I’m interested in the storage battery concept  - until relatively recently they haven’t made a lot of financial sense. We installed panels under the early Feed in Tariff scheme in 2010 and they’d  repaid the £14,000 cost by 2017. The maximum allowed was 4kW at the time, but it’s been a very good investment, bringing in around £2000 a year on top of the savings on the electricity bill.

We don’t use anything like all the electricity generated in the summer, so if batteries are now cheaper and better I need to check that out.

Have been thinking about solar panels ourselves over last few months, we face directly south no trees causing any shade, so ideal. We were hoping that as part of process to move to more sustainable energy there would be grants available to offset some of the cost as there are with heat pumps, but nothing other than a cut in VAT. So if we went down this route we would have to bear the full cost ourselves.

We have insulated the house as much as possible cavity wall insulation on the extended part of the house, additional insulation in bathroom in the extension by using thermal panels rather than tiles.  The older part of the house has external insulation which had a remarkable effect on reducing our heating bills after it was installed in 2016, also put an end to condensation problems. We qualified for a 90% grant towards for the cost of the external insulation from a fund administered by local authority. Our loft has the recommended depth of insulation, all the windows double glazed and replaced the upvc front and back doors with composite doors, new boiler installed, all lights are Led, we use the eco functions on washing machine and dishwasher, not a lot else we can do indoors to reduce energy costs.

I am also disappointed to have missed all the the fun!    However, up here in the frozen north we are totally beyond excited - we have been promised a (drum roll) TWO DAY HEATWAVE.  😎😎😎

I think we do as well. Just need to look out for the Rock trolls in Norway next week. They can be nasty.🦹

I thought I wasn’t imagining it. This should prove interesting, but the mods look already to be on it.

What a very strange message board this is.

Harry is replying to a post of mine, quoted in his post but not replicated here, which appears to have been removed.  It was one word - “Certainly”

🤔

I’m really not that ‘bovvered’ but sometimes wonder why I bother?

I missed it all as well. I assume it was our friend who does award winning voluntary work. Weather in Norway looks a bit iffy, but hey it's a cruise and we have a drinks package.🤣

Silhouette was in Portland today. They need to get a move on. Oregon to Southampton overnight is a big ask. I can view a few of the P&O fleet tomorrow.

Spoils the old joke a bit.

Thanks

i meant to look to see who was about - plenty of red double decker shuttles.  I hope they enjoyed their day.  It’s the kind of port I like.  Prefer eg Cadiz, where you disembark & there you are, in town, but a 10 minute shuttle isn’t too bad, then you can just schlep about and do your tourist thing

I can’t believe I haven’t heard that one before! 😂😂😂

It’s a Billy Connell one liner, ancient but apt.

Enjoy the 2 days of heat (it will be cold and wet again soon enough 😀)

Enjoy a nice toffee apple martini. At least you have an ice bar to cuddle up to in the heatwave.

Have a great cruise.

Good morning everyone, and a very nice one it is too.

Frank and I are just waiting for the taxi to take us to the vaccination centre for our Spring booster. It will be the first time we've been out this year. I only hope it will give us the incentive to begin to venture out again.

I think the real Avril is  still out there somewhere and need to find her again.

Have a good day everyone and take care.x

Oh Avril, how well you put it.  The real me is still out there too and needing to be found again!  I had to go out the other day, in the car, and it felt really strange to be amongst other people.  Not much of a worry driving, thank goodness; I still enjoy that, but being in and around shops felt quite odd.  And people are so noisy!  (Not really, just used to quiet at home).

I find the noise and being around people uncomfortable too. I've always liked the peace and quiet anyway, but this dislike about being around people is new. I feel very antisocial  now and that is not like me at all.

Absolutely. I’m getting out and about a lot more and socialising outdoors with friends etc. But I feel almost claustrophobic if indoors with a lot of people (be it shops or restaurants etc….).

As an aside I’m thrilled that at 63, I will be offered another booster and flu jab in the autumn which just gives me a bit more confidence. I’ve managed to avoid Covid so far, but how long my luck will last is another matter.

Mrs Dunnster and I had successfully avoided any infection until we stepped off Iona last Saturday. The very first thing we did was test positive and we locked ourselves away. After 5 days we retested and remained positive so we continue with our hermit-like existence and not feeling at all well. We really enjoyed the cruise although the after effects have rendered the benefit received negligible. Not sure what status I am about getting a booster as am a mere child of 56 yo 👶

Still, the amount of free time I have available means I can spend time reading this forum!
