Has anyone cruised Florida to New Jersey

Recommended Posts

We are looking at cruises for our anniversary and saw one that leaves from our home port and ends in New Jersey. It’s 10 days on Celebrity. Has anyone experienced this run? Any pluses or minuses for a cruise like this?

Hello @FloriDUHMan and welcome to Cruise Critic and the message boards!

Thank you for your first new thread on the Ask s Cruise Question forum. However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry is off topic there since it concerns a specific cruise line. To help you out your new thread has been moved to the Celebrity Cruises forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed on Celebrity frequent the forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list of the various forums. I suggest you put the link to the page in your bowser's Favorites for quick & easy access in the future. Please read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following portion from the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will post replies to you.

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention the cruise line, ship, sail date or port in your inquiry message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you.

Once you book your cruise, be sure to check if there is an existing Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your cruise. If not, feel free to start one! And don't worry about any responsibilities in starting a Roll Call thread. Roll Calls belong to everyone; there is no designated leader or owner. It does not matter who started the thread.

Please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the Guidelines.

The specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your ship, line, and sail date is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together! Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that may have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, they may have already posted share requests that may interest you. Roll Calls are for Cruise Critic members on the same cruise. They get to know one another online before their cruise so there will be all kinds of discussion in the Roll Call thread for their cruise!

If you ever need technical help in regard to using the Cruise Critic message board software, go to the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum. You will see a large amount of "How to..." pinned threads toward the top of the forum's first page. Also, browse through the threads in the forum looking for threads of interest. Again, you may find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are soooo glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

Thank you. Yes, it is a repositioning cruise. The flight home is cheap. We would just have to pack strategically. We just weren’t sure how all those sea days would be.

Something is missing here. You can't sail from Florida to NJ without a stop in a distant foreign port, like Aruba. Maybe Bermuda?

Bermuda isn't a distant foreign port.

Aruba is.

What is the itinerary? Again,  you can't sail from Florida to New Jersey without a stop in a distant foreign port.

We have done this cruise.  It visits the ABCs .

To the OP if you like sea days it is a great cruise.  We have done it once and were booked to due the NJ to FL in October but had to cancel due to health issues.

Yes, it is the ABCs. Thanks for the insight. I don’t mind sea days, but the pools do seem to be more crowded. This will only be our second cruise, so we’re learning as we go.

The repositioning cruise does stop in a distant foreign port so no worries there.

The ABC's are great ports of call and IMO would be well worth the rest of the repositioning days.  We also like repositioning cruises as they are usually priced well and offer a good mix of ports of call and relaxing sea days.

Aruba is the far and distant port that allows transport from one US city to another. The cruise lines usually reposition on an ABC island itinerary. I have been looking for one of these. I would rather go to New York though. Princess runs this route to NY every so often. They had one this year but the timing didn't work for us.

Nothing amiss.  While Bermuda would not fulfill PVSA, Aruba does and this cruise stops in Aruba.

We did this cruise in 2023 and are booked for 2025.  It is one of our favorite itineraries. The four sea days after the ABCs are so relaxing and the temps cool off a bit but not too much.

That was what I was asking...I am very aware of the PVSA's requirements. That is why I made the comments. Just seeking clarity.

We did similar itinerary on NCL Prima earlier this year (MIa - NYC via ABC's).   Have also done ABC's r/t from NJ years ago on Silhouette.  Found these itineraries very relaxing with older crowd and few kids.

I would book that cruise as the rate is one of the lowest that I have seen from Celebrity for a Southern Caribbean cruise.  However, I am already booked on cruises in March and April on the Regal Princess and Carnival Magic that visit Curacao and Aruba.

The one drawback of these Southern Caribbean cruises is that they tend to have more sea days.  Also, unlike other ABC cruises, there are no intermediate cruise stops like Barbados.

One advantage of the cruise is that it does visit Bonaire which is one of our favorite (and quietest) cruise ports which is generally visited by smaller, more expensive cruise lines.

I was looking at that itinerary last night on my TA's website.  I wish that I could go.

We did this this cruise last year in April and are doing it next April with cousins.

We enjoy this trip, because we love the ABCs.  We also enjoy sea days.  Arriving in Cape Liberty in NJ is a bonus, because we catch Amtrak back to our hometown in Connecticut.  We'd rather deal with the airport in the beginning of the trip. 😉

You will have a good time

We also did this cruise in April of '23 and loved it.  The ABC islands are easy and pleasant to visit, and we enjoy sea days.  We were on the Summit, but I think that a larger ship will be an improvement.  It is not the most exciting vacation but it is very relaxing.

Enjoy!

How does Bermuda not fulfill PVSA?  We sailed from Manhattan to Bermuda and back.
