Rare h20skibum Posted July 5, 2023 #97701 Share Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) Today has been a jam packed day. Started with bike riding this morning. Then it was time to finally hitch up the boat for this season’s first voyage. But first, a stop for subs. This place has the largest ones. The boys were ready to go. Some leftover sub rolls for the wildlife. It was a beautiful, sunny day on the lake. After my granddaughter’s gymnastic class, she and my daughter joined us. Granddaughter had the first tube ride of the season. Now, the boat is put away, and we are enjoying a Doobie Brothers tribute band. Rare Lionesss Posted July 5, 2023 #97703 Share Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) @Ozark_Kid Your harvest is amazing. When did you plant? We have to wait till the potential for frost is done. So we plant on Memorial Day weekend. We are just staring to get itty bitty green tomatoes, peppers; and zucchini and squash looks like a massive flower bouquet. Green beans should be ready to pick in a week. Hopefully it will be an abundant year. But, wanted you to know— You are in my prayers. I have a 900 AM appointment with the nuclear Dr, and see what his plan for the radiation treatment is. Then at 1100 AM is the oncologist, I assume the plan for the chemo. He had said before this would take 6 weeks, once a week. Then would insert an IV every time, rather than a port. Side effects should just be some tiredness and maybe some nausea, and there should not be any hair loss. The only issue I have been having happens when I am eating, food gets stuck in the back of my throat, so I drink something when that happens and everything is fine. Sending our thoughts and prayers for your treatment plan to be a success with minimal side effects. 🙏🦋 2

Last year at this time I had harvested 28. Looks like in another week the cherry tomatoes will be ready to pick. Nice!! I should start harvesting tomatoes, peppers and zucchini this weekend. Eggplant and cucumbers are a tad slower, hopefully ready by mid July. We are picking a couple dozen peaches every couple of days. I have to gather all my peach recipes and get to work on them this weekend. Edited July 6, 2023 by Sunshine3601

On each of five consecutive days during the celebration of HOPE Week, the Yankees shine a spotlight on a different individual, family or organization worthy of recognition and support. Each day is designed so honorees can share their inspirational stories with Yankees players, fans and the media, while being surprised with the day of their dreams. Yesterday, July 4th, was the 84th anniversary of Lou Gehrig “Luckiest Man in the World” speech. Fittingly, the Yankees decided to honor Sarah Langs, a 30 year old MLB reporter and researcher, who last year revealed that she has ALS. Sarah and 6 other woman from “Her ALS Story” – a support group of woman under 35 with ALS that seeks to raise awareness – were honored last night at the Stadium and also to raise money for research via “Project ALS”. All my pictures from last night came out extremely blurry so instead I’ll post a link to the video tribute that was played on the big screen. In it, Sarah along with the other woman and Yankee players, recite Gehrig famous speech. More on her story. https://www.yesnetwork.com/video/players-of-the-game-sarah-langs?t=top-videos And finally: https://www.mlb.com/news/yanks-honor-sarah-langs-on-anniversary-of-lou-gehrig-s-speech Edit: My blurry pictures With tears, I thank you for posting this incredible story.

I think it's just to hot here. The Kohlrabi did OK, it taste good. Slow start has been my beans, zucchini and cucumbers but are now taking off, I direct sowed. Potatoes are now showing up. I don't mean to cause tears but I lost 6 bulbs of garlic, only 170 survived. My peppers are exploding. I am trying to be patient for them to turn their proper color. I have Jimmy Nardello, Orange Bell Pepper and Jalapeños. I have a few Watermelon doing good growing vertical. All the tomatoes and it looks like in about a week the Cherry tomatoes will blow up. I have been making pizza sauce with the tomatoes. When I make it I use a chamber vacuum to seal enough for a pizza. I so far have enough for 21 pizzas! Thanks for the prayers Sue. BTW, my brother lives not to far from you. He sent this picture of how his onions are doing.

I was thinking it was some of your first to harvest but I may be remembering wrong.

Always amazed at how much they spend on fireworks. Just out of curiosity, are all kinds of fireworks legal to buy in PA? We have a few municipalities nearby that allow the purchase and use of Safe & Sane fireworks. Sparklers, cones and that sort of thing. Aerials, Roman candles, mortars and firecrackers and M-80's and M-100's are illegal in the whole state. But millions of people here seem to find them to purchase. 😏 What are people allowed to buy there? ☺️ Just curious about the differences. And there was a 10-acre fire at our nearby lake last evening. Kohlrabi is very popular here. We have the green version of it. DH is eating it raw, or baking it in the oven with a sprinkle of olive oil on it. Usually when preparing antipasti, along with other legumes, like zucchini, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, etc. 6

In PA consumers can purchase Class C fireworks which includes bottles rockets, Roman candles, firecrackers, aerials and mortars (up to a certain size). Pa law states they cannot be launched between 10 pm to 10 am on any day except July 2, 3 and 4th and Dec 31st they can be used up until 1 am. Unfortunately, there are far too many people who don't follow the law on how and where they can be launched. 2

Besides our upcoming cruise in August my wings maybe clipped in regards to gambling in casino. Now mind you I have set a safe daily budget and usually end up in casino 5 evenings after shows. But Alaska sailings kinda tucker me out and late nights are a rarity. Susie needs a comforter, pillow , blankie and spouse more than a slot machine to rest up. So early to bed and early to rise. And besides. New driveway, patio, landscaping and our new RV I am sure I will take my daily casino cash allotment down for this sailing (😜). I plan on doing a live thread, we shall see. Be safe.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer during the pandemic. It was hard but I’ve learned you can do hard things. For me the worst part was going by myself to my appointments and into the hospital for surgery by myself. MD Anderson wouldn’t allow my DH to be with me. So it took courage just to go in each time. I still get teary when I think about it. You can do this! Take one appointment, one treatment at a time. Let others care for you. Rest, pray, read encouraging things. Look forward to your cruise! 24
