Cruise Ship Locations - During the cruise ship ban of 2020/2021/2022

Recommended Posts

At the moment I believe she is only doing intrastate cruising.  Not sure about the protocols for cruising whether they allow passengers from other states to go and what the testing is.  Originally her itineraries were set prior to state borders being open hence only 4 days/nights in Victoria.

I'm working on a proper review of the Sky, but I'm notoriously bad at that, so will at least jot down some notes here for you fine people.

A very casual setup with APT. We had a rough idea of the itinerary, but it got changed up a bunch based on availability and what seemed like a good idea at the time. I was pleased to find out they'd arranged for us to spend the evening of New Year's Eve parked in the bay, where we had a lovely view of the Melbourne city skyline and a few sets of fireworks.

Cabins were large and comfortable. Maybe they look old fashioned, but it felt more period than dated to me. I am slightly biased, we somehow got a free upgrade from the standard suite to one with a bath.

Food was amazing and plentiful, though only available during fixed mealtimes. Which were also plentiful. Most meals were served down in the restaurant as well as outside on the Lido deck.

Staff were super attentive, friendly and helpful. Having just under 100 passengers makes it a bit easier to have special attention.

The excursions were good, but it's pretty obvious they haven't done a lot of Victorian touring before. I expect the excursion staff are a bit more polished and ready to answer questions in places like the Kimberley where they've done a lot more tours. There were definitely times where organisation was clearly lacking, and if we'd been on a cruise with thousands instead of a hundred people it would have been bad. As it was, there was a bit of excess queueing in the sun that could have been avoided, but nothing serious. Zodiacs are fun.

Have some pictures.

A few days ago, Caledonia Sky had a little excursion from Hobsons Bay Anchorage out into Bass Strait. Then she turned around and located to the Port Phillip Bay Outer Anchorage.

Vicports has her listed as departing for Fremantle 20/1.

🤔 Is Mark McGowan going to let them in? I doubt it. All Australian States are deemed Extreme Risk.

"Travellers from medium, high, and extreme risk jurisdictions are not permitted to enter unless approved.

Exemptions are restricted to Commonwealth, State and specialist functions only;

If permitted entry, you will be directed to undertake 14 days hotel quarantine at a Government approved quarantine facility at your own expense." Source

The hermit kingdom has declared every state ABF territory extreme risk.

Supposed timeline for opening was 5 February. I am not booking to go and see mu until I know what is really going to happen.

Caledonian Sky was scheduled to leave Adelaide today for a 7 night coastal cruise. Then sailing for Fremantle 17/1. So, sitting in Port Phillip Bay is a bit of a hinderance.

The CDC has lifted its orders and ships are sailing around the pacific. Many are now sailing to Hawaii, with the Oceania Insignia heading onwards from Hawaii on its round the world sailing to New Caledonia (a 2 hour flight from Brisbane International) and then onto Bali (a 2 hour flight from Darwin). It will arrive at these ports early Feb.

How has it gotten like this? Scotty is detached from reality. We can sit and see the cruise ship off our coastline.

The CDC has temporarily extended the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) until January 15, 2022. We shall wait and see if it is extended, again. They have also advised the following:

"People should avoid traveling on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide, regardless of vaccination status."

I think that she deserves a special mention too.

A lot of Australians enjoyed a cruise on her when she used to come down here.

She was our favourite Princess cruise ship until we went on the Sapphire.

Thanks Stu for letting us know where she is.

Doesn’t it make you all warm and fuzzy that our Government - State & Federal - cares so much about our welfare that we can’t start cruising yet🤔

Yes ,it’s just like a Disney fairytale,it gives such confidence.

You wonder how they would handle a regional conflict.

I suppose attitude would be , This is not a race ,we are not trying to win a race.

I drove along the beach this morning coming back from physio.

out in the anchorage I saw what looked like a small cruise ship.

Turns out it is the Coral Adventurer. Came in yesterday, scheduled to leave tomorrow for Fremantle.
