips have bursitis, so I don't think the biologic will help that, as it's inflammation that I don't think is autoimmune. I'm hoping to get a steroid shot next month. I haven't been taking ibuprofen due to my stomach issues and elevated liver enzymes.

@Cruzin Terri Lots getting done, but too bad the bed isn't in the house. Prayers you're in soon!

The answer is “Baked” into the question. This trivia question has been a real gas 😀

RNB, I must be dense. I thought it was Navy beans. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Annie, I don’t know how Jacqui was hurt but I do remember someone accidentally knocked her down when she was using a cane but it seems like that was weeks ago. About dining— we have done both but prefer assigned dining at the later time, which is usually 8:00 pm and called Main. We eat a late lunch and eat later at home so it works for us.  Early dining time is just too early for us.  Several times when we had anytime dining we were able to speak with our server and secure their area at a set time, and sometimes they offer. The steward did have to tell the maitre’d. We much prefer having the same dining stewards.

Also, I’ve been meaning to ask which ship you are on. If you are on a Pinnacle class I need to explain about the Ruben sandwiches at the pizza place.

Debbie, that’s great news about getting into the doctor sooner!

Vanessa, I still haven’t seen the rheumatologist but I’m wondering if I missed a call while away on one of my travels.  When I got back home in November I got so sick I didn’t care.  My doctor put in a new referral yesterday so fingers crossed. I hope the steroid injection helps you.

Terri

Terri, I hope you're in the house by Wednesday, too.

In 2021, DH had what was the experimental procedure to clean the build up on the nerve going through the bursa in his right hip.  The doctor used a probe with ultra sound to break up the deposits, then with water added sucked the deposits out with the same probe.  I don't know if it would work in your case, but it might be worth looking into. iIRC, the procedure was developed by the Cleveland Clinic.

@Sharon in AZWe will be on the Nieuw Amsterdam.  I didn't book this our BFF did, and I guess he figures it will be a surprise, even though I paid for the shore excursions, and will have to pay for the hotels, and extra perks.  If any one can tell me anything about the ship and what I can look forward to for 14 days in alaska (cruising Kodiak, Anchorage, Valdez, Skagway(been there) Ketchickan(been there) Sitka  and Prince Rubert.  But I want to hear about the ship.  What class is this?  I was told it would not be worth it to get CO on this type of ship.  We have a cabin for 3 with french door windows, that look at a life boat.  This is what I usually book when on Carnival Legend.  BFF was thinking this was something that we would like.
