Paula B Posted January 30, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) We have a obstructed view on the Crown E415 for a 10 day March cruise. I got a offer from my TA that Princess is offering upgrade for $499 a person. From my research it looks like we would be savings about $600 a person. We really appreciate everyone's opinion since we have never had a offer before. Thank you Edited January 30, 2020 by Paula B forgot to Check the box for notication

KevintheIrishDJ Posted January 30, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Most upgrades are expensive. We always get obstructed view.

Rare Tak8 Posted January 30, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Basically one thousand to get a balcony. That doesn't sound great to me. I like balconies, but I assume when you booked you were happy with the type of cabin you booked. For one thousand, I'd want to get more.
Rare CineGraphic Posted January 30, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2020 That's an extra $50 each per day for the privilege of sitting on your own private balcony. I can think of better ways to spend $1K, and there's plenty of places where you can sit in the sun and fresh air for free. If you feel the need to spend the money for fresh air and sunlight, why not just book the Sanctuary....at least you'll have waiters to serve you.
fishin' musician Posted January 30, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Offer $200 each.
Rare Ombud Posted January 30, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2020 That's an upsell not an upgrade. But at any rate only you can decide if you would have originally booked the balcony if it was $499pp more than the obstructed view (I rejected a BB to mini for 499pp on the B2B and accepted a OF Plaza Deck to BD Caribe Deck on the 2nd half of B2B for 199pp as it was worth that to me)
Paula B Posted January 30, 2020 Author #9 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Princess said it's a exclusive offer and said it is a Upgrade from obstructed view to a balcony cabin. If we choose to except it's $1,200 cheaper then the balconies are costing now. Thank you all you've gave us something to think about.
brunoseas Posted January 30, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2020 I have been in both had good cruises in both type of room your upgrade is costly so only do it if you really want a balcony .Personally I would rather spend that extra money on trips or specialty dinning. If you get a balcony for a few hundred difference then its worth it but that price is costly .Enjoy what ever you decide.
Renmar Posted January 30, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2020 We only would do it if it was for a Caribe deck balcony and then still would offer no more than fishin' musician said, but that is us. The obstructed cabin you have now is one of the better ones on the Crown. Theo
Paula B Posted January 30, 2020 Author #12 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Thanks Theo, I did a lot of research and especially picked that cabin a year ago when I booked because you have a clear view out the window. Thank you

I'd have only gone for it if it were $149 pp. ... no more than that. We recently got one of these so called 'exclusive upgrade opportunities'. It was about $500 more than we could have gotten it for at the time of booking. I turned it down, too.

KevintheIrishDJ Posted January 31, 2020 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2020 This is known as a upsell. An upgrade is free.

Remember you are not buying the cruise now so current costs are meaningless. Play just a bit in the casino and you will get offers for as low at $199pp for a balcony week. No one knows how much "a bit" is. Some play a lot and never get an offer. We've gotten one offer after using about $100 OBC. Left the casino maybe up by $10 or so. You can't register for the offers. They happen or they don't.

NC for 3rd person to upgrade, supposed to get champagne on boarding, now wondering if that's a 1/2 bottle or glass, 2nd & 3rd persons are minors. san diego sue Posted February 4, 2020 #24 Share Posted February 4, 2020 Just got an upsell offer a few minutes ago. My current is a nice location Caribe deck balcony on the Coral . Princess asking $699.00 per person to upsell to a mini suite. Total would be 1398.00 on a 19 day cruise. I just checked and it is a bit cheaper than current price offered but I am passing. I would love the mini suite and have had them in the past on this ship but don't think it is worth it.Now if this was a true upgrade, would be dancing the happy dance.
