Vines glasses

If you want to take a glass of wine from vines they most likely will transfer it to a ‘regular’ wine glass.  They don’t want their good stemware disappearing and having to be rounded up.  I say ‘most likely’ because this is Princess and exceptions have been reported.

I say just ask them at Vines, problem solved. But with that in mind ,I order a glass of wine/cocktail,etc. all over the ship and I take the glass with me and I always set it down at a bar when I’m finished .I don’t leave it by the trashcan or in a hallway etc.

I think you’ll have as many answers as you will opinions. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer on this . I don’t think any bar on the ship expects you to drink it right there and return the glass to them . Perhaps the only place would be around the pool, probably they want plastic .

So true!  They chased me down once when I left Vines once with a drink in my hand.  I think they are responsible for keeping tabs on the nice red wine glasses.  😆

This has been our experience also.  Great synopsis.

Once the Vines bartender found out we were ordering wine in the MDR, he said we needed to stop at Vines on our way to dinner to get a better quality. He did serve it in the nice glasses and just asked that we return them after dinner which we were happy to do.

The wine glasses in Vines are very expensive special Riedel wine glasses of which I have some. That’s why you can’t take them with you. They are the rolls-Royce of wine glasses. Just make sure that you don’t accidentally drop one.

Look at this link…https://www.wineenthusiast.com/glassware/wine-glasses#filter:custitem_brand:Riedel…& you’ll see what I mean.

I know this all has historically been true in Vines.

However, the Vines experience has been so downgraded on my last 2 cruises, I wonder if they even have the 'special' wine glasses any more? On our last cruise (August), no one ever mentioned us not taking the glasses to the dining room and the servers were the same servers as at the International Cafe, so not even sure they were serving wine in the special glasses? I wasn't thinking about the glasses at the time, so didn't take note. I was more concerned about the lack of white wine choices.....

Anyone have really recent experience that can confirm these glasses are still special?

The Carribean Princess did not have the Riedel glasses in Vines this past January.

If you are particular about wine glasses, just bring your own.  If it isn't possible to take some from home, we stop by at a home goods store at our departure city and pick some up.  Very nice glasses can be found for around $5-$9 per stem.  We bought three of these in Athens (Zara Home) for $5 per stem and take them with us on our cruises.  If we break one (or three), who cares.

And we bought these in Fort Lauderdale at Home Goods for about the same price.  These we gifted to Vines when we left the ship.

I don't think SKY had the 'good glasses' either in Vines,  as I asked for a sippy cup, they said I could

just take the glass I had - with no mention of bringing it back.  and yes, I was 'chased down' once leaving Vines...

Riedel glasses still being used on Sky - but I will double check tonight to be sure !

We have been taking glasses away every night with no issue. If Vines is full, which it has been every night this cruise, you have no option but to take the glass away when you try and find a seat.

Thank you.  We'll be on Sky in May/June.

Right - I was in Vines tonight. Riedel glasses being used, and no one cared what you did with them. Taking them into the MDR was no issue.

Interestingly when we had drinks later in the Crown Grill bar, wine was also served there in Riedel glasses.

Don't tell anyone, but I am posting this from our cabin, sipping wine from a Riedel glass !

Same is true on the Ruby - Vines requests that the glass remain there. Since we knew the bartender so well, we walked away with the glass and brought it back to him after we left the casino.

Same thing happened to me - Vines does not want their good glassware ending up in a suitcase.

Ask for a glass to go.  The special Reidel glasses are pricey so they don't like for them to leave Vines.

Riedel has a Restaurant  Series that is used on the ships. They are lovely glasses but are not the $20-$80 stems sold in their other series.

What I have found to be true is that on the Royal class ships the “good” glasses are freely given in most bars and restaurants (barring upper decks of course). On Grand class ships they have been monitored more carefully.  My personal experience is pretty extensive with regards to this.

If you read thru these responses you’ll notice this trend.

They are wonderful glasses that do make the wine experience better! On the Emerald in January, our wonderful waiters took good care of us and we did leave with them a few times to dinner. When we’d get a glass at the end of the night, I’d tell them to put it in a “to-go” wine glass. Honestly, they usually gave us a bottle of wine to go! We had the premier package so they just kept bringing them out and we kept taking them! Needless to say, they were compensated nicely.

The wine glasses you speak of and covet are Reidel wine glasses. YES, it is a THING! I had the pleasure of working in a wonderful Italian restaurant and our owner treated us to a wine tasting seminar where we learned about the difference in "lipped" or Libby type wine glasses versus "non-lipped" Reidel wine glasses. And yes, there is a major difference!

We were actually hunted down by the Vines guy because we wanted to take our wine to the dining room! Seriously, we were not stealing them... I have my own at home but there was NO WAY in you know what, that he would allow it.

We are even willing to put a deposit on them in our shipboard account..... But no.

Luggage does not really allow a place for decent wine glasses.

Do you realize what a fortune that Princess could make by selling Princess logo Reidel wine glasses on board??????? Truly, this is a no brainer.
