They want me to start  washing with chlorhexidine soap now around my knee. it's clear and so far is not turning my skin a different color. I just got back from taking my pre surgery covid test. Should come back negative.

What's kinda neat is that the surgeon has me on this automated texting service so i get instructions, tips and encouragement about twice a day. I must say I'm impressed with their thoroughness and attention to detail.

Wish you all the best and a very fast, painless recovery Greg.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers🙏.

Driveway update.  Owner came out and looked at issues after going back and forth on the phone.  He is going to fix lip at garage entrance.  The seam that is crumbling, he is calling surface scratch and it is normal to see some and that we are seeing so much because of the size of the driveway.  He acknowledges the damage at the bottom and will fix that in the spring.  We had planned to have the driveway seal coated in the spring and he is now doing that for free.

There is nothing that can be done now because of the weather but at least he has seen what it looks like now and if it gets worse, we will point it out in the spring.  I am still concerned about water getting into the house again, especially with another rainstorm coming tonight.  He suggested a few sandbags for now at the corner but we have bought a barrier called Quick Dam and also some Quick Dam bags.  We are going to put a ten foot barrier across the garage and reinforce with the bags.  This product soaks up the water and inflates causing a barrier to hold the water back.

I know this is not going to be the end of this but at least he is aware of our concerns and says he will deal with it.  He is trying to blame it on the new concrete and that the water came out of the seam but there is no evidence of that at all.  If it was coming up from somewhere, I would have seen it as I was wet vacuuming.

Glad to hear the owner of the paving business came out and is willing to correct their problems.   I do feel that he should have at least offered to put some sand bags down or purchase the quick dam flood bags instead of you.

Fingers and toes crossed you do not have any problems with the next rain storm.   🙏

As for seal coating the driveway, you may want to check into as I was told I should wait about 3 years from the time my new driveway was installed before applying a seal coat.    I really am not sure of why they suggested I wait but they did.       But then again if he is going to do for free, go for it!

I binge watched the entire Reacher series yesterday.

I agree re The Hunt For Red October.

Eric and I watched the first episode of Reacher yesterday and enjoyed.    Will definitely follow through with the other episodes.      I binged too much in the last 2 years and now trying to space out my shows.

Just took these. Wetness on cement was where I was standing when driveway guy was here . Raining a little now and water is flowing down driveway. No way of knowing what happened before. It just never happened before in the 20+ years we have lived here, so you start by looking at what changed. Driveway guy is trying to say it is the new cement at a seam. I am sure if I get my cement guy here, he will blame the driveway guy.  With another inch of water forecast, I just want it to stay dry inside.

Yeah, that asphalt is definitely high.  How old is your house?  The reason I ask is that the last twenty something years that I have worked in construction management, we have always put a lip in the concrete slab that is perpendicular right behind the garage door rails so that the garage door weatherstripping sits about an inch lower than the actual garage floor.  That way if water get blown under the garage door seal, it still can’t get past the lip into the garage itself.

I agree that asphalt is definitely too high.   I'm not an expert either but it is a shame those downspout hoses are there.    Couldn't they did and put pipe under ground to flow to exit at street instead of your driveway and making it icy in winter,

I guess that I am in the minority because I did not care for the film.I was looking forward to seeing it because I am a huge Lucille Ball fan,especially of her dramatic roles.My mother lived in Jamestown NY when she was a child as did Lucille Ball.My mother had red hair and was 4 years older .People believed they were sisters.

No you are not in the minority. I did not care for that film either but because of this...... I am crazy about the original Lucy and like there CANNOT be another Freddie Mercury, there will NEVER be another Lucy Ricardo. I cannot imagine anyone even acting like one. JMO and thought. I will give credit to Niole Kidman for her acting, she is an excellent actress, but I cannot see her as Lucy Lucy.

Who worked last driveway guy or the guy doing concrete garage flooring.

If the garage flooring guy he could have easily put a lip on it like mine so water runs away from garage.

@sgmn, @LucasLikesToCruise & all,

Fingers and toes crossed -- it seems that the crisis was averted, at least for the moment...

Saturday it looked even bleaker when I've tried to see the schedule for the next week -- it was blocked for all flights to Dubai. I tossed all the night and barely gathered myself in the morning, following the news.

On the bright side, we've passed the PCR test with flying colors, and it was not as terrible as I've thought (or may be the guy who administered it was a real pro).

On the dark side, my hubby kept "disappearing" from our reservation [Remember, they moved our seats several times, and the last time we were seated separated...]. I choose to upgrade us both to "premium economy", so as to seat together and only the 2 of us.

At least they are taking calls for flights inside the next 72 hours, and I was able to speak with a "real" person. They put him back, and after a few minutes, yes, you guessed right, he was doing the "disappearing act" again.

Luckily, I'm a genius 🤪  After so many "disappearing acts", I've come to the conclusion that, since he received a free ticket linked with a promotional new credit card, I'll have to charge his upgraded seat to his card instead of mine... and it worked!!! The problem was that my card passed muster, and it was rejected afterwards by the airline computer... It should have been nice if they've called to tell me instead of spending 2 days on this matter.

@Ozark_Kid - excellent news about Shelby.

@Sea Dog - I'll keep you in my thoughts on my way to Dubai 😘

@grapau27, @sgmn, @aussielozzie18 and @Norwich Cruiser -- my best wishes for HM The Queen. I was so happy seeing her smiling, even though my heart cringed a little... she seems so frail😢

@molly361 Ellen, enjoy your cruise🌺

@Luckynana - How is Jim?

@reallyitsmema -- hopefully, no leaking water in the next rainstorm.

@Ocean Boy -- thank you for the moving story about the dog and his owner.

and last, but not least -- @A&L_Ont - amazing photo and dinner too.

Apologies if I've forgot someone... I'm so tense...

Jim and I watched the Season finale of Ozark last night.  Holy cow!  Not what we were expecting!

We're still trying to figure out what the first 5 minutes of the first episode of the new season means.  Guess we'll need to wait for the other 7 episodes to drop.  I don't think they've started filming for that yet.  Ugh.

I never saw that .I will have to see if I can find it.

Looking forward to conversing with you after your successful surgery and recovery,Greg.

Thank you Lenny. It was on HBO. Not sure if it is still available. You will like since it's all set in NY during the 70's and featured Times Square when it had all the peep houses and how the porn industry got started.

That is exactly what we have.    We have a slight incline on our driveway and have never (knock on wood) had any water issues from that area.

I read an article that it’s filming is complete and should be released before May in order to be eligible for whatever award shows that they want to be considered for. I’m sure Greg @Sea Dog knows more about this than I do.

@dani negreanu  Dani , you are a genius and with your phenomenal memory you’ll remember this for a very long time.  Have a fantastic trip and be safe.

@Sea Dog wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.  My husband had me watch a knee replacement surgery video.  It isn’t my idea of entertainment but very informative.  I guess follow the instructions of your docs is the secret to doing well.  All the best to you.

We had four different trades here and they all agreed with a specific order.  Our contractor was here first and reframed the garage door and put the header across because there used to be a weird gap there.  He chipped out some of the concrete to do what he needed to do.  Concrete guy was second.  He put in 8 inches of 4000 lb cement with rebar.  He cut out part of the driveway to be able to build there frame for the concrete.  He had his guys leave the front part of the frame they built to protect the edge of the cement for when the driveway guy was here.  Contractor came back and installed Azek trim once cement was set.  Next was asphalt guy who met with both my DH and I about what we wanted done and how we needed the grade fixed as we had pooling at the top of the driveway due to settling.  Garage door opener company was last at their suggestion as they didn't want to install new eyes while other work was still in progress which turned out to be a good thing as one of the old eyes was damaged.  They also installed new waterproofing and gasket at bottom of door and adjusted the door tight to the new cement.

That was weird wasn't it, I wonder after all 14 episodes are done after all they have been through, the family ends up dieing in a car crash and makes all the things they have been through pretty pointless because they all die anyway and that is how it happens. That's how I would write it.

 I think the easiest and cleanest looking fix now would be to break up about 12 to 18 inches of the concrete where the concrete meets the driveway and put a lip on it so it's about 3/4 to an 1 inch higher then the   driveway.

Can't see hacking up that driveway at this point.
