If There's an Effective C19 vaccine, will Cruise Lines Require It

LOL -- I had to read the article.  At first I thought that's a rip off but then realized it's for every $100 in coins you deposit you get a $5 bonus.  Sounds great -- only the trip to Wisconsin would blow all my profit. 🤣

Risk vs Rewards

If I were CEO of a cruiseline, vaccine would be a requirement to board my ships. No waivers or exceptions.

Sure, I would lose a % of my customers. Then again, I've got zero customers right now. I'm sure my marketing team can overcome the few customers we lose with the vaccine requirement.

You might even gain additional customers because you require a vaccine!

reminds me of the time Kramer and Newman drove a truckload of cans to Michigan for the 10 cent deposit return.

Minor Side Effects' - Not necessarily.  If you read the side effects of most meds and vaccines, they all seem to have some major side effects, including up to and including death.  I for one have found over the years, i have developed issues with a number of medications that are now on my health charts, one of which landed me in the ER.  So, with that, even if there is a vaccine, I don't plan on getting it, at least not for some time to come.  I would need to see longer trials.  And even then will be nervous if I were to get it.  Unlike some meds, you can't 'stop taking' a vaccine if you have a reaction.

Certainly death is a major side effect, but if was any more than an extremely slight risk , it would not have been approved.  Most drugs are tested with a relatively small group 2 to 3,000.  The issue is that the drug is for a specific illness or issue.  Say a new high blood pressure med.  People with HBP are usually on a med and not many want to try an experimental drug, so the pool of test subjects is small.  So out of 3,000, if 5 get a headache, it is listed.  If one dies from a heart attack even if it is not proven the drug was the cause, it is listed.  Everything is listed, that is why the list is so long.

On the other hand, the goal is to have over 30,000 test the vaccine (10 times normal),  so much better chances of discovering any adverse side effects.  Also, most drugs that have long term side effects, are not one or 2 dose drugs.  They are daily or weekly medicines where the long term effect is due to continued use and not one time use.   Not sure I can remember a one dose drug that had long term effects.

So, larger test group, one or 2 doses and based on technology that has been in use for other vaccines.  IMO - this will be safer than most drugs that have gone thru the 6 year process.  I am lucky, I take no medications.  I do take the flu vaccine and got the shingles vaccine.   I would have no issue with a Covid vaccine.

I have been to Africa on two occasions for work and I had to be on malaria medication at least three days before arriving and at least ten days after, plus they randomly tested to make sure you were on the medication. This is why I think hydroxychloroquine is a good in between preventative. It doesn’t cure but might make symptoms less severe. Like the malaria medication, it isn’t a cure and doesn’t guarantee you will not get COVID.

They also don’t tell you about NIH studies that were cancellled, one was giving hydroxychloroquine to patients who already had severe symptoms and the other study didn’t have enough people to signup (mild symptoms) because nobody wanted to get a placebo.

I would hope that RC would require proof that you have received a covid vaccine or at least sign off that you won't sue RC if you contract it while cruising. I hate shots, but am looking forward to this one! In fact, I would love to be one of the volunteers who are testing the vaccines. To think of how wonderful this vaccine will help the WORLD is so wonderful...and we will no longer have to feel like we are locked up, living in fear, or feel like we are living in a socialist/communist country!

I saw where the NIH cancelled two studies of hydroxychloroquine because of its ineffectiveness, but I did not see where they cancelled any studies because of the reason you gave.  Where did you see this?

Yes , NIH cancelled the hydroxychloroquine...probably because they were pressured by the libs. There were many testimonials of people who were given it and had fabulous results! By the way, my sister (a nurse) has been on this drug for over 30 years (for RA) and has never been told that it could cause heart problems. From what the scientists have said, If you HAVE an existing heart problem, this drug may not be good for you.

So one person says the study was cancelled because it "didn’t have enough people to signup (mild symptoms) because nobody wanted to get a placebo."  You said the study was cancelled "probably because they were pressured by the libs."  The NIH says the study was cancelled because hydroxychloroquine is ineffective.  OK then. 😁

if a side effect occurs during a trial, even if it is not thought to be related to the trial it must be included on the label. Thus the reason for extensive side effect listings.

trials for oncology products tend to be small, products for common chronic conditions  such as high blood pressure can be very large in the  10s of thousands. Sometimes with different trials with different criteria taking place.

Too bad it does not apply to New Jersey, as I have a ton of coins.  I remember some many years ago, pennies were the hot items due to the copper content.

Read it and weep because the doctors/scientists in charge are trying to destroy us.

Read it for yourself. Sorry to break the news to you but there are some who don’t want a cheap drug fix.

The article doesn't support anybodies view.

"nobody wanted to get a placebo"  - Absolutely not stated anywhere.  They couldn't get people to do the trial.

"pressured by libs" - no evidence in the article of that at all.  Not mentioned.

"hydroxychlorogquine is ineffective" - the study didn't have enough evidence to state that.  Other studies have stated it.

Where did it say nobody wanted to get a placebo?  I didn't see that part, and that is what you had stated.  Can you let us know where it states that?  I don't think so.

And why are you sorry to tell me that "there are some who don't want a cheap drug fix"?  I didn't mention anything about that.  Why do you feel the need to apologize to me about it?

Um, it is being tested right now.  It also is using data and research from SARs from several years back.  I do think that countries will require it so I guess you won't cruise.  I will get the vaccine.   I think some need to do some actual research and quit regurgitating unsubstantiated crap they've heard.  I'll be in line as soon as it's available. I get the flu shot every year and I got the shingles shot this past year.  Even though I had a reaction to both shingles shots, it was nothing compared to the shingles.

Curious , what was your reaction to shingles.  i had severe muscle pain for days to the point I could barely walk.

Fatigue, low grade temp, slight body aches.  Nothing major, but very common.  Enough I left work early after the first one and stayed home from work after the second one.  One day basically of symptoms, but totally nothing compared to the shingles themselves.  I know people who have had to retire after having them.  At the very least it's usually at least a couple of weeks of pain.

Only 20 people signed up. If you were sick and told you had a good chance of getting sugar pills would you? Were they even telling people? How many people declined (If you wanted to be scientific you would release those numbers). The Henry Ford Medical Center’s study found that it reduced deaths by 50% but looked at numbers after the fact. So science wants to have a controlled study by giving sick people sugar pills? I can see what’s going on and more of us should too.

The cruise lines will be bankrupt if they have to wait for a vaccine before they could sail.

I don't think they have a choice because there is legitimately no preventative way to keep the virus off the ship.

Agree.  No vaccine will most likely mean no cruising.

They will be cruising in Germany with ships up to 2700 passengers.  2 of the lines are part of RCCL

Ltd.

one ship on 7/24 and another on 7/31.

several other carnival owned ships to follow.

Mid size ships approved meaning 2500+ passenger capacity. Max 5 day cruises to nowhere and Passengers must be from one of 3 Germany approved countries Including Germany.

that is without a vaccine yet.  Not sure if they require testing though.
