lenquixote66 Posted July 31, 2022 #66459 Share Posted July 31, 2022 The only rollercoaster I was ever on was in an amusement park called Buddies.I googled it to find out if it was still open and much to my surprise I found out that it was never really Buddies even though that is what everyone called it.The name was actually Fairyland and it closed in 2002.

We used to go to Cedar Point when we lived in Ohio and our kids were younger. It's one of my favorite amusement parks. We'd stay at the Breakers Hotel out on the point that has its own separate park entrance, right by Top Thrill Dragster. You'd get early admittance thru that back gate as a hotel guest...kinda like Disney does. We rode Top Thrill Dragster 3 or 4 times with almost no wait the last time we were there. The line was well more than an hour long once they let everyone else in. I was talking to one of the ride operators and he told me that they need to "dial in" the Top Thrill Dragster each morning based on temperature, humidy, etc. They want just enough force at launch for the car to slowly coast over the top of the ride before heading straight down. Too much force and the car has too much speed and doesn't "hang" as much at the top. Too little force and the car doesn't make it all the way up and comes back down backwards. They've even had situations where the car had the perfect amount of speed to be perfectly balanced at the top, and get "stuck". Someone has to climb up and literally give it a push. 😁 So in essence, the Breakers guests were the guinea pigs each morning.
mo&fran Posted July 31, 2022 #66461 Share Posted July 31, 2022 We're are back from our 2 weeks on Allure. Our first cruise on July, and the vibe was certainly different. Huge family groups groups, several generations of family. Not a problem, just different. I don't know that we have ever been on this class with this many people. If you like crowds, the pol deck has it. But Central Park is nice and quiet at the same time. The only reason we took the cruise , it was a casino comp, the price was right. Lunch in WJ was a disappointment compared to the Feb and March cruises. Really no different offerings each day. I guess the food people figure these passengers are happy with burgers and hot dogs, so there is not much else. MTD was a lot different this time . Bak in March it was insane with the lines getting in. THis time, not at all. They have the dining room on level 4 open now, I bet the crowd in March would have been there, but that wasn't an option. DW developed some walking issues, so we stopped at the concierge to request wheel chair assistance for todays departure, so we were told to go to ON AIr and we would be taken care off. Could not have been more satisfied with the service provided.
Rare bobmacliberty Posted July 31, 2022 #66462 Share Posted July 31, 2022 I finally got around to a chore that I've been putting off. Organized a bunch of boxes and loose items into plastic crates in our garage. Looks much better now. We've also been told that cardboard boxes can attract wood roaches and other insects.

My High School senior skip day was at Cedar Point. 😆 The wooden rollercoaster was a big thing in the 70's. I still remember the 1st time riding the Top Thrill Dragster. The force you feel when it takes off and when you get to the top it looks like you are about to fly into the air. It's over so quickly. I remember years ago watching a special featuring the tallest, fastest rollercoasters. Cedar Point had 2 of the top 3. Not long after that I believe a place in Japan built one to beat them all then Cedar Point afterwards built the Top Thrill Dragster. I have heard there was one built in the states in the last few years to beat this one. OB, if you go, there is a beautiful Lighthouse not far from Cedar Point. I believe it's in Marblehead. You would get to do two favorite things!

Since the park was all enclosed, my parents would pay our entrance fee, give us our ride tickets and tell us where and what time to meet them for lunch. I have so many happy memories of our Summers spent there. Most memorable was of my parents on the parachute ride.

It just seems weird that my planner says I've been moved to Voyager out of Galveston on a 5 nighter Western Caribbean and not our original 7 night sailing out of Fort Lauderdale to the Eastern Caribbean on Adventure. Furthermore our October 21st cruise isn't on the website at all but the cruise the week before and after have been added. Pauline did a nice job setting them up. @Ocean Boy I don’t know if you saw it mentioned but Stevie Nicks is in concert Sept 28th at Xfinity Center in Mansfield. I know you’ve mentioned how much you like her. I’d be all over getting tickets for it but we’re committed to babysitting the grandsons. We had a busy weekend with two of our girls & our granddaughters visiting for the day and swimming. Yesterday we had friends come over for the day with their grandkids to swim. Today has been cleaning up from the entertaining. We also started talking about that January cruise - Jewel vs Harmony. I think we’re leaning towards Harmony. Even though it doesn’t go to Bonaire like Jewel does, we like the longer port day in Curaçao. Andy’s also more interested in the newer ship. Also narrowing down transportation & pre cruise hotel options. 7

In the TV news business we have read of people killed in a live truck that put it's mast up into power lines and tried to leave the truck. They were electrocuted to death. We had to take a safety course every year. We've thought about having a generator installed. It would be a good investment. I did have a whole house power surge protector installed at the main breaker which gives me peace of mind.
