Another cut--Lido cakes on Glory

Just got off Spirit today. I noticed the same thing. I like their German chocolate cake but they typically have too much frosting. With the normal layered cake I could remove most of the frosting. With the new version the cake itself was so thin I couldn't separate the frosting which was disappointing. My husband got a piece of the red velvet cake but it was still the layer cake. He was served a ridiculously oversized piece but  was mostly tasteless frosting so it was wasted.  I think Carnival is trying to find the right balance while minimizing waste.

Kind of unrelated but on the positive side, we enjoyed several of the new offerings in the main dining room. It was especially pleasant to see different entree sized salad offerings at dinner. Many times if I eat lunch in the buffet I'm not super hungry so those entree salads were a welcome addition.

I just noticed the picture of the German chocolate cake. The sheet cake on Spirit did not look the same.  It was about the same height but had 3-4 layers to it more like what you would see as a petit-four. The posted picture looks a lot better than what I got.

Frankly on my last cruise I liked the sheet cakes on the dinner buffet better than the layer cakes they served for lunch, which is sad because the layer cakes used to be a highlight of the included food on Carnival.

Ohh no. The humanity...not sheet cakes.

Ohh no. The humanity...not twice daily room cleanings.

Ohh no. The humanity...not rooms ready at embarkation.

Ohh no. The humanity...not bacon served daily on the buffet.

Ohh no. The humanity...not fresh fries at Guy's.

Ohh no. The humanity...not the petite filet at sea day brunch.

Ohh no. The humanity...not 24/7 pizza and soft serve.

Ohh no. The humanity...not more than 2 entrees at dinner.

Ohh no. The humanity...not the full sea day brunch menu.

Exactly, none of those changes (and they are simply changes, made to make the cruise line as efficient as possible without unduly raising fares) severely impacts the overall cruise experience. We had just as a good of a time on Glory this past April as we did on Pride in 2012.

Bingo, but please do not interrupt the agenda bashing….it is the holidays!

I like the small servings. I always asked to give me a thin slice anyway. My typical buffet strategy is to sample first to see what l like. I think there was a lot of wast previously, seeing people with several large servings of the large cakes.

ps not happy with omelette cut back. Just a bad move!

But why only cakes and cookies? Are there no pastries like eclairs, tompousse, fruit tarts, chocolate-mousses, puddings, bavarois ??!!

They do have some tarts etc at the coffee shop. Not included, they are extra.

Sometimes they serve mousse and pudding and jello at the sweet spot on the buffet.

But generally, it's just cakes and cookies.
