The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday March 12th, 2023

Good morning from a cloudy/bright and windy central Texas.  It is currently 56F and our high today should reach 64F.  We're into a week of cooler temperatures.

Last night I got 7 1/2 hours sleep with only getting up once.  By the time I woke up with the time change it was almost 9 am.  I wanted to thank everyone individually for their birthday wishes, but that would make the Daily way too long, and it's now on page three.

Vanessa, @JazzyV  thank you for putting me on the celebration list.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi,                               @cat shepard Ann

@grapau27 Graham                                     @puppycanducruise  Melanie

@Cruzin Terri Terri                                        @Heartgrove  Jack

@smitty34877  Terry                                     @RedneckBob RNB

@mamaofami  Carol                                     @ottahand7  Nancy

@ger_77  Gerry                                           @cunnorl  Charlene

@superoma  Eva                                          @aliaschief  Bruce

@RMLincoln  Maureen                                 @marshhawk  Annie

A very big, heartfelt thank you for starting my day off so nicely.   I really appreciate everyone's good wishes, especially those for many more years.  I'm planning on being around for a long time.  😄

We are planning on doing a drive-thru breakfast , so I'll read the Daily a little later.

Lenda

Good Sunday Morning Dailyites!  While I was reading this mornings' daily Furnando would not leave the desk, and in good cat fashion knocked off as much as he could,  now while I am trying to post, Tazi is demanding my attention.  This is wearing me out, and while I did sleep for 8 hours, I need to go back to bed.

DH said he would make omelets this morning, but I wont wake him up.  How did it get to be 11 already?

My mom used to put left over spaghetti sauce on mashed potatoes and tell us it was goulash.  (she did this on nights when Dad was out of town), So when I saw real goulash in a German restaurant in Helen GA, I have to admit, it smelled really good, but I wasn't brave enough to try it.  Now I think I will try to make it.

Spices grow molds easily, that is probably why it is important to use fresh paprika.

Because I was adopted, and had no idea of what and where I came from, I used Ancestry and found out that I was 42% Scandanavian.  If I look at my adopted parents history, on my fathers side, he traced it back to the Mayflower.  My grandmother on his side was a member of the DAR.  However it turns out that my mom's side was pro British, so that wiped out my chances of being a member.  How embarrassing!   I just really wanted to know why I loved certain things, why I could find my way around cities in Europe that I had never been to before.  Apparently no reason what so ever.  I just needed to create my own self, and leave the past behind. So, my story is that in another life I was a pterodactyl who got thrown out of the nest.  And leave it at that.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I've gotten into genealogy the past few years; trying to trace both my adopted Mother's family and my birth family. I have a hint of a name for my bio father and traced that name back to a slave owner many years ago; but there are lots of males to trace in that family to try to find "the one". I'll salute Girl Scouts and I was one. No outdoor flower planting yet in this climate. Good quote, although I didn't abide by it when I was working. I like goulash (both American and German). Pass on the drink and wine.

I haven't been to Klang.

Hopefully everyone remembered to Spring Forward! It's chilly and cloudy here. No big plans for me. I'll just putter around the house and relax. A friend's sister passed, so tomorrow BFF and I will go to the viewing to pay our respects.

@StLouisCruisers Thank you for our start today. It sounds like DH cleaned out that gutter just in time! I also started a birthday list but it's new, so I missed Mitzi's :classic_sad:.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Happy Birthday!

@Overhead Fred Happy Birthday to Mitzi!

@grapau27 Thank you for posting Fr. David's sermon today.

@rafinmd Sorry that the time change messed with your sleep.

@ottahand7 Too bad you missed the crew show. Enjoy the botanical gardens and the Chefs Table tonight.

@ger_77 Ugh on still struggling to get Outlook to work. Most people I know that use it have issues when they get a new computer.

@aliaschief Great memes.

@RMLincoln Good to hear you are starting to feel better and hopefully DH also soon.

@kochleffel I saw a sleep specialist on TV say that if we picked one time, standard time fit better with our normal circadian rhythms. Although I know people like it getting dark later.

@luvteaching Sorry to hear DH is back in the hospital, but good news that he's doing better so quickly.

@kazu I hope you are doing ok. Miss you.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay well everyone.

Good morning.  DD and DSIL are on their way home, so our weekend of babysitting seven-month-old DGS and four-year-old DGD is almost over. ‘Nuff said.

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to @Quartzsite CruiserLenda! 🎉🎂🎈

@Overhead Fred, happy birthday wishes to your Mitzi! 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈

@StLouisCruisers Sandi, great news on your brother getting his drugs!!  When DH was finally diagnosed with his cancer, a friend of mine's wife (now ex wife) worked for a major pharmaceutical company and got the information about a new drug to Chuck's doc, and got him approved for being covered by a grant.  At 8K a month, you know this was most kind of her, because we never would have been able to afford it.

@grapau27 Thank you for posting Father David. It means a lot to me, and I think the reason that I like him so much is he talks to us as a person, not a lecturer in a big class.  Tell Pauline to start celebrating her day today!

Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Ann, Dixie, Debbie, Graham, and our other Dailyites.  I'm definitely not a gardener, have worked with Boy Scouts but my only involvement with Girl Scouts has been buying cookies, and am not big on Genealogy.  I think I've been to Klang but will check later.  I'll pass on the Goulash.  I love the Leigh quote.

Special Bon Voyage to @Lady Hudson and hope your cruise is not impacted too much by the ship's problems.

Could have been worse last night but not a good one.  I went to bed an hour early but did not sleep in that hour and did not sleep past 3AM.  I think I'll be quite drowsy tonight.

Roy

Thank you.  We are onboard and looks like no problems other than the missed port.  Everyone getting a credit for 1/7 of their cruise fare.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Katherine

Annie, I know.  Isn't it wonderful that people can receive grants for these terribly expensive medications that are so needed?  No way could DB afford $10,000 per month!  Nice to hear Chuck got the medication he needed too.🤗

When I listened to Father David's sermon I was struck by what he said - "Even in the hard places and hard times of life, God will always be there to provide".  That is what happened this week with DB's grant.  🙏

I think Graham and Pauline believe in celebrating birthday weeks so she has probably already begun. 🥂 I think I'm going to take that to heart and see if DH wants to celebrate with me next month.  At the very least I want a cake!🎂

Mitzi thanks everyone for all the birthday greetings!

Niall and Emilee are coming over and they baked a Guinness chocolate cake for Mitzi. We are having chicken like Mitzi's mom used to make - bone-in chicken parts with egg/milk wash, dredge in seasoned flour, brown well in a skillet, put in the oven (covered) with onion and more spices, bake until falling off the bone, make gravy with the pan drippings. I am getting hungry just describing it!

Well good morning everyone. I set my clock back but it seems the world is on a different time. Without hopes of coffee for another hour I can’t seem to figure it out.
Happy birthday Lenda. Have a great day everyone no matter what time it starts.

Linda, thank you for the birthday wishes.  Somehow, I missed you when I went through the daily to post my first thank you to so many.  I was afraid I would miss someone, and I'll blame it on the time changes.  🤣

I hope you've had a great cruise, and that the remainder of the cruise is just as nice.

I'm in some kind of time warp, even my tummy hasn't caught on, the clock says 1:08 and I still have not had breakfast.  DH is now up, and going to make us omelets,  Yeah!

Since the upcoming cruise changed ports, DH wanted to do the BC Aviation Museum in Victoria, alas, that is not being offered on our cruise as an excursion.  Neither of us want to spend 130 + on high tea, unless air fare is included and it takes us to England, so right now, I'm thinking Natural History Museum, and nibbling our way past some shops...

Instead of stopping at beer places, I just want to try coffee at every port.

We have 5 sea days- since most of my cruises have been in the Caribbean, and I'm usually one deck above Lido in the smoking area (so you know I still have not quit yet...)  but i dont do anything on sea days but soak in sunshine, drink coffee, and exist.  What will motivate me on a Holland cruise, to get involved with something on sea days, that does not include trivia pursuit.  I know nothing, and when I look back on what I did know, it wasnt important enough to remember.

Good morning all!

When my dear Dad passed and I was going through his boxes of old photos, it spurred me to join Ancestry.com.  I've traced my Mom's side back to 1600's France, but only to the 1800's on my Dad's side in England and Germany.  I'm afraid I'm not consistent on looking at the site, too many other things have gotten in the way.

I was never in Girl Scouts, but was a Blue Bird in Campfire.

Yesterday I bought some Iris bulbs when we were at Costco, I think I'll plant them in one of my pots and also need to get some Sweet Pea seeds planted that I have.  Those will be started inside, it's a little cold to plant into the ground yet.  Perfect day to do that since it's Plant a Flower Day!

The Goulash looks very good, especially the first recipe.  But since it stresses to use only Hungarian paprika and I would have to find/order that, I won't be making it.  I remember when I was probably about 6, we had a neighbor who was Hungarian.  She gave me some Goulash one day after school -- being only 6, I remember thinking it was a strange thing to eat because it was new to me.  I'm sure it was authentic Hungarian and probably the spices were foreign to me then.  Interesting that I still remember that. I would probably love it now.

Will pass on the drink, but the wine sounds good.  Tonight we'll be having salmon.  DH and I must be in the minority, Daylight Saving Time has never bothered us.  Especially since retiring.  🤷‍♀️

Lenda @Quartzsite CruiserHappy Birthday!!

@Overhead FredHappy Birthday to Mitzi!

Sandi @StLouisCruisersI was SO happy to hear that your DB will get 100% funding for the meds.  Great news!!

@Lady HudsonBon Voyage!

Karen @luvteachingI'm sorry to hear that your DH is back in the hospital, but glad he's doing better.

Vanessa @JazzyVcondolences on the death of your friend's sister.

Good morning and Happy Sunday from a non day light savings Tucson. I double checked all the clocks including my iPhone, iPad and Fitbit to make sure they didn’t change because sometimes they do if I don’t have the right setting set.

Today is a lovely day and I actually heard the quail chirping in happiness when I took Blue outside this morning. I have some basil that I need to plant so will celebrate plant a flower day by doing that. Because they do flower if you let them grow.  I was in Girl Scouts for a few years. I wish I knew more about my ancestors.

I have made the American goulash version of today’s meal suggestion but it’s been a while.

Happy Birthday to Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser and Mitzi @Overhead Fred!!  Enjoy!  🎈🎈🎈

Sandi @StLouisCruisers, such good news about the financial help for your DB’s meds!  I can totally relate because a foundation is paying for my very expensive psoriasis meds. You really have to jump through hoops to qualify but well worth it in the end.

Have a great day everyone!

Carolyn, thank you for the birthday wishes.

The daylight savings time changes do not bother me that much, but after our drive-thru breakfast, DH decided he needed more sleep since he got up earlier than normal.  I think I slept later today because our bedroom was darker longer.  It faces west, which helps keep it darker later.

I also like not having to change the clocks when we're in Arizona.  In fact, until this year, we haven't changed the clocks for several years since we are usually in AZ when we spring forward and fall back.  Being so close to California, we just have to remember if we're on AZ time or CA time.  🤣  I like the fact that my computer has Arizona time as a time zone setting, but we have to play with the clocks that get the time automatically.

Annie, I’m doing the tea in Victoria with Jane @lazey1. I probably wouldn’t do it but I’m using my HIA excursion credits. I’m actually going to Victoria twice and the second time I’m going to Butchart Gardens, hopefully Jane will join me on that one too.

The smoking area on HAL ships is the Seaview Bar area and I think you will enjoy it. My DM loved going there for her smokes because it was such a nice area and you really can see the view of the sea.

Thanks everyone for all the contributions to the Daily and Fleet Report

Happy Birthday to everyone who's celebrating.

I feel like I'm one of the few that still always has cash on hand.  My two rules are that I always buy Girl Scout Cookies when they come to the door.  I also also buy lemonade from kids that set up a stand, although rare these days.

Genealogy.  My late Uncle spent years tracing family roots and nobodyseems to have interest.  When I buy a new PC I plan on looking at his hard work, perhaps updating the changes.

@marshhawki hope your DH enjoyes the aviation museum. Its not huge but has many interesting displays.  Dependimg on your time, the museum is at the airport, next to the town of Sidney.  Its a charming little seaside town with lots of shops and restaurants.
