Overbooked Cruise Offer

1st time on RCL.  Our Allure sailing May 15 is overbooked, so they are offering 100% refund plus 100% FCC.  What would you do?

Any other offers. Often there are multiple choices.

So a full refund plus credit of what you paid toward another cruise. .. unless I booked a super low fare 2 cruises for 1 price would appeal to me this far out. I'm retired though so one date is as good as another. Most of my hotel reservations are changeable with no penalty.

Rcl needs to change their model. They seem to expect a certain number to cancel which is no longer happening.

1 in college still and 1 of us tied workwise to school schedules somewhat. (start of school mostly).  MIL/FIL retired.  If we were empty nesters a no-brainer.

With so many involved I'd probably pass. There are probably plenty of retired folks like me who will jump on this offer. So no other dates offered?

If I had a cheap casino offer I'd also say no, depends on what I paid. The more I paid the more apt I'd be to take the offer.

I would absolutely take the refund and the FCC.  One of the reasons I try to book airfare that can be cancelled and credited back to points or $$, and refundable hotels, is so I can easily make last minute decisions like this.

Because of schedules, we're looking at the June 17th.  There are 3 booking numbers linked.  The way I see it we get a free 5-day cruise plus $300 per cabin.  Downside is it's 5-day not 7.  But its a free 5-day cruise.

[We are local in TX FWIW]

Am I high? LOL🤪

When oasis was oversold they were offered a free 6 day leaving 1 day later and the $300obc. This offer isnt quite as good as I've seen before. I dont I'd take a 5 day and $300 obc myself.

@TippytonI wouldn’t be sure it’s legit. It seems strange you can’t call somebody and they want you to go to a link. I personally would investigate a little further.

Looking at the link I think it is a scam....It is a site that you can create free surveys...I certainly didn't click on it though.

I'd never swap Allure for Voyager. Add in the fact that it's 5 days, not 7....no way.

[Cue Sad Trombone Sound]

I am a cynic by nature, and all of this came though my DWs email as she was telling me (I am the voice of reason).  I posted the whole offer here before I really looked.  I also have a penchant for taking things apart and trying to put them back together again.  As we were looking through options the math started not to add up.  They were still selling seats on our cruise, and I know how that works.  Then I clicked on the link - some survey site and no HTTPS in the address (my cue).  So I added dummy info, including a dummy booking number, dummy email, etc.  No stoppage- or data validation - that's all I needed.  I'm sure the next pages would ask for a CC number.  But alas.

Drama aside, it wouldn't work out anyway, and we have three booking numbers.  The "no calling" and "we will let you know if your booking changes by email" were the other pieces to the puzzle that didn't fit. Some guy named Adrian Dueker is going to get some emails.

I hate thieves with a passion.

Take the offer if you’d schedule allows. There are so many other sailings and ships in the fleet. It’s like when the airlines offer a premium to give up a seat on an overbooked flight. For years I was not in a position to take advantage of the offers. Now that I am, the offers don’t come. I would take their offer if I could find a close second alternative.

The e mail is totally legitimate.  Royal does use links like these.  I have personally had to fill them out in the past.

Man I wonder if they will select me.  Great offer!😀

Once we're retired or close enough to being more flexible, I'd probably be for rooting for one too.

Finally a voice of reason in this thread 🙌  I guess one too many people have gotten a call from their cable company and ultimately went to purchase a Target gift card to pay for their overdue balance.

My cruises are all casino comps, so no way would I do it.   I would get no refund except taxes and port charges and would lose some on my air.   No advantage at all, just lots of hassle.  Plus I would wonder if my freeplay would even transfer smoothly.   I'm on the May 21st Allure, so expecting they may do the same with this one.

We had a similar offer a number of years ago, on a different cruiseline. Ours came by phone call, on the Friday before a Tuesday cruise.  We turned it down, but then thought some more, and tried to call the rep who had called us.  She was gone for the weekend.  We called on Monday, took her up on it, and did the cruise about seven months later.

I think the main reason we were called was that we had air and shuttles all booked through the cruiseline.  She cancelled them, and rebooked everything once we chose a replacement cruise.

The amusing thing was that at the end of the cruise, we were pinged as we tried to depart. Security insisted that we go to Guest Services.  We did, we were told we had to take the refund of our unused OBC.  We said Sure, here's my credit card.  No sir, I have to give you cash.  So we got $1,500+ in cash to carry home with us.

Will you know immediately if they are accepting your offer? My cruise in April was overbooked but it turned out that they weren't telling guests immediately if their offer was accepted, so some people didn't find out until 24 hours before the cruise, which made it difficult to plan.
