I read Cruise Critic every morning but I have to say that today, you as a group ,have outdone yourselves.

I love the quote, I know how hard it is to forgive and how you try to let go, and the cartoons and postings about age were right on. Have a wonderful day and know how important you all are to some one in Oklahoma.

It's Inauguration Day in Maryland with our first ever black Governor (Wes Moore) to be sworn in at noon on a lovely day.  I haven't seen a Thesaurus in many years and was never into Winnie the Pooh.  I'll probably pass on the Gourmet Coffee for plain brewed (Lido on a BHB is just fine for me.  The quote by Foster is certainly thought provoking.  I don't think I've been to Monterey and  it could probably be on the prayer list with the recent flooding.  The meal is interesting but probably too spicy for me.  My alternative is Citrus Delight, Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop with Cherry-Raisin Chutney and Cherry Crisp as served on MS Prinsendam January 18, 2019:

Thanks for Wednesday Daily, Roy.

Boy, today’s quote sure hits home.

Met my new doctor yesterday and she even had translated the reports from Puerto Vallarta.  She gave me permission to double my pain med for now, Was concerned about the blue hand but my capillaries are good And I did get commended for putting my hand up to help reduce the swelling and the blood from flowing to it.

She was concerned about the splint and suspects it either needs to be replaced or whatever the orthopaedic surgeon decides needs to go on it and wanted to follow up with the orthopaedic surgeon right away.

She checked the old records to see what orthopaedic surgeon I had before, asked if I liked him which I did and I commented that he was very good.  Told her I tried to get an appointment with him but his receptionist said no.

She said great – he’s on call today – I’m calling him right away and seeing if I can get you in to see him. By the time I got home I had a squeezed in appointment to see him today at the hospital. It will be a long wait because I am being squeezed in but with luck Wi-Fi will work and I can one finger on my ipad.  Dictation isn’t going to be allowed there LOL.

I just hope he is happy with the progress and there are no problems.

Prayers for everyone on the care list, those that need them and cheers for all celebrating.

Sounds like you have a very good doctor and glad you are  seeing the surgeon. Time is not always on our side with these things as you well know.

Winnie the Pooh was one of my roles when I worked in puppet theater--Pooh on one hand and Rabbit on the other. The Pooh puppet had too much stuffing to manipulate effectively, so I always put Pooh in my left hand and Rabbit on the right; the role of Pooh is done mainly with the voice.

I'm wary of any dish described as Mexican, because sometimes that just means "composed mainly of chili peppers," but the alternative won't work for me, either. Dinner tonight is likely to be a stir-fry of tofu and bok choy.

Good morning and it is a good morning..... the sky is blue and the sun is starting to do its job as I see some dripping outside.  We got another 4 inches last night.... I will have to wait on the totals but I think about 3 feet from the last 3 storms which were back to back to back. Hope the predicted Friday storm gives us a miss. My very nice neighbor has cleared off my car and has warned me about the black ice in the driveway. Fortunately dogs do not have to go out for awhile as they stepped off the porch... proceeded to take care of business and rushed back in. And I do mean rushed. I think they are done with winter.

Hoping we hear from Kathi soon. Best wishes to Jacqui, Tana and Sarah and all others dealing with issues. My task for today is to begin moving some of the lighter furniture in the living room and moping the floors. Several of the rugs need washing, but that will have to be done piecemeal as I have to hang them inside and I don't have much room. They would freeze stiff outside.

After the surgery on my arm, my hand was badly swollen for at least ten days. I remember giving a talk to a Kiwanis club during that period and wishing that I could conceal the hand while I spoke, but I was under orders to keep my arm in a sling.

Good Afternoon Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  While I only had one scheduled meeting this morning it was a busy one.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds good to me.  DH makes a dish that is very similar to the first one from @dfish recipes.   It’s been a mostly sunny day today with some sprinkles scattered just to keep you guessing.  Wishing everyone a good Wednesday.

Good morning all!

It's another rainy January day here in the PNW, mid 40's.  Not complaining, it could be snow.

DD, DSIL and the grandsons are at SeaTac now, waiting to board their flight to Thailand.  I'm glad to see that their flight (so far) is on time.  I can't imagine flying that far with 2 small children!

We have a nice collection of days today and the quote is many times true.  Monterey is special to DH and me, because it's where we met in 1968.  I lived in Los Gatos then, he was in Monterey in the military.  And they said it would never last. 😄

I'll pass on the drink and wine, would love the meal but won't have it.  Corn AND rice are a big no no for me, way too many carbs.  Even one of them would be pushing it.  Also I'm having my twice/yearly labs on Monday, NOT the week to be pushing the carbs!  😉

These photos are from a visit on a Celebrity ship (never have been to Monterey on a HAL ship).  It's a lovely place to visit!  Look at that sky!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I used to love my thesaurus when in school and writing papers. I'll salute Winnie the Pooh, although I confess I've never read it. I like good gourmet coffee, but the beans, not the froufrou drinks. Somewhat agree with the quote. The meal sounds good, maybe with cauliflower rice. Pass on the drink and wine (only because $$$).

I haven't  been to Monterey.

Another rainy, gloomy day here. I got the last of the outside decoration inside yesterday, although not put away. I'll be sleepy today, as I had to premedicate with Benadryl before my injection. I might be in the recliner soon, although I'm not a nap person (wish I could do it, but never can unless I have a fever).

Strange insurance issue. One prescription is $111 via mail order, but only $37 for the same amount at the local pharmacy.

@Seasick Sailor Enjoy St. Maarten.

@cat shepard Thanks for the wine recommendation. Unfortunately our state run wine and spirits stores don't carry it.

@kazu It sounds like you new doctor is on the ball, and yay to her getting you squeezed in today with the Ortho doc. Prayers for a decrease in your pain.

@smitty34877 Good to hear that Tana is feeling like eating today and that you're getting around pretty well.

@aliaschief I'm glad you made it home safely. I hope only good news from the Echo tomorrow.

@Heartgrove Good news on A1C improvement!

@rafinmd Thank you for our lists. PA's first ever black Lt. Governor was sworn in yesterday.

@grapau27 Good news that Sarah is feeling better today.

@Cruising-along Prayers for safe travels for DD and family. Thanks for the Monterey photos.

Prayers for the Care List and a Salute to the Celebration List.

Stay well everyone.

We are off the coast of Chile in the Humboldt Current. Just some up and down and an escort of Peruvian Boobies. We had our visit in Lima just in time. Someone in our GSA FB group posted an article that the protests are moving into Lima.  So grateful we got to see Peru. Next stop is Coquimbo/La Serena tomorrow. We will take an Uber into La Serena to see the Japanese Gardens and walk around the town.

Our internet problems have been solved with a lot of $$. We are now unlimited on 4 devices no needing to sign in and out.  We burned through our 4000 minutes due to our continued ignorance of the HA wifi. Now I can forward my good photos to my email so I can post them on FB. When I got kicked off I got back on but only dare to do so on my phone only.

Thanks for doing the reports Roy! Prayers for Sarah, Tana, Kathi, Jacqui and for all others on our Care List and for the people of Ukraine.

Pinnacle Grill food porn from last night. Halibut, steak tartare and crab cakes. We are truly lucky all food is top notch! Nancy

I have printed the directions, and we are leaving at 2:30 for a 3:30 appointment.

Winnie the Pooh was not part of my childhood.  BoxCar Children, Bobsey Twins,  Nancy Drew and any book about horses were my thing.  I found both Pooh and Paddington in college, and they became my two new best friends.

Good morning, Dailyites.  I was up before 8, surprised Pst hadn't beat me to his exercise class (at 8), but he slept in until 9:30.  Must be jet lag!  I had to laugh, @kochleffel, this is definitely me getting my exercise.1171002327_Noseisrunning.thumb.gif.2b1a9d18ff57ad66e292581d9f89136f.thumb.gif.551a5e3a1d741c4ea48d5378e5e40fdd.gif

I'm afraid to take a cold medicine, I'm afraid it will upset my also miserable gut...  (Oh, those food porn photos!)  So happy to hear that Jacqui has an appointment with the orthopedist.  Hope we hear soon how it went.

Anyway, we're supposed to get rain for the next few days , which we still need.  The reservoir is up to 89.6%, but it should be 100% by now, easily.  It's a bit dreary now, but no rain, so far.

We are definitely thesaurus people, ours on the dining room table is in shreds, as we do the daily cryptic crossword.   We have visited Monterey, but not by sea.  It is where my dear departed cousin's husband's brother lives....  can you figure that one out?

I did some laundry yesterday, and today I managed to do a bit more unpacking.  I lose energy very quickly and want to go and take a little nap...   Might do that now.

Hi Everyone,

All of the days are good IMO.

Used a thesaurus professionally, all of the time as I am a writer, Winnie the Pooh one of my favs from childhood and now is part of Disney (somewhat a Disney geek here) and love, love coffee.

Waiting for another Winter storm here tonight, number 4 this Winter. Bleaahhh!!!

Did not know about the $1 deposit for HAL cruises, will look at them. I read it will go through today too.

Can't say enough on how much I love the memes everyone posts!

Hope all are well, prayers for everyone. 🙂

A very late good afternoon from a sunny and windy central Texas.  We got rain this morning, but not enough to measure.  Our temperature was in the low 70s when I walked up to the mailbox.  After a long day, the house is clean, and I only have one small load of towels left to fold.

It's been quite a while since I used my Thesaurus.  Now, I just go to Google.  My parents and grandparents read Winnie the Pooh to me when I was young, and we read it to the DDs.  I remember when older DD was about 2 or 3 stopping in a store Disney World where she picked up a stuffed Winnie the Pooh, hugged it tightly, and said, "Pooh, I love you."  Hard hearted parents didn't buy it, but she got Winnie the Pooh for Christmas shortly afterwards, and I think it is still in the attic.  Younger DD wanted Tigger.  In honor of gourmet coffee day, DH had a gourmet coffee he made in the Nespresso.  I do not drink coffee, but love the smell of fresh ground coffee and fresh brewed regular coffee, just hot the taste.

I like the E. M. Forster quote, and when you are on a ship, you need to be flexible and enjoy whatever happens.

The meal sounds good, but I'll save it for another night.  Tonight, it will either be hot dogs or chili dogs, a real gourmet supper.  We'll pass on the drink, but the wine sounds nice but again pricey.

We were in Monterey in the fall of 2000 when we took the train from Texas to Chicago, to Oakland and back to Texas.  We spent two days in Oakland and drove to Monterey and did the 17 Mile Drive.  That was before digital pictures though.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, I hope you had a great day in St. Maarten.

@0106  Tina, good news on booking the cruise even if the deposit was not $1.

@cat shepard  Ann, your alternative wine sounds nice, and the price is good too.  I'll add one more thing to the first meme.  I felt good when I could get off the floor twice today.  🤣  No, I didn't fall, but had to get down to scrub part of the bathroom floor and clean the baseboards.

@kazu  Jacqui, your new doctor sounds like a keeper, and a lot like our PCP here.  I'm glad she could get you in to see the orthopedist today.  I hope that appointment went well.

@smitty34877  Terry, the best news is that Tana is interested in the recipes and feels like eating today.  It's good that you have healed enough to be able to physically assist her again.

@aliaschief  Bruce, I always enjoy the Q&A's with the ship officers.  Hope the echocardiogram shows everything is as it should be.

@Heartgrove  Jack, congratulations on bringing the A1C numbers down.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope your DH gets a good report from the othamologist today.

@durangoscots  Susan, you also have some very nice neighbors.  I hope the sun melted the black ice.

@Cruising-along  Carolyn, wishing your DD, DSIL and the grandsons a safe flight today.  Thanks for the pictures from Monterey.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, not only insurance for drugs, but all insurance is weird.  DH spent a couple of hours trying to sort out the motorhome insurance, and mainly trying to get into their web site since it has changed but no one sent a message about the change.

@ottahand7  Nancy, what good luck that you were in Lima before the protestors got there.  Coquimbo/La Serena is an interesting port.

@Vict0riann  Ann, hope you feel better soon and that the cold and colitis flare up are history.

@grapau27  Graham, I'm glad Sarah has an appointment next week, but wish it could have been this week.

Thank you Lenda.

We will call and see her  tomorrow and get her a trunk full of food etc and tidy her house.

Good Afternoon,

A few of you were asking, so here's our booking update:

Well I spent the bulk of last evening and today tracking down accessible suites on HAL and Princess for this fall, I just don't want to chance Dad's ability to stand up and walk a few steps.  Both sailings are in September, both to Alaska, and both fairly comparable; I have no suite experience on Princess, but I have stayed in Neptunes.  So much was already booked up that it's a miracle we found something, particularly with HAL because accessible suites are pretty limited.  And I had countless website issues with both lines, what would life be like if we didn't have website problems, it's amazing cruise lines manage to stay in business.  Anyway, we just have to make a decision between the two, but we're leaning toward HAL of course, Eurodam is a favorite ship and we will never criticize the Crow's Nest again after not having it at all on our last cruise, honestly I'll get down and kiss the floor.  But that's one reason we wanted to try another cruise line, it puts a lot in perspective.  Incidentally we looked at the Haven and laughed, what  NCL called a "penthouse" looked like a broom closet.  Celebrity had no availability, and Royal Caribbean, a line we've never sailed was also pretty much sold out at the suite level.  Carnival I wouldn't dream of trying.  And Oceania didn't have anything in September.

The HAL Alaska itinerary is a lot less expensive, but we like the Princess port stops better.  The Princess penthouse suites on Royal have a nicer layout with being able to close off the bedroom area, however the size of the Neptune balcony compared to Princess is laughable.  So I'll give it all a bit more thought, but I welcome everybody's opinions.

It rained off/on all day and it's cold, much more January like than the last couple of weeks that were starting to feel like early spring.

Dad's okay and we're meeting with two nurses tomorrow for another assessment, although this time it's with the V.A. and will be permanent rather than the shorter in duration Medicare home health.

Hope all of you are having a good day.

Hi Bruno

I can’t offer any advice on comparing cruise lines as I’ve never cruised on Princess or Royal Caribbean. Plus I’ve never stayed in anything larger than a regular balcony room.    I just wanted to say I’m happy to see your post that you are able to check into cruising again with your dad.     This is great news.    I’m sure you’ll have a great time in whatever you pick.   Stay healthy and have a great 2023!
