Diamond Princess Update: The Japanese Ministry of Health has confirmed the quarantine end date will be February 19, unless there are any other unforeseen developments. We understand and empathize with the frustration of many of our guests, crew, and their families across the world during this ever-evolving situation. Thank you for your continued patience during this challenging time. http://*****/38cSolS

Apparently more pax have tested positive ..so does that mean an extra 14 days confinement ??

how does one differentiate with the dreaded cruise cough or cold and this virus ...how many of us leave a ship and come home with it ?

can crew members still clean cabins ?

ifi were confine to my cabin I.d be going nuts the only ones who might not be so badly off are balcony people who are allowed outdoors

Practically all of this has been answered in the previous pages. Other members shouldn't have to waste their time clogging up the thread with the same responses because a few people can't be bothered reading.

I can’t find a clear answer to your first question. Anyone able to give us a source? Does count go back to zero if more passengers test positive?

Are you on the ship?  If not this is an academic question!

The technical question is the following

1) Has the isolation of people to their cabins and limited interaction stopped any additional transmission?

2) Has the protection the crew has been doing been good enough to not spread to themselves and / or other passengers

3) If 1) and 2) are 100% perfect ( and we know they can't be!  and the incubation for the other 2000+ people is always less than 14 days, and they always develop symptoms if they have it, and will tell people so they can be confined,  then likely 14 days is good enough to contain.

You know that 1) and 2) and 3) are likely not 100%, 1 and 2 probably good but 3) probably very low, there will be people carrying the virus that leave the ship after 14 days whenever the clock ends

Seems like information is pretty fluid.  I think somebody posted they could leave quarantine on 2/19.  From David Abel’s Facebook posts you can get a lot of updated info.  He’s a passenger onboard. https://m.facebook.com/david.abel.75

Only passengers with symptoms were being tested for Coronavirus so there may be more cases not showing severe symptoms.  The crew is currently not cleaning any cabins or changing linens but David indicated in a recent video that if they leave their linens outside their doors they will be replaced.  The people in cabins without a balcony are allowed 1 1/2 hours of outdoor time with masks, gloves and distance between people.

Hope this helps.  Going back in the thread can be time consuming and updates are good for new viewers.😀

The WHO needs to shut down cruises right now!  Going on a cruise right now is like playing Russian Roulette.

Someone else reported this as well.  Local news articles by me (NYC) are covering possible cases of Coronavirus on the Anthem of the Seas.  The only good thing is at least they’re docked in the USA but if any cases are found they’ll probably be shipped off to a local military base in NJ or Brooklyn for quarantine (the ones with no symptoms).

Now that is a knee jerk reaction right there.  Why stop at cruises?  Why not flights?  Or trains?  Hell, let's just stop all travel all over the world.....

Well to be fair if you have cruise ships being turned away and unable to dock anywhere it sounds like cruise lines need to maybe just stop and figure out how to manage the situation because I have to be honest it is quite baffling why they would still be sailing certain routes when their destination countries have clealy laid the new rules for entering their countries.

I just don’t “get” why they would

allow 5,000 people to disembark if they don’t even know if the people they sent for testing are negative for coronavirus.  I’ve been on that ship and there are so many “touchy” activities like bumper cars, trapeze etc. with many ways to transmit viruses.  For the first time ever in my cruising life I got norovirus on that ship (and I worked on cruise ships for 5 years). It was also filthy on my cruise.  I feel bad for the people embarking today. If any of those tests come back positive they’ll be quarantined for sure.

Haha, are you serious? While we are at it we may as well just cancel all music events, football games, gatherings etc....the list goes on. Making comments like that are just ridiculous and uneducated.

Your synopsis is correct especially "carrying the virus that leave the ship after 14 days."  New Jersey has a problem on their hands - different cruise ship, but this time docked in a US State.  The R0 of 4.0 keeps snowballing.  That R0 4.0 is now more than that.  All infected on RCL, are ALL Chinese nationals.

A Royal Caribbean cruise ship that has 12 passengers quarantined over fears of coronavirus has docked in Bayonne, New Jersey, this morning with ambulances on the scene.

The "Anthem of the Seas" arrived in New Jersey just hours ago, at about 6AM, in thick dense fog, according to ABC 6. Several ambulances were on standby at the scene.

The passengers in quarantine will all be tested by the CDC, who was also awaiting the arrival of the ship on the scene. The passengers of the ship are all Chinese nationals - many of whom started exhibiting symptoms while aboard the ship, which was coming back from the Bahamas.

It might come to that.  If the Chinese can lock down 400 million people, we can certainly lock down any venue where people congregate and pass the pandemic on.  The CDC and WHO haven't reached that point here in the US - YET.  It might come to that....

Sorry for the delay in getting back folks. We have rotating teacher strikes going on here and we have one of our grand daughters with us.

After checking to see if there was any possibility of canceling without a major hit, we were told NO. We asked if we could postpone the trip or receive a credit. Again NO.

We asked if there were any outside cabins available. Once again NO. The ship is apparently 100% booked.

Looking at  the stats this morning as to the location of the infected persons, it turns out that 99% are in China, The other 1% are spread around the world. So, we have decided to go on the cruise and enjoy ourselves. Should Princess make any changes such as cancelling the cruise, I would still be fine with that.

I sure feel for those on the Diamond. It has been reported that the number of confirmed cases on the ship tripled overnight from 20 to 61. I am not a medical professional but I really wonder if it is wise to keep the pax on the ship. Surely this can't be helping the situation. I can't imagine what they are going to have to do to ensure that ship is 100% decontaminated before the next pax get on, whenever that is.

Thanks for the input folks.

It really wouldn't be a huge hardship for people to give up nonessential travel and gatherings for a few weeks to let things stabilize.  We really have become quite spoiled, I think.

wow....you have 12 confirmed cases.....12.... you have a population of circa 330million so 0.00000008% of the population has it, lets just shut down the whole country.....unbelievable.

Are you advocating that?  400 million are on lockdown in China - a new lockdown.

While I agree with you, it's wishful thinking at best. People are selfish.  I'd assume most, if not all, know someone who comes to work even when displaying cold/flu symptoms, no matter how many times we're told to stay home.  It's just the new norm unfortunately.

Exactly, except for travel is a huge industry.  Think about how many people move around on this planet on a given day and spending money to do it.  I expect to see shortages of goods coming from China for a while.  What will Wally World and Target' do?  As I do for every cruise, I prepare for the what if's.

Same goes for travelers who are sick.  Remember when we had to fill out those health forms before boarding the ship?  No one filled them out truthfully.  You've planned for months, maybe years to go on a cruise.  You waited, paid out the money and the time is here for you to board.  No way are you going to say "I'm sick."  I was healthy when I went on board, and I got off the ship sick on the Star Princess to Hawaii.  I was laid out for a month!  You get in line and take your chances.  The woman in the cabin next to us never left her cabin the 14 days on our cruise.  She hacked/coughed/barfed.  Did the cabin steward transfer her crud to our cabin?  Only time I left the can of Lysol at home.  Got it packed for the next one....my bad.

NCL pulled the Spirit back from Asia. She was to head there over the next few months for April-November. She is  to sail from Greece weekly.

I would have expected the plan to be isolate until the results come back then take from there if all fine great.  If not the 14 day clock would have started on the ship from the 1st day the passengers were isolated.  Failing that at least delaying the next lot boarding so as to contain any potential problem

That plan and similar future ones would go a long way towards preventing the need for city shut down.   If this goes the other way then there are a lot of passengers who are going to be asked to self isolate (and will they do that 100% not go to work /shop etc) and a 2nd lot who will be on a cruise that probably will not be allowed in any port of call and that could end up being isolated if any B2B on board or any crew get sick.

I cannot work out how these people have been treated so different to the non symptomatic US citizens that have been brought back - compare the suits the plane to isolation escorts wore with what the paramedics have on to take away actual sick people

China are in lockdown because the virus has originated from there. Simple as. With over 30,000 confirmed cases it's completely different to the states 12 cases. If you want to carry on with the fear mongering go ahead.

Yeah it originated there, and now it's here.  That's how it spreads - people traveling and spreading it.  Spanish flu originated in China in 1918 and it spread as well - by sea - not by airline and it killed millions.  History repeating itself?
