Where are the ships going now?

Hurricane season starts 15 May in Pacific; much safer for the ships to be in Los Angeles than Mexico.  Of course, Ensenada is pretty far north so not really in harms way.

If they are going to move solely to get out the the way of hurricanes, wouldn't it make more sense to do so only if and when one threatened?  Hurricane season in the Atlantic will probably be underway before they will be able to sail with passengers, anyway.

Having 40 or 50 ships just anchored off the Bahamas for hurricane season probably not very smart; of course, they can just move out of way of storms like they do normally but it would seem safer place to put them could be found.  On the west coast storms rarely get farther north than Southern Baja, easy to leave them farther north.

Slowly, anticipated arrival 9 May so they are making a three day trip into a 14 day trip.

Is this to satisfy quarantine requirements so that people can disembark there?

It must be very stressful for crew members still on ships waiting to hear how NCLH and other cruise lines can circumvent the bureaucracy preventing their repatriation.

Navigator should arrive in Costa Rica on April 30.  That is all I know at this point.

She has to drop off European crew first.  I think she might stop in Miami or Bahamas to pick up more crew to repatriate before crossing the Sargasso Sea.

Interestingly none of the ships are from the NCLH Group.

 

There are now ten cruise ships in Manila Bay.
Nine are at anchor but one is moored,  so hopefully the crew are being allowed to disembark and return to their families.

............... but huge worries about their future employment prospects.

 Crew members from the Philippines will have to go through a 14 day quarantine in a government facility.  This is a change from the recent past when they could quarantine at home.

 

On the positive side, I've seen photos of the crew on the ships and they were having a great time (and stayed safe which is most important).  They are staying in guest suites and even had a barbecue on the Pool Deck.  While not the same as being home, they appeared to be happy, smiling and enjoying their time on the ship.  Just seeing them put a big smile on my face!

 

When Regent is able to cruise again, I have no doubts that these wonderful men and women will return to Regent.  And, IMHO, this will happen sooner rather than later (as long as people continue doing the distancing that is required to keep all of us safe!

Many thanks to all of you for this detailed info on where ships are.

 

We have a cruise booked in October from Istanbul to Venice  on Splendor  (having already had a May cruise cancelled).  We would dearly love to be able to do this one. 

 

Splendor is currently taking bookings from 3 July in the Med.  This seems rather late to arrive for the European market, and it is not obvious that they will be able to get a crew together in time to cross the Atlantic by July.  Unfortunately we are supposed to pay the rest of the cruise by the end of May, probably before Regent choose to tell us they have cancelled after all. 

 

We are still waiting for a refund from Oceania.

 

Any further inside news would be really helpful.

I was hoping that the staff would be upgraded to above decks.  I bet that there will be some great stories as to what they were up to during this time.  We are all very glad that they are safe and healthy.

Explorer is at Port Canaveral.  Navigator arrived at Puntarenas Costa Rica this morning.  Voyager is a slow boat to Mumbai but at least arrival date has been moved up four days.  Mariner and Splendor still enjoying the beaches of Southern California.

One guess is that they are dropping the crew from India off in Mumbai - not sure if trains are running there are if someone could pick them up.  Then, they may go on to the Philippines and Bali.  This seems logical to me but may not be correct.

Interesting!  This shows how much the Navigator needs this refurbishment.  It is a shame that this ship is such a money pit.

 

In terms of your previous posts, if we ever meet onboard a Regent ship, I'll share the story (not long) of our luggage not arriving until we were in Agra (the luggage was in Mumbai) and a man was instructed to deliver it to us.  Wow - such a long way!
