Dont go to the casino. Just dont gamble.

Dont dress up like I am going to wedding. I am on holiday FFS.

Dont enter those game show things....whatever they are called.

Dont get involved in dress up nights. Too pretentious for my liking.

Dont disrespect staff. They are wonderful people. Especially those that clean my rubbish up.

Dont hog a seat at any of the bars making it difficult for others to get served. Some seem to think its their right like they are superior beings. Why have seats at the bars anyway?

Dont moan about things that to normal folk are a luxury.

Dont complain that its too hot. You went on a cruise to Greece in July you loon.

I’m curious about sitting at the bar, I’ll sit at a bar on a ship the same way I do on land, isn’t that what the chairs are for?

Unless a thermal spa, no pool (or pool deck), hot tub, only go to the  buffet for breakfast, no bingo, no spa services, no photos, no art auctions.

I must have missed that "don't hog a seat at the bar" thing.........WOW, seriously? I sail solo and that is my preference and  too bad if it so bothersome to some. It is an easy way for me to chat with folks and meet the bar staff as well. Why have seats? Because some of us like to sit in them. I didn't realize sitting at the bar was such a negative for some people........I guess that is why some of the lounges have tables and chairs😀....something for everyone!!!

No casino, no bingo, no acupuncture, no aromatherapy, no sound meditation, no yoga, no drink of the day, no chair hogging, no footprint analysis, no lgbtq get together, no friends of Bill W, no detox seminars, no smoking, no Tanzanite seminars, no gaming lessons, no spa, no needlepoint socials, no blackjack tournaments, no sabbath services, no Russelite seminars, no puffy ankle seminars, no jewelry showcases, no herbal medicine seminars, no mass, no service club meetings, no watch seminars, no veteran meetings, no supplements seminars, no Morganite seminars, no slot pulls, no pearl seminars, no passenger led religious services.

I enjoy sitting at the bar, especially when solo for the reasons you mention. But I do make a conscious effort to be aware of my surroundings and scootch over a bit when people are trying to get served. I assumed the previous poster was referring to the gangs who cluster around the bar after being served and create logjam for others. I also assumed he was being a little tongue n cheek.

Thankyou.

I WAS being a little tongue in cheek.

And yes it is when a gang of folk seem to think the bar and the bar staff are their personal servers.

This is especially bad of an evening at the Martini Bar on Celebrity, where it appears, this is the place to be seen.

During my less tolerant days, not many these days, i would lean right through them with my elbows out whilst getting served. And yes they do look at you as though you have no right to be there.

I wasnt referring to the odd person just sitting there relaxing, as in the main, they understand other folk want serving.

OK.....so the internet is very hard to read sometimes......tone doesn't always come across the same way to everyone. Thanks for the clarification.  Over the last few years I have gone away from those big ships and so sitting at the bar on smaller vessels is never an issue😀

I fall into this trap regularly on the net. My sense of tone, or humour, doesnt translate well. Especially when discussing with folk from different backgrounds, countries etc.

I type like I am talking to a mate in the pub.

Apart from the swear words.

Emojis can help. Not perfect but sometimes it is a way to separate where you are trying to lighten the mood in your text.

We don't eat dinner with people we haven't met previously. Even if it means waiting for a table.

We don't go to any of the large singing/dancing shows.

No spa services.

No door decorations. There is a number that tells us which cabin is ours.

We never play trivia but will listen if we're in the area.

We don't fuss about how things "used to be". We enjoy what is.

"puffy ankle seminars"-do they really have those?!😬😂!!!! What about the hairy chest contests? Not that I would want to participate, but I am not hairy. (I may have one gray chest hair!) If there was such a thing as a chest wig,  would I be able to participate then?!

My favourite post ever on here.😁

Passenger led religious services sounds very much like jumping overboard potential.

Oh, thank you. And no proselytizing at the dinner table. If you have to say a grace, make it short and don’t ask me to join you. No politics at the dinner table. No bragging about your job, finances, kids, house etc. Be self aware enough to know when you’re boring.

Hmm … this might explain why I generally prefer to eat alone.

LOL

I think I would burst out laughing if someone I didnt know suggested we say Grace prior to eating.

And if I did know them they wouldnt suggest it.

I never talk about work as my job is boring, and even I dont like it.

I brag about my wifes job because she is a Nurse, and we all should all brag about that.

I could brag about my wealth, but my wife is a nurse, so that would be a lie. As those in power dont believe Nurses should be well paid. Oooo political.

Dont do politics during meals either.😁

Never volunteered to participate in any audience participation during theater events... even when I know we could win.  I refuse to respond when the magician tries to ascertain who in the audience is most susceptible?  (I know it would be me as I use self-hypnosis to fall asleep each night).  My only claim to cruise-fame was mortifying. When I was in my late sixties I was sitting in the theater between my two parents, both in their nineties. My dad raised his hand when the cruise director tried to determine who had been married the longest? When Dad replied 72 years,  the director left the stage and came to us in the audience.  As the spotlight shone, he asked my father the secret to a long marriage and then turned to me, stuck the microphone in my face and asked, "Do you agree with what your husband just said?

I would another side. I don't want to spend my holidays answering every tiny detailed question about my job😬. I don't care if you find my job interesting, I am not your cruise ship entertainment and if I wanted to talk about work I would have stayed home and worked😂

We have twenty-ish family members cruising together in July.  About half have never cruised before, so those of us that have are answering a whole lot of questions.  We keep reminding them that there are so many things to choose from and that there will be things they want to do and things that won’t interest them and that’s fine, because it is THEIR vacation.  Our conversations have definitely brought to the forefront the things that I don’t do on the seas.

I don’t

- sit around the ship pool (unless it’s to watch a movie under the stars)

- use the hot tubs or the slides

- schedule any spa services

- gamble in the casino

- play any of those games to win items from the onboard shops

- hang out at the sports bar

- eat at the extra pay dining venues

- attend the Captains Welcome Toast/Reception

- buy bottles of liquor on the ship (or at the port stops)

- bid on any art at sea

- buffet, unless it’s my only option

- dress for themed nights (I have limited space in my suitcase)

- shuffleboard, basketball or ping pong

- watch TV in the cabin

- order room service (although I would, if my family woke up earlier)

I've tried or done a lot of things at least once or twice...but I have never...

* Worn speedos.

* Left empty plates/glasses in the hallway.

* Overfilled my plate at the buffet.

* Joined the belly-flop contest.

* Done a cabin crawl or slot pull contest or bought a painting from the art auction.

I disagree w this one.  Passenger led services are usually held in a private room and they don't bother anyone.  We sometimes attend Shabbat services on the ship.  We don't bother anyone as we are in a private room and people of any faith are welcome to attend if they wish.  I do agree that ANY public display of religious stuff is a no-no including saying a blessing before the meal.

DON

I have no issue at all with people doing stuff in private rooms. Thats their choice.

As long as the door is firmly shut.😉

I'll confess I rushed to Amazon this winter to buy "the Amazon jacket" once I saw one of my owners wearing hers.  I love it, but it only got cold enough for me to wear maybe 5 days.   Unfortunately it will be too warm to take to Alaska with me the end of April...

I don't dress for anyone but myself.  If people don't like the Old Hippie Lady, too bad.  The HAL dress suggestions do not say "no" to it...
