The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday April 26th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  The Audubon Society is a great one and has been so informative for people around the world.  I'm reminded of them every year when the pelicans return to our river - which they did just last week - as it means spring has finally arrived.  I'd like to hug an Australian, but all the ones I know are still in Australia.  The Chernobyl disaster is one that will remain with many of us throughout our lives.

I'm sorry to say we didn't win our fortunes last night at the casino, but DH and the rest of us did have fun.  Maurice has asked me to express his thanks to all of you who wished him a happy birthday yesterday - he said "You really belong to a caring group of people."  I couldn't agree more.  We did have a good day, starting with breakfast at a hotel by the river where we watched the traffic, people coming and going, and a bunch of Canada geese trying to stake their claims on the riverbanks.  From there we went to purchase a couple of plants and ended up with a beautiful Boston fern and a golden pothos that are currently hanging out (literally) on our glassed-in deck.  A quiet afternoon passed, then around 5 we drove out of town to the casino where we were met by his adult children and enjoyed a few hours of dinner and penny slots.  When we got home there were a few birthday messages on the answering machine and then our sweet grandsons made a video call before they went to bed, always bringing laughter to DH.

Today we have to make a run to Walmart to pick up food for Sochi, and a stop at Staples to pick up coffee pods for the Keurig.  I had an email yesterday with a link for Staples to buy one, get one free box of coffee pods, so I ordered a couple of boxes of decaf (for me) and 2 more regular for DH and our guests.  Great prices, so now I just have to pick them up and stick them in the cupboard.

@dfishwishing you a very Happy Birthday with many more healthy and happy returns of the day.  I hope your drive to visit friends is an easy one and you enjoy the weekend to the fullest.

@1ANGELCAT sending good vibes as you go for your "panini press" as I like to call it.

@ottahand7thinking of you with care today as you remember the passing of your DH.  I do have a question for you though about something you wrote this morning - you said the jelly is out for the finches; what kind of jelly do you use?  We have a lot of finches around our house and if I can feed them jelly, I'd be more than happy to do so.

I'd like to try drink #2, will likely put it on the list for our next BHB, and would probably enjoy the cava as well.  I like the idea of the salmon power bowl and will tuck the recipe away for another day when I make salmon.  It's Friday night pizza night here, so after doing the shopping and putting things away, we'll look at the online menus to see what cheesy goodness will be enjoyed at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in turmoil.  Cheers to all who have celebrations happening today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll salute the Audubon Society. No Australian here to hug. We shouldn't forget Chernobyl and what it entailed. Funny Mel Brooks quote. Pass on the meal (fish), drink (well maybe yes to #2) and wine. I have been to Burnie, but not Hobart, Tasmania. Container ships are something we now rely heavily on.

It's already 61F and sunny. It will be a nice day, and rain tomorrow, before the big warmup. I stayed downstairs in the recliner last night, and got in 7 hours of sleep (yay). Still a bit stiff and sore, but I think it's starting to ease up. The furniture restorers were just here, dropping off my reglued and reupholstered dining room chairs, and taking an antique table to work on. BFF is going to his house for the afternoon, to mow the grass and do some other things. He'll be back this evening. I think I'll get my first shower, using the walk-in shower here on the first floor. I have instructions to stay off the stairs! I think I'll catch up on Call The Midwife, something BFF wouldn't want to watch with me.

@dfish Happy Birthday! And safe travels.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for our start today, and the Hobart photos.

@grapau27 Thanks for the explanations of the days. Nice beach scenery.

@MISTER 67 I hope your TB Lightning can rally back.

@seagarsmoker Great photo.

@smitty34877 Safe travels to your family traveling back to NH. I'm sure it was so nice having them there for a while.

@Mr. Boston I hope the open houses yield a buyer! Safe travels to ME.

@ottahand7 Hugs on the sad memory day.

@marshhawk My head spins regarding your work, but I'm glad you got some hours. Enjoy your Thai lunch!

@RMLincoln Thinking of you and your family after the loss of your DSIL. Prayers.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to those Celebrating.

Good morning and thanks all.  With a special thanks to those who stepping up for those who are away.

@dfish a very happy birthday to you!
@ottahand7 hugs on this day,  how supportive John is!
@aliaschief thank you for sharing pictures of your beautiful ship.
@Seasick Sailor we love the Merlin app as well.

It’s so nice to see all the birds coming back,  the Sandhills cranes, herons, tundra swans, finches….   And speaking of tundra,  it is actually incredibly beautiful,  small plants that grow close to the ground.  My favourite place to see it is up high on the Going to the Sun highway in Glacier national Park Montana.

@kochleffel thanks for the different drink recipes and info on Audubon.  I wasn’t aware.

@marshhawk extra hugs!

Our local great horned owls are nesting in the same place.

Good morning,

It's a rather dreary day here but rain isn't in the forecast. Never fear it's back with a vengeance tomorrow.

Happy Birthday @dfish! Safe travels and enjoy your day.

Today is some errands in town and I'm going to try a new water aerobics class. I'm taking a hiatus from PT so this will add a 3rd day of pool time which my body will enjoy. I also have to stop and top off the gas tank and get a few groceries. Nothing too exciting. I got the chocolate snickerdoodles made yesterday and that was the highlight of my day.

Happy Friday!

Good morning and Happy Friday from sunny Tucson. However it is supposed to be windy.

I like salmon power bowls and have a recipe I follow but really you can add whatever you like and have on hand and any grain you like. I use faro and add things like avocado, hard boiled eggs, radishes. I like the bowl concept because it is like a salad with lots of goodies. I’ve gotten tired of just salmon so a bowl sounds really good.

I would try drink version 2 because I would never buy watermelon liquor that is in version 1.

Vanessa @JazzyV, thank you for adding my DM to the care list, she really needs all the prayers and thoughts right now. She is better but still weak. We took her to the doctor yesterday for a follow up and her oxygen and BP was much better. She seemed more talkative too but still needed to use a wheelchair. I think she is finally on the mend. Thank you all for thinking of her.

Happy Birthday Debbie @dfish!!  🎈🎈🎈 Safe travels today. Enjoy your special day!

I need to get a new phone. I’ve been putting it off but in just the past two weeks I have been unable to download new apps. One for our new vehicle and then today I couldn’t download Joy’s @Seasick Sailorbird app. Frustrating.

Have a great day everyone!

@Haljo1935 sorry about that,  the photo was too high of a resolution and I never know until I try but CC has not been kind to me so I couldn’t edit it as soon as usual.

Here’s another one from a few weeks ago,   I rpresume this is the male, you can’t see the nest as it’s in a hollow of a tree.

Good morning all!

As Karen @luvteaching said, it's a dreary day here.  I may do a nursery run to my favorite nursery and look for some annuals to plant.

Three worthy days to celebrate.  I'll pass on the red wine, would like to try the second drink recipe, and the 2nd meal recipe.  We were in Hobart on February 27 on the Grand Australia.  We had a great tour to the Botanical Gardens and to the top of Mt. Wellington.  After the tour DH and I took advantage of the cooler weather (compared to what we'd been having) and walked into town to pick up some things at a drugstore.  We really enjoyed that day!

Happy Birthday and safe drive Debbie @dfish!

Roy @rafinmd I'm delighted that your PSA numbers are trending down -- great news!

Vanessa @JazzyV Wonderful that you slept 7 hours last night!!  That must be a record, and I'm so happy for you.

Here are some photos of our day in Hobart.

I tried to find photos different from the great photos already posted by Sandi @StLouisCruisers

Botanical Gardens

I was fascinated by this plant "Banksia".  It was all over Australia, different colors depending on where it grows.  Here the flowers were yellow.  Other areas had orange or red.

Happy Friday, Dailyites!

I also vote for drink #2. The instructions for both versions reminded me of Mixology classes on our BHBs - "muddle, don't murder!"

Happy Birthday @dfish Debbie! safe travels!

Follow-up to the toilet installations - after three weeks and 6 visits, I finally have all 4 in place and working! And the HVAC guys are coming back this afternoon (they promise!) for visit #2 to install the humidifier & air purifier. Almost done!!

I hope what happened to my Bruins last year does NOT happen to your lightning. Out in the first series!

Cat, it doesn’t look good for the Lightning.

Thanks for posting this - the owl is very pretty.

Apologies for the duplicate post; don't know why it happened, but by the time I saw it, it was too late to remove it.

Bruce @aliaschief I enjoyed seeing the photos of the Azamara Onward today.  I kept thinking this ship looks like a ship I've been on.  And now I realize it was the Pacific Princess which we cruised on only once in 2018 from Venice to Ft. Lauderdale.  I'm sure a lot of work went into refurbishing the ship by Azamara because there were some problems with our balcony door during the sea crossing.  It was leaking and got the carpet wet.  You could see where it had caused damage to the interior for some time.  But it was a beautiful ship then and is even more beautiful now.

Nancy @ottahand7 sending hugs to you on this important date in your memory.

Vanessa @JazzyV I'm very happy to hear you report you slept 7 hours last night!  Enjoy that nice shower and watching Call the Midwife.

Sharon @Sharon in AZ I hope your DM is feeling stronger and more like her old self again very soon.

Annie @marshhawk and Chuck, I hope you are having a nice day.  I hope the work situation is settled to your satisfaction.

Graham @grapau27 you must be enjoying the back garden today.  It's such a pleasant and calming view.

Carolyn @Cruising-along I've very much enjoyed your photos today of Hobart.  It really is a nice town, isn't it?

Elizabeth @Haljo1935 please stay safe and alert today!  I believe there is an FC Dallas U17 vs. St. Louis City SC U17 soccer game at 9 am tomorrow and I see Frisco is expecting high winds and rain in the morning with thunderstorms in the afternoon.  Not an ideal day for a game.   The St. Louis team needs this game to qualify for an upcoming tournament.  Dallas does not need it since they've already qualified so they somehow need to get this game in the books for St. Louis City's sake.

Good morning everyone.  It is a beautiful morning and a nice day coming up.   Thanks for the daily and the maps, Sandi, Rich and Roy!   It would be easy to hug an Aussie on a BHB, there is always some of those citizens on HA ships.  Audubon Society is a great organization, we are awaiting the arrival of the Baltimore Orioles and the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks due here any moment.  The jelly has been out for a week, the finches have been enjoying it.   Chernobyl put a taint on nuclear power, along with Three Mile Island.  We need to reconsider it to reduce all the reliance on polluting fossil fuels.  They are working on recommissioning a plant nearby on Lake Michigan.   A funny quote by Mel Brooks.

Thanks for the Daily comestibles each day @cat shepard, @0106 and @kochleffel.   I will pass on salmon, always.    Today's Cava sounds like a winner and hoping for a good cocktail for a BHB.  Sounds like one.

Vanessa thank you for the Cares and Celebrations reports.  @RMLincoln I hope you made it home safely and sympathy for your family in the passing of your SIL.  She is no longer suffering,  I hope you can be a help to your DB and his family.   @smitty34877 I am sad to read your family's visit is winding down and continued prayers for Tana.  Prayers for @ger_77 DH, @Cruzin Terri for her DH and for Annie and Chuck @marshhawk.

John insists on taking me to lunch today.   Today is the anniversary of my late DHs passing in 2015.   He was in hospice for 13 days before he passed.  I prefer to work with my plant sale plants in the sun but I have to recognize the thought.  I am surprised he is leaving the house with the Draft showing.   I had a very good trip to the meat sale arriving with number 28 being waited on and I had #41.  Only a 20 minute wait, last year it was almost an hour.  Then I went to their garden center and bought a flat of tomato, squash and cucumbers to pot into bigger pots for the sale.  Sun and fertilizer and they will really take off.   Have a lovely Friday.  Nancy

Sending you hugs on the 9th anniversary of your DH passing.
